My dad was a Firefighter back when I was a kid in the 80´s.. I could tell he had a bad run when he got back home...Just the look on his face told it all..This was in Kentucky and a country fire department...Sometimes they ran out water and had to watch a house burn..But the worst were the car accidents ..were someone was killed. I lost him in 2007..He was good kindhearted man.
God Bless your dad... Firefighters see hell on earth...🙏🏻❤️
@@corinnepmorrison1854 Thank you. 💖
I served in the fire service in California, USA from 1995 to 2018; my career ended due to injury. This documentary exhibits that fire fighting and fire fighters are universal, the world over. Thank you for sharing these stories and this magnificent old fire station.
The thing about being a firefighter you can run into another from any country and immediately you have a bond because you know exactly what they have gone through and they you.
Blue light family. 💙
shame it isnt turned in to a museum
My Dad and all his siblings were volunteer firefighters when they were young so I grew up hearing their stories. Mostly the funny ones, but some of the grim ones too. Seeing a big, beautiful firehouse like this one was incredible. If those walls could talk…
Marcus Licinius Crassus fire brigade:
"We didn't start the fire
It was always burning, since the world's been turning
We didn't start the fire
No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it"
It's absolutely amazing that they're not going to destroy it 🌹
yes please preserve this piece of history? don’t let big bucks from developers greed take over. god bless those fitrfighters!ty.
There is something comforting about Michael Portillo's narration - to me it signals sunday evening TV time... a nice cup of tea and maybe a cheeky biscuit?
My Grandpa was a firefighter in the Bronx. I still have his manual with all his notes. :)
you have to be kidding, luxury apartments?! We need to preserve history and not even dare touch it. this building being example of that failing to an epic scale...
What happened to a firefighter's family living in the compound, if the firefighter died fighting a fire?
I was wondering that too.
But the losses with firemen during war was on both sides. I now from a book about the firefighters of Hamburg, where they were out during the firestorm over Hamburg and there was a bomb which ripped the chiefs head off during that. They still continued. War has no winners.
Sadly, war has winners: Those, who earn the big money from it and those, whos ego gets a push. If there were no winners, maybe we would have given up on mankinds most popluar form of populationcontrole a long time ago?
Thank you a beautiful history lesson!!
Fascinating! I love your channel! Thanks for always putting out such great historical content.
If they have to make it into something that makes money, how about apartments that the people who used to work there could have actually afforded?
I agree with your sentiment. I understand that companies have to make money, but I wish they also had goals that consider the common good.

Take a wild guess
Thanks.
I hope that Beautiful Wartime Bedford Fire Tender has been saved and restored.
This title is opposite of the subject matter. Way way opposite
as an American, Jesus that's a Huge fire station!! I thought buildings over there especially from that time period were smaller...
35:04 Yay! Cute german shepherd!
Now this is cool...
What you call Braves we call Suspenders 😎
Appliances ? Britain is weird
It's another term for example in the U.S we say "Fire Apparatus". Not weird just different terminology.
@Zak's Hobbies (New Channel) who the f says fire apparatus? lol In Canada we call it a fire truck...
@@TheDanAge Obviously people with a bigger vocabulary than you.
Manchester Firemen are very similar to the NY Firefighters as far as how busy they are and aggressive they attack fires
Is this the biggest fire house in the world?
"The brink of WW3" what? Yeah, someone didn't catch that during the intro.
7:03, that's actually not true, here I'll Tom Scott explain it, czcams.com/video/Wif1EAgEQKI/video.html ,
Tldr: they wouldn't let uninsured buildings burn down because the fire might spread to insured buildings.
It's a crime this is being turned into apartments
Why do you brits try extra hard to overhype your documentaries like you are discovering the actual city of Atlantis or some shit. It's so fake, along with that fake announcer accent.
