It's a few days before Christmas, 2021. Just was eating lunch in a restaurant playing nothing but Christmas music made in the last 5 years. It was all just so banal and every song sounded like a teenager singing along to a karaoake machine. Then you listen to this 56-year-old recording and you hear the excellence. Quality never goes out of style.
Especially to those who appreciate it.

It's a few days before Thanksgiving 2023, and I've this playing in the background while I'm crocheting Christmas gifts. I'm 60, and most of my family is gone or very far away and I find myself more and more missing these simpler, kinder times. To anyone coming here this year, may you have a holiday season filled with love, laughter, and things that make your heart smile. May God bless you and yours. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas.

12-24-22 8:30 p.m. When I think of Christmas, I always think of going home to the folk's place, where the kids would meet with their current families, and we'd discuss our past Christmases and all the changes since them. Daddy would have his music piped through all four speakers in the corner of our living room, he'd carry in a huge log for the large fireplace that would last all day, and we'd open presents in the morning. Daddy would get a call and have to go to the hospital for an emergency, but he'd be back soon, and we'd all enjoy the whole day with each other. Mother had a great dinner planned and we'd all sit around the long dining room table with the extra leaves put in it so it seated about 18 of us and then after dinner, we'd all sing Christmas songs together while one of us played the piano, another an instrument. The children would be in the play room with their new presents. Warm memories, but kind of sad since most of them are gone now. I really miss those times when things were so much easier and things seemed so simple, not complex like today.
I'm enjoying this Christmas Eve listening to this beautiful music. Thanks for posting it and Merry Christmas to all of you who might be listening too!

Ahhhh the memories of yesteryear and those joyful Christmas holidays when everything seemed so much simpler and nicer. I don't care what anyone says, the 60s and 70s were really good years. At least for me and I treasure the memories of them.

Oh how I miss those Christmases of long ago when everything seemed so much more carefree, life was more simple, people were kinder and more gentle and the holidays had a magical glow. I feel so incredibly blessed to have such wonderful memories from an era gone by. The older I get the more I treasure and cherish them. Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas to one and all.

Christmas in the 60s was just so beautiful. But the majority of people in the USA believed in God then. Now this country's hedonism and egocentricity has permeated and poisoned every last vestige of goodness and innocence.. Even in those days, they were admonishing people to keep Christ in Christmas, and, for the most part, we did. Even Snoopy and the Red Baron were able to bury the hatchet for one day.
Amen, and thank God these memories are with us who lived to enjoy those times.
I grew up listening to these records. 100% pure nostalgia for a time that I can now hardly believe was real.
Brings back priceless memories of arriving home from grade school those last few days before Christmas to find mom baking, cleaning, wrapping or otherwise preparing for the big day. Music like this would always be playing on the radio's "easy listening" stations that she'd have playing in the background as she went about her labors of love.

Growing up in Cleveland Ohio on a snowy night at Christmas time my dad played these I requested them my favorite and I still to this day I think it's the most beautiful Christmas album . The Longine symphonette. on the classical station we listen to in car. On our way to grandma's house in fort Wayne Ind. My mother had a Longinne wrist watch and I still have it. I'm 76 years old now and this music makes me feel like I'm back in my grandma's cozy bedding ...🤗 I'm wishing you all a merry Christmas 🎄🩷 it's not too early😊

Love these songs. Being a baby boomer these were the songs I grew up on. Listening to this album brings back wonderful memories of the 50's and 60's.
Reminded me of those Andy Williams specials. Mom and Dad in there chairs us kids on the rug glued to the screen.
It was always my Dad's job to supply music during the Holidays and he had quite a collection. Whether we were wrapping, cooking, or decorating, there was a steady stream of merry music to lead us happily toward the goal of having the family and friends over on Christmas Day. Christmas Day included neighbors and even a few strays who had no where to go. This album was always the first one he put on and I can still hear my Mom singing off key from the kitchen.
I love these vintage vinyl Christmas albums. In our modern, disturbed world, I'm reminded of the true meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas everybody🎄☃️

Same for me in NJ... and a beautiful Christmas Tree and Nativity Scene in the yard was MOST desirable. How nasty, hateful and discriminatory against anything good and morally right our society has become. Listening to this and feeling/remembering grade school times erases all that for two hours, how nice.

