  • With DC Comics releasing their first on-going comic book with the "Dawn of DC" banner since Joshua Williamson's Superman, there was some anticipation for this book, although it had been prepared for within the pages of DC Comics Nightwing title, also written by Tom Taylor. Will the fans be left disappointed with Tom Taylor's first issue of "Titans" in the Dawn of DC series, or is it just the "doom and gloom" of the modern comic reader to see fire when there is actually nothing except a so-so story? I read the comic and give my unbiased opinions on the first issue of DC Comics Titians by Tom Taylor.

    I totally agree with your assessment with Titans #1. First of all the ocean is doing fine. It was also shocking to see Nightwing tell Peacmaker he isn’t working with the United States government but rather concentrating on global matters as if America isn’t top priority. I also noticed lately with DC writers they very little regard to all police officers and push a hate agenda against them. I don’t mind the bad cop angle every now and then but most police officers put their lives at risk.

      @Joseph Barbera - you have to know the oceans are in a terrible state and the US is but one egotistical nation on the face of the Earth.

    The Titans in the 80's was the Best selling Comic book - even outselling X-Men. The storylines and ART by the Legendary George Perez was excellent. Judas Contract, Who is Donna Troy, Starfire Sage, And Raven Sage etc - was just brilliant. Fast forward, originally, DC seemingly didn't have issues with the Titans powerset - and them being teenagers we expected them not to be as "skilled" as the Adults. But in the 90's Donna became Troia (but she wasn't as powerful as Diana) Nightwing studied Martials with Donna and Kory, but still couldn't best Bruce. Kory should be able to not beat Superman, but she can change the emissions of her starbolts to RED solar energy damaging him. Same with Beast Boy (he should be able to turn into an animal from Krypton - therefore being able to give Superman a run for his money) but writers never explored this - they at least could have suggested BB was not strong enough to handle that much power. Donna should be much more powerful, but no. They were holding them back and people are tired of the inconsistency - IMO

      Thanks for putting in my ear the 80's Teen Titans series, I'm always looking for a series that highlights and/or defines a series, thanks for the recommend!

      @@comicnovice New Teen Titans (vol 1)/ Tales of the Teen Titans, New Teen Titans(vol 2)/ New Titans are worth checking out for classic era Titans content.

    I've re-read some of the classic New Teen Titans run recently and it too had a touch of progressive politics thrown in, so I'm not sure why there's an issue with that here. Sure, super-heroes could fix a climate crisis, but that they don't in either Marvel or DC is down to decisions made well above the level of the writer of one book. I do think it's a mistake for them not to and then have to deal with villains who either want to stop the heroes fixing things or villains wanting to undo all the progress made in cleaning the world up. There are plenty of billionaire super-heroes to put in the financial clout and more than enough prodigious geniuses to figure out the technology to build whole utopias.

      People are employing selective amnesia where that is concerned. DC comics has used political, cultural, social subject matter sense the 60's when I took over the collecting from my older brothers. There's nothing new under the sun accept the people complaining, pretending it never happened before.

    What exactly is political about Garth having his own section of the world to care for just like Batman in Gotham and Superman in Metropolis? What's the political commentary you're seeing that I'm not?

    • @comicnovice
      @comicnovice  Před rokem +2

      That's a fair question and point you make. Perhaps the 24 hour news cycle has got me seeing things in places where there isn't anything. I just read it as a climate change reference, as there really wasn't any additional explanation by Garth. Additionally, Taylor has had that as a theme in his books with Son of Kal-El and Nightwing, so perhaps that is what I read into it. If these comments lead into a new Aquaman series, and there is some unsettling things happening beneath the surface, awesome, and my bad for rushing to judgement.

      @@comicnovice I see where you're coming from but I do agree that it's a stretch. I don't see politics in comics as something that's always bad. Especially when it's not heavy handed. It clearly isn't here because we're discussing it. Anyways I think the comic was great and the only real negative is some of the dialogue and the caption box alluding to a comic that isn't out yet. I think you should give it another chance. I think it's entirely possible you're writing it off because of things Tom Taylor wrote in the past. Anyways great video.

      @@austinmeghu Thanks for the feed back, I do appreciate it very much! You've given me a lot to think about, and I've always felt that I owe a comic at least the benefit of the doubt through the first "trade" amount of issues, as a means of determining what the quality or story is like, before issuing the sentence of "horrible" or "garbage," so I thank you for your comments and replies!

    This is the most laughable review ever. You guys shouldn't even bother reading comics. You want to be your right wing fathers. It's clear The Flash isn't dead. It's clear the person Tempest is working with will revolve into a story. It's very simple. Don't like it. Don't read it. Who are You?!!

    I bought New Teen Titans from when it first came out waaayyy back when. Titans is my favorite comic book of all time. I've stopped buying comics out of disgust with the incompetence of the creators and editorial staff today. I do, however, love Nicola Scott's artwork. I think she's the perfect artist to draw a Titans book.
    But I know I'll be disappointed again. I trust Waid to not write a story but to do a preachy mess filled with modern day fads. It's all he really does anymore, I don't think he can write comics anymore.
    It saddens me to see that American comics have basically died. No, let me correct that...they've committed suicide.

    I will say that it did feel preachy with how it was written at times but I got to this after I read Beast Planet and will say the whole environment angle they go for sort of makes sense and is understandable with what the main bad guy is trying to do. But the while Tempest talking about the ocean scene still felt too much like the writer lecturering me. The main reason I really like reading it is that it explored Beast Boys powers and capabilities and since he is my favourite I stuck around.
