Davinci is the king, and after the latest update 18.1 its insane.
I'm loving it! First time not renewing Adobe in yrs and not regretting it.
Yahoo ! Can't wait I am jumping in , just starting
Great video ! Subbed ! Exactly the info I am looking for . Thank You , Thank You !
When PREMIERE disappoints you, Let Davinci Resolve your problem !
Well done pun.
I edit for a living (using premiere, because clients expect it). I work primarily as a broadcast colorist and all of the projects I’ve worked on I round trip to DaVinci for color grading. I just started actually using the editing portion of DaVinci and it’s really satisfying.
You can also change the keyboard shortcuts to the premiere shortcuts you are probably used to using.
That probably is the best way to describe edting in resolve..."satisfying" The first thing I did was change keyboard layout to premieres and then I programmed the macros on my logi 2s mouse for quick cuts. I usually use one button on my mouse to quick save and I realized resolve saves automatically so now I have another button to program. Again...you nailed it when you said "satisfying" 👌
i'm a new video editor who is wanting to start earning money from this skill, may i know if clients always expect you to use premiere or can you satisfy clients with davinci reslove
Happy to have you in the resolve community! 😃
I love Davinci Resolve but still find myself opening up FCP X because of so many years using it.
I just need to totally commit to using Resolve for a few weeks and know I’ll never look back.
Great content. Keep it up.
I hear you haha my cousin uses FCPX and I use Resolve both absolutely great but it’s something about Resolve that got me hooked and the color grading is AWESOME!
Very entertaining and informative video. Really enjoyed the way you explained in a view of relationship. You convinced me 100%. Buying DaVinci right now. Wish you both a day which will leave you with many special memories that you will treasure forever and ever…🎉
Thanks. I'm switching. Used the free version for a recent project to grade log footage. I was amazed at how much better the result looked. One of the main reasons I hear about people not switching is the word about having to edit past projects. Here's an escape trajectory I've used with other subscription softwares ...
1 Cancel your subscription
2 Resubscribe when ever you need to use it for a past project
3 Cancel right after so you don't forget (subscription is good until end of the month period)
4 Edit the client's project
5 Deliver the edit
6 Go back to Resolve
You can work in the subscription costs into your charges to your client. Obviously this works best if you're solo.
Also, isn't there another subscription you have to pay to use Pr as a team?
That's smart! So fare I haven't had to access old projects. Yes, I belive teams cost monthly for everyone in teams. Resolve I think is just $5mo for clout.
@@JaredHoyman I think that's the real truth for most of us solo production companies. I rarely have to go back to old projects. The times I have, it's been something relatively simple that I can splice into or remove from the original footage.
@@jaybillups2063 I agree! It made me confident to dump pc for apple in the next month too.
@@JaredHoyman Ha, I did the same thing. Recently bought the studio and Mac book airs to replace the other laptops in the household.
@@JaredHoyman cloud costs 5 bucks a month. But you can use your own private server then there is no cost to using Davinci cloud.
5 bucks to help pay for data management is an extremely reasonable ask. You can also sync with Dropbox.
Not to mention they're coming out with a feature called Presentations which will allow people to virtually meet within resolve without using zoom or discord.
All this to say Black magic is the goat. I love how every approach they take to a service they think of every consumer.
Need cloud storage? Sure 5 bucks.
Have your own server? No problem
Primarily use Dropbox? No problem
Like thanks man. That's super helpful.
I'll probably be trying this out soon, very concise and informative video.
I have been using Premiere since 1995. I thought CS6( 2012 ) was great. I got CS2019, but I hated doing stuff in their other programs( Audition; After Effects; Illustrator; Encore ), then having to bring that work back into PPro - what a PAIN. I mean the CS2019 whole suite I got was $1650. Then they went to 'cloud' .. at what .. $49mo. ? I loved your simple, easy-to-understand explanation of D R. I subscribed to your channel. I'm ready to learn. You're a good teacher. You're patient. I like that. Looking forward to viewing all your knowledge and learning about D R and how I can use it for my video projects.
I find myself sharing pretty much the same situation. However the one factor that is keeping me from switching 100% to DaVinci resolve is not the price but instead the fact that premiere is what my team edits on. We do a lot of pr file sharing with projects so everything needs to be interchangeable within the team.
That is big deterrent when others don't want to switch and unfortunately that is why I I have been doing 100% of my edits over the last several months. If you can convince your team that the switch is easy that would be half the battle. Premiere short keys are in resolve which makes the transition easy.
