- It's a lot of information, 59 signs and 5 sentences, but it's important information. If you are in the healthcare industry we wanted to provide you with the basics in ASL to connect with Deaf patients. You provide so much and I am so excited to give something back to you. If you're not in healthcare, these are still great signs to know and learn.
This video is broken up into 2 parts Jobs and Locations and *Medical Signs*. Use the navigation below or chapter markers to jump to those sections or any of the 59 signs quickly. This is too much information to learn it all in one watch, so watch again, jump to signs that you need more practice with or even slow the video down. If you have questions about anything ask away in the comments and we'll do our best to respond.
Let us know in the comments where in healthcare you work.

I am a physician in turkey, I wanted to learn asl during faculty and have watched some of your videos. I couldnt find the time to continue to learn after started to work but I remember something. The other day a hoh patient came to clinic with their interpreter. They were easier to do a clinical exam than any other patient cause they understand what you want just by your gestures and they are quite careful. Than I thanked them in asl and they were so happy, they taught me the right version of sign int their signing system, it was slightly different because I work in turkey and dont know turkish sign language but asl. She became so happy and thanked me back for trying to learn signing, ask her interpreter to show me a way for learning turkish sign language and it was just on little thank you sign but it turned out wholesome.
LOVE this!!!!
Always helpful to know the basics. As a CPhT I can agree with you about the importance of accuracy.
This is so helpful. I would love a video on Optical. I’m an optometric tech, and having some basics relating to Optometry and glasses would really come in handy! :)
I needed this. 5 plus years in the hospital, this is a great video
Thank you for all you have done over the past 5 years! You're a hero.
Awesome video! Everyone in the medical field should know these basics. Thank you for posting!
Keep up the good work! 😊
My kids and I love your videos! They are so easy to use and so well explained! Thank you for teaching so well! We are loving learning this gorgeous language
I work in healthcare and I was looking for a video like this! Thank you!
As a medical instructor this is a great video, thank you so much!
So many great signs today. Thank you, and happy new year!
my asl class has a quiz on these today!! crazy that you just uploaded it
Hope you got a 💯
From a healthcare worker to you, thank you.
And thank YOU!
Thank you. This was very enlightening.
Loved it, thank u so much! 🤟
I’m a pharmacy technician and this may come in handy for some of our patients who are hearing impaired.
Would you consider doing a video for laboratory (different specimen collections) professionals and billing(asking for payment/balances are due)? Thank you!
Great vids super helpful
Thank you!! 🫶🏼
Thanks for sharing the videos ☺️ this videos are very helpful and easy to learn
Thank you!
Happy 2024 everyone 🎉 My mom was a registered nurse, so I think she would have used these signs! I appreciate your time and skill, Rathbones!
Thank you!!
I am a yoga teacher for students with disabilities, and I would love to know some mental health and wellness signs! “ I’m doing the best that I can”, “I am (k)enough”, “breathe/inhale/exhale”, I’m also a creator, and would love to collaborate on something down the line- found your page because I am a former Disney cast member going back to the parks and stumbled across your Disney signing🤟🏼💕👏🏼🦾 (I happen to be an amputee!) thank you for the amazing content that you create🙏🏼
Hi Meredith, is there a sign for X-ray or would I just finger spell it? Thanks!
Hi meridith. Is the " r x" sign still used for pharmacies. Signed R with thumb out on non dom hand and "x" on dom. Hand bounce on thumb?
This was a great video. Don't forget your Time, topic, comment order for sentencing. 😉 (9' o clock cafeteria close 😝😁😊)
Thanks ❤❤❤ so much
I learned a lot from this video. I was wondering if you could show a sign language video of sexual assault for law enforcement and victims that goes through this phase. Love You Meredith.
Hello, Good day! How to sign the word "caregiver"
Would the sign for "allergy" be for nasal allergies specifically, like pollen or animal dandruff? Because not all allergies relate to the nose. What if tis a food allergy, like with nuts? Does ASL distinguish between allergies and intolerances?
This is use for allergy and allergic. From there you can use non manuals and descriptors to show the severity of the allergy.
What's the sign for dentist?
Thank you for this! Is there a new sign for covid? Or do we simply spell it?
There is a sign for covid. www.handspeak.com/word/8166/
Thanks for sharing. Sign for patient? discharge?
The sign for Patient is similar to hospital but use the letter P and make the sign for Red Cross
Can you do a MLK signs video? That would be amazing!❤

dear can we meet online?
I am a Deaf Medical Advocate. I’m trying to understand why your introduction is not in ASL? You are talking and explaining totally relying on closed captions to relay your introduction and some of your ASL teachings. Huge NO in our Deaf efucation. And wouldn’t it be better to have a certified deaf interpreter teaching the signs? After all, we would be the experts in the language! 😖
I think there are levels to this. Just like regular school. I wouldn’t understand if she started out how you wanted. If you want more advance teachings, you have to go to those videos like Dr Bill Vicars. I needed her before I started his videos. You’re not her audience at this time. Thank you Mrs Meredith
@@yntg38 I am definitely her audience at ALL TIMES. your comment is an audist reply and this should be both in asl and cc. You have a very insulting attitude, DO BETTER1
Thank you!! 🫶
