    Just got my Pro a week ago. Lovin it. Just using it to play local video files. Using Kodi player for that. Like the layout and functionality of the Kodi player. Installed Projectivy Launcher. Great launcher. Very clean and functional. Gets rid of the Shield home screen advertisements. For streaming, I use my LG C8.

    Finally, I have found someone that speaks about connecting Nvidia Shield to AVR. I have Firestick 4k and have significant issues with HDCP over HDMI and need to restart my AVR when Firestick wakes up from sleep. Also, it can also passthrough Dolby formats while Shield has all major formats covered. You helped me a lot with final decision.

    Thank you so much for the unbiased review. I am now absolutely certain that I want a Shield Pro. My current gear is modest, yet decent - 75" TCL 6 series TV, Harmon Kardon 5.1 receiver, and respectable center/front/rears/powered sub. The TV's native Roku system is ok, but it does have a tendency to stutter occasionally, seemingly dependent on the app it's running. The TV really seems to shine when all it has to do is to be a monitor. I can't wait to demote it to that role.

      AI upscaling will only be available as an option for media that is lower than 4K resolution, but yes every app I've used thus far... Even though most streams are in 4k now and AI upscaling will not enable on Shield with media in 4K resolution. 4K media it will say "not active, not required" in the AI upscaler setting. Also if you want lossless/master audio, such as Dolby TRUEHD(on supported audio receivers obviously) Dolby Audio Processing setting should be toggled OFF, and Match Audio Content Resolution Over HDMI toggled ON in The Shield audio settings! The purpose of the Dolby Audio Processing setting is to downscale Dolby Digital Plus audio streams to regular Dolby Digital, on devices that don't support audio streams in Dolby Digital Plus. I assume you don't want to add unnecessary processing and compression to your TRUEHD audio by having the shield process the audio of your media instead your AV receiver/soundbar doing the heavy lifting (which is what should occur if you have a decent enough sound system). There are some reports of TrueHD with Atmos still working with Dolby Audio Processing turned on in Shield settings, but I notice a significant difference between when it's toggled on and off, and I'm playing a movie with True HD audio on a very nice audio system

    I'm still using the original 2015 Shield Pro and 16GB models and with the 16GB model expanded with larger SD Cards, which unfortunately the card slot was removed in later models. It's nice that I was able to integrate the ShieldTVs into my home automation system and also able to side-load other Android apps to the devices.

    • @Plague_Rat778
      @Plague_Rat778 Před 2 měsíci

      I think the major difference is price for performance, and size. A equally priced tower is basically impossible. And likely isn't as powerful, it would also be bigger. A similar priced mini-pc is undoubtedly not as powerful.

    1. Triangular remote is a bit stupid.
    2. Power converter should have had an IEC port, allowing flexibility when connecting to the power outlet.

  • @RickPaquin
    @RickPaquin Před 5 měsíci

    I purchased one.
    1. Memory expands easier and much GREATER for loading WAY MORE apps than other streamers, which typically run out of space very quickly.
    2. Comes with PLEX server, if you like PLEX, but will also run EMBY and other popular video servers well.
    3. Better sound capability.
    4. Works just like a computer if you hook up a mouse, keyboard or trackpad.
    5. Mounts other computer drives or NAS storage devices you might want to access to support PLEX, EMBY, etc.
    6. Seems to be very popular with gamers (I'm not one)
    But seriously, unless you need those features, Google Chromecast will run major apps like Prime, Netflix and others just as well for a LOT less in price, BUT, and this is a huge BUT, they are all severely limited in the number of apps you can load on them.
    The Shield can load a TON of applications in comparison!! I DO use many of the other unique features of the Shield, so I'm happy with paying extra for it, but I would NEVER suggest it to someone who just wants to run a few streaming apps. Google Chromecast works very well if that's all you need.

    What's the advantage of using this product over the built in streaming apps on a smart TV?

    • @fivelevels
      @fivelevels  Před rokem +2

      I explained it with more details in the video.
      All built-in apps like Netflix and Disney plus only stream Dolby Digital Plus for Dolby Atmos and it is a compressed lossy format. I only got the shield for the HDMI passthrough functionalities to be able to play lossless audio tracks from my movies. My Sony TV OS was fine with everything except not being able to play lossless audio from PLEX and KODI and sometimes being slow and buggy. However, I don't regret buying the Shield because I like that it's fast, supports 5.1 audio on CZcams and love the AI upscaler. Smart TV cannot pass through high quality audio tracks from 4k movie rips like Dolby Atmos with True HD and DTS X audio tracks. I only recommend the Shield if you have a high end sound system in a home theater.

      Hi there and you're welcome, Yes sir, it will a 100% do you the things you mentioned in your comment. Shield is the ultimate 4K media player in the market and after reading your comment, I have personally tested the use cases that you mentioned in your comment a few minutes ago. I plugged in my external WD HDD to the USB port of the shied and I tested many different movies with different soundtracks like Atmos with TrueHD, DTS X, DTS MASTER AUDIO MA and HDR as well as Dolby Vision. The best app that worked well in the playback was PLEX and you just need to know how to setup a Plex media server on Shield and allowing it to scan your media from the external HDD, another thing is knowing how to setup audio pass through in the Shield settings. I did also test the playback on other apps like VLC player and X-plore but I do not recommend them because they do not support HDR and Dolby Vision. However, plex did support all these audio and video formats including HDR10 and Dolby Vision and it was very good and efficient.
      I hope this helps you and if you're interested in buying an Nvidia Shield please use the links in the video description as it will help support the channel.

      @@milanmali9013 No worries I'm happy to help and that's why I created this channel. Now to answer your question: shield has an Android TV Operating System so it's not going to give you the access to folders and play things natively like other open source Android versions, which is why you need third party apps to read the folders or use apps like plex to scan your media and allow you to play them. Keep in mind that not all media players apps support audio Pass-through which is why I only recommended Plex after conducting the tests. or you can also try installing KODI as the setup of KODI might be more simple for you than plex.

    I dont recommend this device for anything more than video streaming. If you want a emulation machine or gaming machine you came to the wrong place.

    • @fivelevels
      @fivelevels  Před rokem

      To be honest I only got it for the HDMI passthrough functionalities to be able to play lossless audio tracks from my movies. My Sony TV OS was fine with everything except not being able to play lossless audio from PLEX and KODI and sometimes being slow and buggy. However, I don't regret buying the Shield because I like that it's fast, supports 5.1 audio on CZcams and love the AI upscaler.

    • @PriestRipper

      Shield has best performance on the market. What could be better option for emulation? I really wonder since about to buy one.

    • @BoguZk
      @BoguZk Před rokem

      @@PriestRipper Shield is a technology from 2019 and is highly unreliable in terms of software. During my experience with it I witnessed ton of annoying bugs and turn offs. I wasnt able to play 2 player games because my two dual shocks 4 were coupling to the point where either player lost control over a character. I didnt get GeForce now to work - not even once. There is no file browser, no internet browser, there are problems with apps connecting to external memory. When it comes to emulation the only thing that worked well most of the time was dreamcast emu. For other emulators usually things just didnt work or gamepads had problems with connection. I tested the same setup on my phone Huawei p30 pro and didnt have those issues - even had vibrations on my gamepads and could use their touchpads. My replacement for this crap will be the Khadas Edge2 - not certified for netflix or other vod but absolute beast if it comes to power. And its not a tv box - its a sbc with pure android 12 (not the crappy android tv os). Good luck with your shield, lol xD