@@JaredHoyman Highly recommend people just learn the Resolve hotkeys. It's a pain in the ass for a few jobs and then it just makes sense.
@@artgarfunkelsgingerfro2886 I created quick macros on my mx master 3s mouse.
I've been using Premiere for 5 years and recently switched to Resolve. I absolutely love Resolve. I still have the free version, but will be taking the plunge into the studio version soon! I'm so happy to have switched over.
Me too! The work flow is so much easier.
@@JaredHoyman 100% plus the community seems so much more helpful when it comes to presets and tutorials. Some really awesome people who make it super easy to switch over.
Thanks dude, you swayed me enough to try it. I found Prem Pro a bit clunky and a bit like wading through mud using sometimes trying to put stuff together fast. It may well be my poor skill knowledge of it though too
I was just shown DaVinci and the way you described this video, it makes me learn more
I am looking forward to your future videos. I just purchased some subscriptions to stock footage sites, music sites, and have purchased many many assets like sound packs and such. I'm ready to begin my cinematic film arc. I have such a passion. Though, I'm a noob with the software. I've been using VSDC Video Editor as it's free (it's so bad, literally so bad) but I've been comfortable with it. But it's time to upgrade and advance now. 😂
I really hope Da Vinci Resolve is better then Premier... I just can't quite get used to Premier. I don't think it's an intellectual barrier of learning software either. Its all just muscle memory at some point, however, I hate working out my editor muscles with it. Thanks for your review of the cost analysis, and some features mentioned. I'm gonna see your newer videos. Subbed!
Can you tell me if I can use Davinci-Studio on my PC and my laptop if I buy Davinci-Studio once? Or only on one device? And is the purchased version of Davinci forever? Or is that a license for a few years ?
License is forever. You can have it on desktop and laptop at once, but only one can be activated at a time. So you just activate as you swap in-between.
As a quasi pro-consumer I can't wait for the upcoming videos. I originally purchased my Adobe subscription for a project and kept it around for far too long. Adobe is convenient because there are so many tutorials, but I would love to be able to cancel my Adobe subscription!
Thank you for commenting. I'm a creature of habit and just like you I kept to what I know. My Adobe subscription ends in December and I have gone all in with DaVinci Resolve so I will ve confident when I don't renew Adobe. Stay tuned!
i would be interested in seeing some simple workflow and export comparisons. cool video anyway.
Thanks!
Thanks! Congratulations for free yourself from Pr. I just bought the Davinci Studio two weeks ago. Feel the same and sometimes when something is not familiar in Davinvi, kind miss Pr. 😅
FCPX is also a brilliant all-in-one. Very simple to use for colour grading and editing plus, for effects, has a host of plug-ins and fantastic motion effects available from 3rd party sources. To me, Premier Pro always seemed over-complicated for what to does.
FCPX is one of the reasons I would buy a Mac for the first time. The other reason is the new M1 Max chips that work well with Davinci Resolve and out perform the RTX 3080 cards. Premiere pro is overcomplicated, but editors like Resolve and FCPX have such a simple but briliant GUI and layout.
@@JaredHoyman You are correct. I have MacMini M1 maxed out specs and M1 MacBook and they perform very well in FCPX.
Well dang, that's a hell of a pitch, definitely gonna give it a try! Been using Adobe products since 2011
I like some things the Adobe suite offers, I’m only using it because it’s the required software for my classes. If I had my choice I’d be using Resolve. I like that everything is all in one program. I want to edit audio, tab over to fair light. It’s all there. Plus I own my copy of the software.
Again I’m only using Adobe cause my instructor says it’s the industry standard 🤷🏾♂️
Great video👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks you! I think the industry standard will change in the near future. Premiere is nice but I find Reslove more intuitive.
I used Premiere for couple of years then switch to resove sense 2018 and I've never been happier with editing .. Resolve is really amaamazing .. I even use Fusion Davinci for my social media Design which means I completely quit using Adobe .. Thanks for this video ..
I'm new to DaVinci too, and eager to learn from someone who is also learning, given your background with Adobe. I'm interested to see your offer
/ Thank u for your suggestion and opinion ❤❤ love from Nepal 🇳🇵
Great vid mate. I dont have money right now to spend even 20 dollars a month so going with resolve, I already had some XP with resolve but this seals for long term, for now. Thanks!
Thanks for the funny video. I just a beginner and have not used any video editor. I’m watching vids to see which one to start with including FCPX. please continue the reviews between the two.