In 1964 I was 4. My father and mother had this Fireside Christmas record album and our family would listen to these wonderful Fireside Christmas recordings every year during each Christmas season! This LITERALLY brings me back to my childhood! I thought I would never hear these Fireside Christmas songs again!🙂

In February of 64 I was just a few days old. This music captures the fantastic melodies and songs of yesteryear!
These albums bring back such great Christmas memories from my childhood. It wasn't a great childhood, and we didn't have much, but every year at Christmas, our family listened to these exact same albums and, at least for the time we listened, everything just seemed better. Just listening to this music, I can smell all the smells from back during those Christmases from decades ago; the pine needles, tinsel, scented candles, cookies baking, everything. I loved listening to these albums while looking out the window and seeing all the snow on the ground and cars driving by.
There is little that is better in American musical culture than the choral arranging and performing in the mid-20th century.

Wow! I actually purchased this in the early 1970's! I gave it to my mom. After her death, don't know what happened to this set. This brings back so many wonderful memories of times past; especially Christmases past.

It’s January 21, 2024 and I am still listening to this most days as I will for all the year. It just makes me happy. Being reminded of those simpler and kinder days does my heart good all year long.
It was a tradition in our family to begin our Christmas baking on Thanksgiving weekend, and we played the entire stack of "Christmas Around the Fireside" LPs. I raised our daughter to bake by this beautiful celebration of Christmas music. It is a treasure.
This reminds me of when I was little and on Christmas Eve the family would be over and I would have to go to bed to wait for Santa and hearing the family and trying to sneak out so I wouldn’t miss out on the fun

I grew up in the 50's and these were the songs we loved then and now. Bing Crosby, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, Andy Williams EVen David Bowie singing duet with Bing Crosby.

When I hear people sadly many young folks say There Is No GOD, its a Myth, I can tell you I get dang mad but in private I will shed many tears and have heartache.
WHY would they say such things
and sadly we see and hear this daily from Biden a supposedly devout catholic/christian (if he is then I must be an atheist) and politicians of all colors, creeds.
OK maybe its all the stuff on TV say that the gods are just ancient aliens.
OK maybe so, but the ? still stands, who made them.
There had to be a Supreme Being who made all of the universes and planets
I do not believe we are alone that there are other beings hopefully a lot smarter than us, and who knows maybe we are all related.

I doubt that anyone has not at one time denied there was GOD that HE did not do this or that for us, HE did not honor our requests and prayers.
He did not save a loved one, an animal friend, we did not get the perfect job and all.
But somehow we get over it and go back to GOD and beg HIS forgiveness for ever shouting at HIM, cursing HIM, Denying HIM our love and loyalty.
Yet somehow GOD comes to us and touches our shoulder and embraces us to say I understand my child, I forgive you.

Simple 3 Words from a FATHER to HIS children of all ages.
Even now as many of us enter the winter of our lives, we do come closer to HIM which I say is great for all of us.
But it is the younger people who are so misled by the elites, politicians and all of these thugs, that hate America and GOD.
One must wonder if HE looks at what is going on and utters what is wrong with these people? Are they ill, look at all that I have created and given to them and still they show hatred to all who do not think l was here before time and will be here long afterwards.
I know several non believers, atheists, but they ask me Tom, when you die and there is nothing no God, no heaven, no Rainbow bridge, what will you say then.
My reply is still the same 50 yrs+
What have I lost in my lifetime, a few minutes, hours a week praying to God, going and celebrating the Mass, sharing GOD to others, reading the Good Book, doing my best to follow HIS commandments.
SO I lost some time, big deal.
BUT
You see I believe in GOD, that HE is with us every moment of our lives. That He has the angels looking over us, and if blessed He loans us His angles without wings, our dogs, cats and other pets.
I know in my time of crisis of faith, health, loss of work, facing ruin, HE has never left me.
HE has opened more doors for me, when doors were closed so saying Thank You GOD, Father, ABBA, is the right and only thing I can do.
But if there is GOD, which I do believe with my whole heart and soul, then I truly have lost nothing but have gained so much.
But if I go to my death denying there is GOD, like you my friend who say there is No God, and you die, and you suddenly find yourself upstairs in front of GOD, what will you say to HIM?

