I fell in love with Whitehorse from the documentaries of Glenn Gould. I am so glad it seems to be doing well. This is just the thing he envisioned, being able to work from home or in a small business, and being able to live in an easy distance to see some beautiful nature.

Probably this is the best place for the life of calm and good-natured people. In my childhood, when I read Jack London everything looked much tougher)

In Whitehorse the northern culture of the residents is a way more laid back lifestyle compared to a city down south. However still got to deal with the rat race of life commuting to and from work, the rush hour traffic jams, and the shopping, which can be hectic and busy as usual.

And to think it was once a little village of about 300 people more or less. Years ago Dawson City was the big town in the Yukon. If only I were young. Fantastic scenery and way of life.

Danny, Danny, Danny, wow. You're looking good man. The North has been kind to you. Mayor! Good job sir. You have changed very much over the years...and it's nice to see you settle in to a pillar of the community role. Good to see you again....Don Howie. Whitehorse is looking good as usual. It's really not a hard sell, people just need to see it first hand to appreciate what a special place she is. You forgot to mention that there are 13lb rainbow trout ready to be caught with in 10 minutes of main street, from one of the many stocked lakes around Whitehorse.
Cheers buddy....see you on the flip side.

I forgot to mention that the population of Whitehorse has nearly doubled from 2008, just over 20,000 residents to almost 40,000 residents today in 2023.

I had the opportunity, fortune and pleasure of living in this beautiful wilderness City of Whitehorse, Yukon that I called home for 14 years, from April 7th, 2008 to August 3rd, 2022. Today I now reside in Calgary, Alberta, my original hometown that I returned to, where I grew up. I can honestly say, I miss Whitehorse already and I plan to revisit in the future. If you have the love affair for Canada's north, then this wilderness city is for you if you can handle the harsh, cold brutal winters. Whitehorse is great for raising a family, it has all the amenities of a city in southern Canada, shopping, restaurants and fast food, great schools, recreational and cultural facilities. Annual events include the Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Festival and the Yukon Quest dog sled race in the late winter season, the Yukon River Canoe padding race in the summer. In Whitehorse the seasons are extreme, summer averages from May 15th to October 15th, hottest temperature I experienced was 30 degrees Celsius and the days are long, June around the solstice, 24hrs daylight and 19hrs of sunshine each day. Winter averages from October 15th to May 15th, coldest temperature I experienced was -46 degrees Celsius and that's before a possible -70 windchill and the days are short, December around the solstice, 19hrs darkness each day and a few hrs of low sun only that you hardly see, plus lots of snow that won't melt untill April. Whitehorse has a crazy summer tourist season, very busy, this place is considered the Banff of the north, tourists from everywhere even from Germany with flights on Condor directly from Frankfurt. Whitehorse has a small but modern International Airport, with daily flights on Air North to and from Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Dawson and Old Crow, Yukon. Whitehorse has many perks, and I have lots of positive things to say about this place, Whitehorse even has a Walmart, Canadian Tire and Superstore, it has the Yukon College and Arts centre, Qwalin Dun first nation cultural centre where the Whitehorse Public Library is, the Canada Games centre with swimming pools and ice hockey arenas, etc. The City also has 2 golf courses, ball diamonds including the Pepsi Softball centre and plenty of skiing trails. The only negative things I can say about Whitehorse is due to the growing population the road infrastructure is not designed to handle the traffic volumes, rush hour can be very bad and jammed up at times. Housing is an issue, mortgage and rental markets are very tough and expensive due to low supply and high demand compared to a city down south. Whitehorse lacks the night life entertainment as well, only a few bars and pubs. Snow removal on the streets during the winter is very slow and frustrating at times but eventually gets done, therefore 4×4 vehicles popular and a must up here. During the summer, mosquitoes are very bad, especially away from the city areas into the wilderness areas. Also like any city, Whitehorse also has high crime rates, that's about it for the negatives. Whitehorse is called the wilderness city for a good reason, has plenty of green spaces with hundreds of km of hiking trials, most residential suburbs have wilderness right near your backyard. Wildlife is plenty, red foxes, bobcats, lynx, coyotes, wolves, and bears that do come in the city. Whitehorse also has birds of prey, bald eagles, falcons and hawks, scavengers also, gulls, magpies and year round ravens. Watch out for those pesky ravens, do not leave your groceries unattended in the back of a pickup truck at any time, if you do, ravens will go town and have a develoring heyday. Whitehorse is also known as the dog capital of Canada, people love their pets and animals up here. Overall if you choose to either move to Whitehorse or visit as a tourist, you will absolutely love this place and will not be disappointed.

Hopefully education is available in the English language as well. English is still the #1 language for doing business. Looks like a beautiful city with huge federal investment unlike cities in the south such as Sydney NS which are completely lacking in federal investment. Sad for Sydney NS good for Whitehorse Yukon.