I will probably pick up the series on editing first part of December. Thank you for watching.
Hey! you know how in Premiere Pro you can change the kleyframe to hold, beizer, etc? how do you do that in Davinci?? I cant figure it out. I have to use multiple keyframes.
If I’m understanding your question you will go to speed change under video and hit the button that looks like a snowflake. It’s easier than premiere.
Hi I'm an experienced photographer but just trying to get up to speed with learning video. My Sony camera kit potentially takes great video, I just have to learn how to get the best. So I'm a nube too. I thought that Davinci made a lot more commercial sense than a full all apps Adobe license. Tried the free and just bought a Davinci Quick Edit console so as to get a nominally 'free' bundled Studio license. In effect it's really a Studio license with 'budget' cut page editor. I'm expecting delivery tomorrow so just subscribed to your channel and keen to fast track my learning experience.
Thank you for subscribing. I'll be getting some videos out soon on DaVinci.
Interesting, I use Premier but you have me intrigued about DaVinci. Great video.
Thanks Bill!!! You wouldn't be disapointed...at least with the free version. Don't forget to Subscribe ;) I'm going all in and will be doing quick simple tutorials over the next several weeks from a NOOBS perspective.
A quick answer, someone? I've been working in ProTools since 1997 and PremierePro since 2006. I like Premiere, I hate Audition but I love ProTools. Would DaVinci be able to match PT? Most sound editing nowadays for me are in the video segment. Still one leg in music, but it will be a lot more videomaking the next 10 yrs. Would Fairlight disappoint me?
Just speaking on my behalf but I love Fairlight. Works with 32bit foat and so easy to use. I never used audition but I heard it has issues.
You mentioned you were going to discuss what you use to replace Photoshop. I couldn't find that video. Please share. Thanks
I'll get a video out on that soon.
@@JaredHoyman Thank you. I started using Affinity photo when PS stopped supporting 360 photo editing. I use the Topaz lab tools for AI effects. I'll probably try Affinity Design for vector work.
Sold, thanks!
Been needing an alternative to $20/mo since I just got an apartment and I’m not doing anything more than simple cuts and transitions. So I’m going with the free version right now.
your the man thanku !
Good video... I subbed you Jared!
Awesome! Thank you!
The problem I keep having with premiere is after opening my project file it unlinks my media and then when I try to link it again it says the importer reported a generic error. Also not to mention the crashing on windows... How is the stability of davinci compared to premiere?
I had similar issues with premiere. DaVinci is way more stable and autosaves every sec so if it crashes you have it all saved. I love the library of categorizing too.
This was the last nail in the coffin. Sorry Premier Pro.. goodbye 😢❤💔
You wont miss Premiere. Trust me. I went cold turkey and haven't looked back. Once you get in the groove you will see how much easier and reliable Davinci Resolve is.
LOL!!! This video made me a subscriber!
You are one funny character 🤣😂
That's awesome! You just made my day! Welcome aboard.
How do you manage to keep your media linked? I liked Davinci when I first started using it a few years ago. Then something happened and every time I'd go out of a project and come back in, all my media links were gone! Even when I re-linked they were gone again the next time. No, I am not moving my files. I kept hoping it was some upgrade glitch and would get fixed, but it's been a few years now and it never gets fixed. What's up with that?? If you have a solution, I'm interested because I'd like to go back to it but I refuse to spend hours on a project only to have Davinci make more work for me. And I can't contact Black Magic because I have the free version and they won't talk to folks with the free version.
As someone who is just starting to learn editing, would it be best to learn Premiere Pro or Davinci Resolve? I would eventually like to make it into a career.
I would jump straight into Davinci Resolve especially since the free version offers a lot. Then if you want the studio you can do the one time payment of $295.
Thank you and... sold!:)
I tried DaVinci few times and I said big NO to that soft. Premiere Pro is perfect for me - adjustable, easy to add (and edit) pics to a video, when in DaVinci there is no drag-and-drop, so you have to use the numerical adjustment. And PP is much more intuitive, there is of course many more reasons.
I'm not sure the last time you used Resolve, but you can drag and drop images in and I would say resolve is more intuitive than premiere, but I do understand that it wasn't for awhile up until recently. I was a premiere pro user for 17yrs and I find a lot more benefits in resolve. In the end you have to use the software that works best for you and your edit workflow. I'm glad we all have multiple choices in editors.
no bro resolve has all the features you want and more.
