My dad was a Firefighter back when I was a kid in the 80´s.. I could tell he had a bad run when he got back home...Just the look on his face told it all..This was in Kentucky and a country fire department...Sometimes they ran out water and had to watch a house burn..But the worst were the car accidents ..were someone was killed. I lost him in 2007..He was good kindhearted man.

I served in the fire service in California, USA from 1995 to 2018; my career ended due to injury. This documentary exhibits that fire fighting and fire fighters are universal, the world over. Thank you for sharing these stories and this magnificent old fire station.

The thing about being a firefighter you can run into another from any country and immediately you have a bond because you know exactly what they have gone through and they you.

My Dad and all his siblings were volunteer firefighters when they were young so I grew up hearing their stories. Mostly the funny ones, but some of the grim ones too. Seeing a big, beautiful firehouse like this one was incredible. If those walls could talk…

    Marcus Licinius Crassus fire brigade:
    "We didn't start the fire
It was always burning, since the world's been turning
    We didn't start the fire
No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it"

There is something comforting about Michael Portillo's narration - to me it signals sunday evening TV time... a nice cup of tea and maybe a cheeky biscuit?

What happened to a firefighter's family living in the compound, if the firefighter died fighting a fire?

But the losses with firemen during war was on both sides. I now from a book about the firefighters of Hamburg, where they were out during the firestorm over Hamburg and there was a bomb which ripped the chiefs head off during that. They still continued. War has no winners.

Sadly, war has winners: Those, who earn the big money from it and those, whos ego gets a push. If there were no winners, maybe we would have given up on mankinds most popluar form of populationcontrole a long time ago?

If they have to make it into something that makes money, how about apartments that the people who used to work there could have actually afforded?

Why do you brits try extra hard to overhype your documentaries like you are discovering the actual city of Atlantis or some shit. It's so fake, along with that fake announcer accent.
