I have that exact 4 bolt gm crate engine. I added a Performer cam and intake and 600 holley. For a mild 350 it runs smooth as glass, I drive it to the track and foot brake it, and It runs the highway quite well. This video is my next step, some mild boost should do the trick. I say mild cause I want it to last for a while, and I like pump gas usage. I could push it to the max, but broke don't do me any good. LS is great stuff, but GEN1 forever! GREAT VIDEO.

to me 800HP is 800 HP i agree the LS stuff is more advanced but give me a procharged 383 any day in a old school gen 1 with good breathing and ill take it every time over the LS
if i want an LS ill buy an LS based car. C5s are fairly inexpensive....

Easy reliable power. I kept mine 9.5/1 and run regular gas. I do not race, just for fun. It is in a 1969 Chevy stretch van. It surprises people. Just a good motor combination carefully done. I also use 1.7/1 roller rockers. They work.
I just went through a problem with the motor popping back. Finally, I took out the ohm meter and started checking plug wires. I found two bad ones. They were no more than a year old and 8.0 mm. Suddenly, with new wires it runs like a bat out of hell. Check your wires even if they are new, save yourself a lot of time. I have electronic ignition with one of those monster Accell yellow coils. It has a huge spark. I wonder if this caused the wires to fail. Does anyone know?

@@gordocarbo I am talking at the 8min mark, where he had the best heads money can buy and cam.. N/A with just that cam and heads, it should have been making 450HP/TQ+ as compared to a similar setup 350CI SBC with a set of GM Fastburns combined with a little 218/228 LT4 Hotcam makes 430hp/430tq with less compression infact at 9.6:1 vs his 10:1!!
Maybe the intake was smothering it too much? I mean man that supercharger setup, 10lb of boost with a holley stealthram efi intake FI tunes, he could make 750HP+ all day long...