Well you are right, but just partially. Try to move any pic above your movie on the timeline and click on the pic in the preview window - nothing happens, you can't move it in any direction, you can't change it's size, etc. In PP after one or two clicks on the picture, borders and corners would appear making manipulating the picture very easy just by using your mouse. You simply can't do that in DV. And that's not an intuitive thing. @@JaredHoyman
I am thinking 🤔 I should move but I heard that it’s hard to use..
I heard the same thing yrs ago, but when I decided to finaly try it this yr I realized that was a big fat lie. This seriously was the easiest move from premiere I could imagine. There is a feature that uses premieres short cut keys so editing is seamless. Use it a couple hrs a day for a week and you wont need to go back. What people may be saying when they say it's hard is color grading is more intuitive and has a little learning curve. Once you get a rhythm on color grading you will find it the easiest way to grade.
So, what's your alternative to Lightroom and Photoshop?
I searched for the video, but I think you haven't posted it yet.
Gimp as a substitute for photoshop and Luminar for Lightroom. Thanks for reminding me. I’ll need to make that vid.
Meh, software is not a person, and doers not require the commitment a person does, there is no cheating involved in switching from one to the other. Nice video
Hey, i'm getting into the world of editing just now and i am pretty confused which program suits better for me, i pretend to edt videos for youtube and my notebook is not the best, actually is quite simple
specs:
AMD Ryzen 7 5700U with Radeon Graphics 1.80 GHz
8 RAM GB
i'd like to know what your thoughts are
I think Davinci Resolve would be a great one to get into especially if you are just starting out. You can grow into the paid version plus it reasonable in price.
I have the creative cloud all apps bundle thing. But I kinda like the free resolve as it looks better and feels smoother. So I can't decide to go for premier or free davinci.
Even if you pay $295 for davinci studio you get such a better experience than premiere plus it's only a one time payment.
@@JaredHoyman yeah I never have that much money yet. It Def seems worth it but I can only use the free resolve that's why it's hard to decide. If the studio was cheaper or free or something I think I would go for it without a doubt
Still using premiere pro cs6.
Wife material.
LOL
Thanks for info. I was thinking about Blender. Can you please tell us about Blender VS DAVINCI RESOLVE.
Blender focuses on 3D rendering and creation where as Resolve is a full video editing suite. They work well together but you wouldn't edit a video in Blender. You would use Blender to create 3d animations.
@@JaredHoyman Thanks
lol love your presentation. thanks for the video. new subscriber
Awesome! Good to have you!
Regarding Davinci Resolve, Do you have to pay EACH TIME you upgrade a new version? Or is it one time payment for life?
One time payment and unlimited FREE upgrades. It's amazing!
@@JaredHoyman Bruh. That sure is a way to attract potential customers!
Everytime I get fed up with Premiere, Davinci Resolve becomes a bit more attractive to me.
But then I remember that i also need Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Lightroom and that I hate paying for stuff I don't use so I stick with Premiere until I have alternatives for those too :D
I use lightroom still. $10 a month isn't bad.
@@JaredHoyman yeah Lightroom only or maybe even the photo combo from Adobe (Lightroom + Photoshop) could be an option combined with affinity designer + publisher
Maybe one day... when I'm not too lazy :P
Hello! I'm a full-time Resolver but am struggling with subtitles and am currently looking at Premiere Pro with heart eyes - I SIMPLY cannot keep adding subtitles manually to my videos... I just can't. What would you recommend for my subtitle situation? Please help me Jared Hoyman you are my only hope.
to note: I cannot upload the file to CZcams and get the captions that way, it is not a possibility. Otherwise I would!
Excellent question! I just started getting into doing subtitles with my "SHORTS" and yes...it's totally annoying. I don't know if Premiere will necessary fix your problem, but you can always do the free trial to find out. Otherwise, I haven't looked too much into it, but you may want to check out this channel's video. czcams.com/video/KF2usUN3Le8/video.html. There is a one time fee for unlimited video's and it automatically transcodes. I'm sure there are others out there like it. Do a search and let me know if you find a good one. Thanks!
The recent Resolve 18.5 update currently in beta has added an auto-subtitles feature. I haven't upgraded yet myself (I'm waiting for it to get out of beta) but I've seen some raves about the new feature from a few CZcamsrs.
@@heightshost3259 I have a video out on it. The subtitle feature is amazing.

01:13 💰 DaVinci Resolve Studio offers a one-time payment of $295, with a potential discount for users with Blackmagic cameras, while Premiere Pro requires an annual subscription costing around $240.