But hey only HE knows what you are worthy of.
Getting back to the lost little lamb, can you hear the little one crying for aide, and not hearing anyone coming to his/her rescue how upset he/she is being cold, all alone, hungry and worse danger.
All the lamb hears is the growls of the wolves who are famished and this lil lamb will be a feast.
But suddenly they grow quiet and slink away, for they see the Good Shepherd, Our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST, calling to the lil lamb.
I am here my lil one, come, come to me.
And the lamb will cry out until HE stands over the Lamb and looking down, comforts the lil lamb, and frees the lamb from the vines that have entrapped him/her.
And then lifting the lil Lamb looking him in the face, and saying All is Well, I am here now do not be afraid, you are safe.
The lamb licks HIM to say Thank You, and HE carries the lamb around HIS neck on HIS shoulders back to the flock who welcome the lil one home again and who will keep a better eye on the lil lamb so he/she does not stray again.
Folks we are like the sheep we love our Shepherd and HE loves us all.
HE feeds us not with food and drink, but by HIS Holy Words given to us and in the Good Book.
As a good shephered HE will defend us and will lay down HIS life to save us (as HE did more than 2000 years ago on Golgotha).
And though HE may not be with us in body, HIS Spirit is always with us until the end of time.
As we enter the start of Advent and the wonderful greatest Gift GOD the Father has ever given to any human being, the gift of HIS only Begotten Son, Our Lord and Saviour JESUS Christ.
For only through HIS birth and HIS short life on this earth and HIS sacrifice of HIS life could we be joined back to GOD OUR Father.
May you find peace and humility in the words of Our Lord and really look inside of yourselves and ask am I following My LORD’s words and actions.
If not, see what you can do to get back on track to follow HIM.
I ask HIS blessings on you all and your loved ones and animal friends and know how much I appreciate each of you for being part of my life.

This was re-released on CD in 2001. The CD was released by Yesteryear Music (they were not around long) via "Warner Special Products". Warner acquired the rights to the Longines Symphonette catalog, but now calls them the "Symphonette Society" as the Longines company connection disappeared long ago. The 2 CD set shows up on Ebay from time to time. This is about as "traditional" as it gets for Christmas Music.

OMG - thank you for uploading this! I have this exact album set in storage. My parents bought it back in the day when it was first published and we played these records every year. It's one of my favorite albums and it has some of the best music for Christmas. Thanks again!

It’s so wonderful to hear Lullay, lulllay. I was born 1955. My Mother also played the Longines albums. Christmas was so loving, warm. Children today are robbed of Christ, and his story/teachings.
Also born in 1955. I don’t think Christmas is anything like it used to be. Not as much money was spent. Not as much focus on gifts. Like you said, Christ is no longer the reason for the season for most people.
But let’s not curse the darkness, rather, light a candle. I know many families that put Christ in the center of Christmas. Our church has been steadily growing - even during the COVID pandemic - and there are many, many ways to celebrate and share Jesus’ love, especially at Christmas.
This makes me think about the true Spirit of Christmas… I almost forgot, I will be listening to this a lot this Christmas,thank you!❤

The season is fast approaching, with Halloween very nearly over, thoughts turn to the Festive Season. Outdoor lights will start appearing, stores begin to decorate, TV commercials start, Black Friday sales. I’ve been searching for excellent Christmas music this year, and this recording is the best one I’ve found. So much of what is done now can be banal or schmaltzy. This is wonderful! Lovely voices, with a great selection of beloved carols and hymns. Thank you so much for sharing this treasure. I’m making a note of this so I will be able to play it every year going forward.

My older sister bought this album set in 1964 and now I have it. I usually play it on a record player but mine is dead…need a new one. But when I was young I’d set the record player up between the kitchen and dining room and play this one and Ray Coniff’s Christmas album over and over and over. My parents were extremely patient and loved Christmas as well. Excellently done and no “makin’ it your own version”…just sung as they were written. Beautiful! 🎄🎁

I like it. Good music. Can imagine listening to this while sitting in a nicely decorated living room or shopping in a department store in the mid 60s, trying to not think about the heavy problems facing the country at that time.
Every year, singers tend to add on their own twist/novelty and after a few years it makes the song stale and you forgot how it originally sounded. This was a breath of fresh air. Many thanks and looking forward to Christmas 2022!

So glad I found this. My dad used to buy albums from the Longines back in the 60's and I remember listening to this one every year. I kept some of his albums to recycle. This is one that I still have, just no way to play it. So many memories.

This was an album my mother bought and played on our first stereo record player and it still sounds great today one of the best Christmas album you’ll ever listen to. I know she ordered through the mail from whom I don’t know.
This is a good one. The Longines Symphonette did their own thing and were a little different from other productions. They certainly got the attention of the "Beautiful Music" crowd and beyond. Glad you enjoy!

As with so many others here, this has been my absolute favorite Christmas album since I was tiny. I am only 35, but when I listen to this it makes me so nostalgic for a time many years ago, a time that my spirit belongs to. Not for the time of today, or even pre 2020, but long ago. My parents had this on a cassette tape that we just discovered is now warped, so I was thrilled to find this treasure here that has brought so much true comfort and joy to my family.
