I just come back from Armenia, and this song was played to me by my armenian friend. He told me that whenever his grandfather heard this song he had tears in his eyes. Beautiful instrument and even more beautiful song. Armenia will always be in my heart. Greetings from Croatia!!!
i respect, love & learn from all cultures, ethnicities, arts, music & teachings...the pain i feel for all some days is immense, the hope i carry for all everyday is deep, & the love for all inclusive grows bigger always...
Thank you brother! This kind of music enters your veins and makes you tremble. It tells the story of Anatolia - it's beauty and tragedy. If only we all lived in peace side by side as brotherly neighbours.
@gjazi I am originally from Moscow but Armenian. Thank you for the kind words !!! It's so great to read such a nice words !!! We love Croatia !!! Such a lovely place !!!
Hello, I was so happy and touched by your comment! I am a Russian , to me Armenians are like brothers and I feel deep love for a Turkish person. I feel bonded with both of the cultures. Çok güzel! :D Спасибо! After I've read some very hatefull comments of Turks and Armens towards each other it made me sad... Thanks for posting this wonderful comment :D
im 104 years old im using my grandsons account to say this is what we listened to when the genoside my mom had to hide me in dirt it was my sadness that is this song
It is just AMAZING the way that Armenian Duduk sounds like .. It just an old instrument backe to 95-55 b.c when I the sound of it I feel like I'm going back in the time Beautiful
well, gladiator started it, and since then all of the big hollywood movies that can relate to it in some way used it too... Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven, Chronicles of Narnia, ... you get the idea im surprised LOTR dint use it.
Unbelievable...i don't think there is other woodwind instrument that can produce such a -so emotional!!!- sound....I am looking forward to learn this amazing instrument!!!!Any suggestions for a starter?I already play pro level clarinet, and Soprano sax!
@eyesofpegasus I hope you realise Mr Gasparyan is displaying how we, the Armenians feel. No other nation is able to play on our instrument, the duduk or the zurna, as Armenians, as him. Because that sweet music represent our hurt. Ps: he will return to turkey whenever The Armenian Genocide is recognized by ur government. and also one thing with political issues you mean The Armenian Genocide?! That isn't a political issue, that's a humanitarium issue.
Does anyone here know how to play the duduk? For example, while playing it such as in this song, there is always the hummm of the tonic key in the background (in this case, an A flat or G# constantly humming behind the haunting melody). Kind of like a bagpipe, where you constantly hear a B flat humming in the background (or whatever key it's in). But how does a duduk maintain that hum and be able to make a melody at the same time? It really touches the soul.
Wow, if I was born there my last name would be "Davidian"! Haha, I wouldn't like that too much in America because of the Branch Davidian wacko in Waco, Texas; I totally forgot that dude's name!
@MarineM1 My friend if you come Turkey you can listen to deeply painful songs with very sad Turkish instruments such as baglama. And these instruments and songs are not less painful compared to Gasparyan. We do not race our pains here. That would be an idiot approach. I do not recognize your so called jenocide assertion as many members of my families were killed by Armenians during WW I. You lost the war and named your defeat genocide. You killed thousands of innocents and got its answer.

haq raji bo. Zaf zaf rınd bi...
It's to create an exotic/ancient/sorrowful sound. Rome was a bit far from Armenia, but hey, I thought the music went well with Gladiator.
türküm ama ermenileri çok seviyorum

yes it is incredibly hard, it will literally take years to master
@movsisyan14
you should listen to "Erkan Ogur" with Djivan Gasparyan
wonderful! ... is it a duduk that he is playing here? Or is it another instrument?
ooh ok i didn't know that sorry :) i thought that they are trying to still our music too ahaha ( thats seems kinda funy but i am sorry ) ))

al kevorkian this is 2 man playing . one is keping the background the other playing the melody.
what I said, was meant for eyesofpegasus
read before you write an answer.. he just wrote, that it reminds him to turkish melodie, not that it IS a turkish melodie.. -_-
is it hard to play?
Only this white suit doesn't look good on him...I would recommend some veil...something more spiritual... The rest is cool!
it's so fucking shame to think about shity politic while being near beauty as is Gasparyan's music!