03:48 🔄 DaVinci Resolve Studio provides a comprehensive package including video editing, special effects (Fusion), color correction, and sound editing (Fairlight), making it a versatile all-in-one solution.

06:03 🌐 DaVinci Resolve also offers cloud-based collaboration features, allowing users to work on projects remotely and share files, without the need for annual subscription fees.
07:14 📸 The creator has already transitioned from Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to alternative software, hinting at plans to discuss this transition in a future video.
nice
I started with Avid -> to Final Cut -> back to Avid -> then to Premiere -> then to Resolve. Now I am Premiere and Resolve. Why? Yes Resolve is a great tool... but it can be overcomplicated, buggy and frustrating to do simple compositing tasks. Sometime Premiere just makes more sense to use when you just need it done quickly.
Motion gfx? Have someone giving you PS/illustrator documents for animation? Need to whip up a quick edit with temp fx for offline only? Premiere is the go to.
Need to edit using cam files? Grade and do final online and output for Broadcast? Have a bit more time to spend on compositing? Resolve.
The right tool is what gets you paid... and my entire Adobe subscription is paid off in a days work. Sort of a no brainer for me still...
Blackmagic is a hardware company. They rely on users buying into their ecosystem. Panels, io boxes, etc. That's where they make their money. They both have pros and cons.
I remember when an Avid Media Composer was 80k just to set yourself up.... everything is so cheap now. We are lucky to have options.
That is all so true. It is relative and its all relatively inexpensive. Just like you, premiere suite is paid off in a half day's work. I did go all in and committed to do all my edits in resolve, so I have found work around and my work flow has speed up so fast that I don't think I could do that in premiere anymore. At the the end of the day it's a tool and if it helps you complete your task efficiency then go with that tool. BTW....LOVE YOUR USER NAME. I'm Laughing in my office as I type this.
@@JaredHoyman Cheers.
Your voice is good for some podcasts or in the voiceover of detective video games.
That would be fun to do. Thank you for the compliment.
is it still worth using if you only use the free version?
Depends on what you do. If it's 10bit log footage you need the studio paid version. Nothing to lose to try out the free version.
I started with PREMIERE befor PRO in Oct 1916 gave up with last time was 2017.
I'm assuming you mean 2016 not 1916? LOL. Probably felt like 1916.
I can't fucking stand the glitches in premiere anymore. It's been 6 years of upgrading computers and chasing the sofwares requirements. It's long but I'm gunna change to Davinci today, in the middle of a huge project. fuck it!! Thanks for the vid.
I hear you! I've been chasing the hardware too and now went to mac for the first time and resolve runs smooth on the M2 with barely any power needed.
@@JaredHoyman Man I have to bite the bullet and put the time in. It's getting absolutely ridiculous with premiere, I can't even edit proxy files with m1 anymore. Wish there was an optimised version of AE. Will continue paying my subscription for other parts of the suite but I'm definitely getting away from Pr now
@Bacon Sandwiches I went cold turkey, cancelled my subscription except for light room an photoshop. Forced myself to learn it and after a week I felt pretty comfortable. So much easier and smoother workflow. It's like having the entire Adobe suite in one software in tabs. You won't look back.
@@JaredHoyman Awesome. Appreciate the words mate.
Finally switched Adobe Suite to Davinci Resolve - never going back...
Welcome aboard! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who is this excited for moving over to Resolve.
I do video editing for living. Just came here to find replacement of premier pro. It's getting normal these days to lost my projects because of software crash and I'm tired of it.
Same experience and the reason I finally left premiere for Resolve. Just today I tripped a circuit in my office while editing in resolve shutting off my power to the computer. Booted back up and it was where I left off. Resolve saves in real-time as you edit. I can remember the last time I purposely save a project. You can just trust it where ad premiere you are saving every few seconds.
@@JaredHoyman Sounds Amazing!! after watching your video i just bought the studio version. did not start working on it but it already looks way better than priemier pro. Thank you so much sir!!! for your time and the efforts you are doing for your viewers
@Histrophy thank you for your kind words. You will love resolve.
Was deciding if I should switch from premiere to davinci, then when i hit the like button on this video, it hit 888 likes. No doubts after that.
😆 it's a sign!
the corporate sharks sat there for years with an elitist smug look on their faces knowing they had the market by the balls. we now live in an age where the small man can basically make top quality productions on a laptop like it was made in a hollywood studio and these small men who were once on a budget too and got ripped off have made software that takes the power away from the top boys by keeping the prices fair . same has happened in music production too . FL studio opens the doors for the low budget producer . i boycotted anything adobe years ago and all the other subscription pirates
Hi, Im looking for something new. thanks for this info.
You are welcome! I still am loving it.
@@JaredHoyman I’m gonna to download DR.
PR was really expensive like you said
i just like fucking around with the software making editing videos for people. ill never be a pro but i like to have pro software at my finger tips with next to no limitations. theres millions of people like me who cant justify the price of subscribing to premiere . davinci is great and i have become a loyal customer. just ordered a bit of their hardware
The problem is not about Premiere. It's about Photoshop and After Effects. I start most of my projects on Photoshop, and tehn animate layers and add vfx on AE. I use Premiere after 80% of the job is done, in this case, I see no reason to migrate to Davinci. How could I work my layers on Fusion, for example? Nodes are like Greek to me
I'm still learning, but nodes are making more and more sense. They are like organized layers that are easier to categorize and keep track of. It's nice having it all in one software than moving between a few for a full project edit. I will tell you my macbook pro max with m2 chip cuts and dices 10bit, 12bit 4k through 8k as if it was butter. The native codec hardware support you have with apples new chips along with davinci resolve does make premiere look like a turtle even if the pc has a 4090 rtx gpu. It is a onetime payment for studio version forever at $295. You can also use free non studio to get used to the feel, but the power is in the studio.
@@JaredHoyman Yeah, I totally agree with you. And, it would be great to get rid of Premiere's slowness and crashes and you can actually buy the software (Davinci). You pay for it once and you have it. What do we get when we stop paying Adobe? I will keep studying the free version. I'm not ready to switch yet. I must first make sure I can do the same things in the same time with both. Thanks for the reply! See you!
I get it...and it's a little funny to me. You think $245 per year is bad. The last AVID I bought was $155k...and that was for the not top of the line one...all this stuff for a few hundred bucks is a gift - no matter what flavor...
I agree! It's all affordable now and that is why competition is good, because it is only getting better. Resolve blows away Premiere in features and usability and with only a one time payment.
I really feel like there is no way for me too decide... Like seriously. I used FCPX for a long time, now about 2 weeks ago I needed to do some work in Premiere and After Effects (Beginner in both), and I need to say, the interface is like so "boring"... but it just has some crazy features... Mocha AE, like I don't know anything that does tracking so well and it is not even Mocha Pro... Also the Text based Editing is like a dream for CZcams Videos (yes I know, Resolve has it to, but I think not for German language).
But here comes the problem, everything else, except tracking and Animation / Motion Graphics, Resolve wins easy... The interface top notch, the hardware (speed editor and mini panel) world class, the grading ability insane. Overall plugins for fast videos (motionVFX) better in Resolve.
But then there are these things as I mentioned, text based editing, support for Apple ProRes RAW (DaVinci would need a converter), etc. I am feeling like I need to get both... Also Adobe has things like illustrator, you just make a graphic, put it to after effects, animate it and drag it to premiere like this is soooo easy. Idk how I would do this with Resolve... But as I said, then I get drawn to Resolve because of the Speed editor and the color grading features PLUS the hardware for it (Mini Panel).
Anyone who can bring in some other thoughts? Should I get both? Where do I get the Plugins from motionVFX - Resolve or Premiere? Are there things I don't know yet? I would really appreciate any help or input so I can make a decision soon...
Out of all of the editors I feel like Resolve is more consistent in updating and improving. I do have FCP, but never used it for a project. It's a "just in case" type scenerio. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "text base", but if you mean automatic caption then Resolve now has it and it works amazing. You can create an entire transcript from your video and put it in a word doc. You can also delete specific words and it will delete those parts of the video.
@@JaredHoyman Thank you very much! Yes, i think i will go with DaVinci :)
How do I get it for 150?
Find a friend who bought a blackmagic camera and offer them $150 for the license.
I recently had an exam and was forced to use premiere pro. After 3 days of using premiere pro, I missed DaVinci resolved.
One thing that I couldnt stand in premiere pro is how I ended up rendering and rendering just to preview. There is nothing like that in DaVinci resolve
If I had to go back to premiere I would probably screw up a project. Resolve has such a good flow and way of organizing projects compared to premiere.
for me adobe pr is way better since all the effect and shit i use in pr are easy and not bugy like resolve ones
That's interesting. I used premiere for 17yrs and I find resolve less buggy and all the effects work in real-time without any rendering. Did you use the studio or the free version? I'm running a 3080rtx and it performs better on resolve than premiere.
@@JaredHoyman its just my work flow since i use keyframing a lot and speed ramping + not a lot guide in fusion page since i try to do some effect i use before in after effect but no guide how to them so
@@JaredHoyman + masking is way better in pr
@@ekkochi9016 resolve 18 introduced magic mask in the color tab and it's exactly what it says. I do all my masking in color now with that feature and it's fast and easy.
@@JaredHoyman the ai effects in resolve are amazing not gonna lie
gonna use davinci since adobe is being braindead not allowing me access cuz i dont live in the US
The lightning set up confused me
I don't disagree. I was experimenting that day and did not check my exposure carefully. I believe that was the only.time I tried that ;)
me happy using filmora X 😄
I want to shift from premier pro to davinchi resolve.
You wont regret it. Best thing I did in a long time.
@@JaredHoyman Ultimately, I am finally shifted. I am well satisfied here.
7:04 :( Promise in the wind
Life happens. Gimp2 and Luminar4.
SO... where are the videos??
I'll have to create a Playlist but here is one. I have a few out there on color grading.

Adobe is the best on BUGS and SLOWDOWN on PREVIEWS ahahah
LOL....yup...it wins there.
I hate Premiere Pro for how much money they are taking you. I ‘ m glad that Da Vinci is one time payment and is better and more friendly user. And is not crushing like Premiere
Me too! It renders and edits so much more smoother, too.
hmmmmm oke, oke, okee
Noob here, I have been using iMovie for years LoL 😅
Lol..love it!
@@JaredHoyman I tried looking for more videos of your on Davinci, do you have any links handy?
But you don't have videos exploring davinci...
I do have some out there. Color grading and the latest one was on closed caption.
Premiere Pro is like being involved with a hot chick that's a drugfiend.
No matter how great the promise is, no matter how much you think you can change her, she'll always revert to crashes and fall back into failing the trust you put into her and all the work you invested into that relationship gets washed away.
DaVinci is the not as hot, but reliable chick with a good head on her shoulders and she won't stress you out. You just have to get over the hot chick and realize that temporary hotness is no were near as good as permanent and trouble free warmth.
LOL....WOW...That is an amazing comment! I have to take it a bit further though. At first DaVinci wasn't as hot, but she became so reliable and after discovering more amazing features in her she became even HOTTER! She OUTPUTS all the time now without complaining unlike that tramp Premiere.
I don't care for the name of the company that makes DaVinci Resolve. Odd they say DaVinci, because he wouldn't've liked the name either. I'm particular about which companies I involve the ministry with.
I don't disagree with you. I don't care for the name either. But...we can go down that rabbit hole and most companies would fall into that realm. Apple was founded by Steve Jobs who dropped a lot of LSD and was probably very demonically influenced, yet his computers have been used to spread the gospel. Use it as a tool for your ministry. Be in the world, but not of it.
Ok dude we get it, resolve is cheaper. From a person with 17yrs of experience in Premiere i was looking for some comparison in using it daily, like does one crash more often the another one, whar about basic editing and stuff. In resolve transitions are driving me crazy - is it the same in premiere pro?
I wanted to get some knowledge but instead I've learned as basic knowledge as jt was possible to pass - that one is cheaper than another one. Yes dude, we know that, every video on the topic says it.
Maybe you should search my channel for more resolve videos instead of relying on a 1.5yr old video that is about why I left premiere for resolve. And yes….it rarely crashes and out performs premiere in most ways.
@@JaredHoyman ok thank you
Im a noob.
I paid $300 for my copy of it and I got a Speed editor for free as a bundle
That is an amazing deal! How do you like the speed editor?
@Jared Hoyman TBH it collected dust until recently. I ended my Adobe Cloud cloud subscription tonight. I reinstall my old cs6 copy just for photoshop. I'm currently learning how to use Davinci Studio with the Speed Editor.
What NO Chapters BRO.
I should make chapters. I'm horrible at it. Chapter 1-I left Premier PRO, Chapter 2-I'm so much more happier with Davinci Resolve ;)
Premier pro socks with rendering and export always freeze
Had those issues too.
i dunno man, Premiere is like that rental payment hahahahah
Lol
hahaha great intro
Great video. I'm sold. Time to dive-in-ci-resolve
Cheater got me to click..nice touch
Lol....I love it. It worked!
Love the opening! But wouldn't Davinci be a dude? You came out instead. 🤣
Touche! It's like Alex or Sam...could be a girls name. Davinci is a hot girl who has ugly girl syndrome. That's why she offers so much with little cost. She doesn't realize her worth.
@@JaredHoyman 1p
I have SHOTCUT, FILMORA and DAVINCI RESOLVE installed. Resolve is the last one I would wat to use. WHY ?
DAVINCI RESOLVE GUI sucks ! Super dark unrewadable. After 30min I do not want to use it anymore, my eyes get too tired. No GUI colors customization. I will never switch to this program until the fix this simple issue.
just pirate the bloody thing 💀

Good! I illustrated my point well then.

I am a noob. I work currently in the IT sector, and I am working towards an exit out of my working life (retirement). I recently got into photographing and video and I just started to learn programs from the Adobe suite. The main reason is that almost everybody seems to use the Adobe suite and therefore it best supported. Let me give an example what I mean. I am a subscriber of Storyblocks. I noticed that they have a Premiere Pro plugin but I don't see a Davinci Resolve plugin. I see they have Premiere Pro templates and After Effects templates but don't have Davinci Resolve templates. If I search for "Premiere Pro" in Google then I get much more results then when I search for "Davinci Resolve". What I am afraid for is what I see with Linux vs Windows. Linux is great and probably more used then Windows, although many people don't realize it when they are using Linux. As a desktop consumer OS however I have the feeling you have to be either an expert or you should not love yourself when you switch to Linux. Yes, Linux is great and I mean that. It does however not run my software. That is what I am afraid for with Davinci Resolve. Where can I e.g. find templates that I can use? Are there just as much templates for Davinci Resolve as for Adobe? How about support? Are there just as much tutorials for Davinci Resolve as for Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. Does Davince Resolve even have photo editing software? I don't mind switching to something else if it is pure better but I have my doubts.
Download the free version and use it. I have found there is more templates and options inside the software than premiere. I'm not too familiar with story blocks, but I do use adobe's free stock video and photo library, which you have access to if you have lightroom. I was a premiere user for 17yrs and I have not looked back after going to resolve. There are tons of tutorials out there on it and resolve is the industry standard for color grading in Hollywood. I would not put it in the same category as Linux. I would compare it more to final cut in the sense it's a major player.
@@JaredHoyman I can install the software. That is no problem. I am a noob with Premiere Pro but I have already spend hundreds of hours learning the basics. That is worth more to me than the 60 Euro per month that I pay for the license. I would be more then happy to switch over and start learning Davinci Resolve if I was convinced that it would be better in every way possible. I try to get an answer on that question by watching some YT video's but most video's about this topic are highly biased. It seems almost like a war between titans with all the drama involved. I have yet to find a video with the pros and the cons explained in a somewhat neutral way. I am not married to the software that I use. I have seen plenty of video's of people that say they are leaving Premiere Pro but all seem to think there is nothing good about Premier Pro suddenly. I have a hard time believing that one product is so much superior over the other while so many people are still using the "inferior" product. I hope I explained it a bit better now where my doubt is coming from. I have to say that I really appreciate the time you spend on answering the questions of your viewers. Not many YT do that anymore. So, thanks.
@@annoholics Thank you! I appreciate the questions. I think the best way to explain the shift in the industry for video editing is "gradual". It seems like many people in the last few months have moved over to Davinci from premiere, but I don't believe its out of the blue or out of "left field". Davinci Resolve has been around for over a decade, but it wasn't until the last couple yrs where you could actually edit start to finish in the software. Originally people would take premiere projects over to color grade and then bring them back over to premiere to finish the project. Resolve has now made it where you can, cut, edit, grade, add special effects, sound edit and export all in the same software just by clicking on tabs. Even Premiere doesn't allow that. They require you to use audition for sound and after effects for special effects. What has made it easy for me to switch is that resolve has a "premiere" layout you can choose, so when you edit you are using all the same short keys as premiere. It feels the same to edit, but just with a little different look. Premiere may fall into the category of PC where Resolve is like an Apple. It just works. I can go on forever, but the BIG thing is that it saves your projects real time so if you have a crash or power outage it starts back where you left off. I never hit the save button anymore, whereas in premiere I created a short key on my mouse where I clicked it every few seconds because I have had projects crash without saving. I played with the free version before going all in ;)
Just in case you didn't see it. I did post a video today on Davinci Resolve. Let me know your thoughts. czcams.com/video/76HK0jk0bwI/video.html
