- Welcome to the FilmVerse project - The initial idea was quite straightforward: FilmVerse, a film emulation plugin designed to mimic the finest characteristics of Kodak’s Vision3 series of film stocks-one of Hollywood’s most commonly used film stocks. But we knew we weren’t here to develop another film plugin in a sea of film looks. Everyone wants to mimic film.
In our pursuit to mimic film as closely as possible, we developed a concrete pipeline that allows for layering different aspects of modern creative look building for feature films. Our goal for this pipeline was to enable non-destructive adjustments, providing the ability to craft complex and nuanced looks-all while challenging the native controls and underlying mathematics of Davinci Resolve.

I noticed it right away. Although I thought it was on my end. Whew!
done on purpose to show better quality image cause there is less compression at 15fps than 24/30/60, all about bit rate :)

Love this! I'm always chasing ways to compress my time in Davinci. A great look shouldn't take hours and a dozen nodes.

Will it work on Davinci resolve studio version 17?
Just wow. I had a question, do you need the full version of Davivnci to use these plug in? Especially the texture part (which has halation and grain) ?
Yes Studio version is a must. At least until we are done coding an OFX version of the plug-in.
What was the Third Party program mentioned at 00:53 used to adjust the Hue ?
This one’s our own. OKLab based, in a HSL like wrapper. Still in work, we will be posting it on GitHub soon.
Incase anyone is interested in third party hue manipulations, same point can be made using a HSL Tetra Fuse by Emeber Light VFX’s fuse: github.com/EmberLightVFX/Tetrahedral-Interpolation-for-Fusion
Does this work on the free version of Davinci?

Yes, new stuff is being added as we speak. It’s a lifetime deal :) you’ll keep on getting updates. Right off the bat there’s more film stocks and a couple of cool new features. Planned release - mid April :)

i how many computers can i use the license?
Is the conversion suitable for HDR rec2100 or p3 D65 in the odt? Or is it limited to rec709 gamma 2.4 like the davinci native film looks?
It works in a CST sandwich, CST out is Davinci Wide Gamut to outputs available in Davinci Resolve :)

And how to put this pipeline on my 8bit footage in Premiere?
Coming up with OFX solution, for now we have Lite versions of emulation on website. That can be used with a free version of Resolve to create a custom camera LUT or a Premiere Pro LOG LUT. I suggest you try out our free film LUT before that.
Plug in is AMAZING! Only problem is I don't have enough for the full product and that watermark ruins all my footage.

I believe it's the 'Split Tone' of the film stock. A setting you can control as he shows at 3:22.

I got Dehancer and Look Designer and DeMystify’s Beyond Film Emulatoon and Monolabs Look Lab Print.
I dont think this adds anything to that line up.
Especially with Davinci Resolve 19 inbuilt density tools
I’d say, everything except dehancer is super recommended. But you are missing a point here. Getting film look is super easy - esp with resolve’s internal film filters now. It’s having good math to be able to stretch that look to a number of diverse project. Around here we only look upto - maybe - filmbox in that sense.
Resolve’s new tools are good, but I wish the look Dev toolset was updated as well. Just like filmlight has been releasing some really good tools. That’s the experiment with this DCTL as well. Our behaviours are based on equations mimicking film like behaviour rather than 1:1 matching with film like responses. And the equations are coded into our custom color space.
Film is a smaller part of our deal, and I am genuinely excited to put forth what we’ve been cooking on this side of earth through this plug-in.
how does it stack up against Dehancer or Filmconvert Nitrate?
In our view, this pipeline is much more flexible than what resolve or any other plug-in offers. Every look we intend to release is made in a custom perceptual color space.
This makes it practical and future proof. Rest, it’s all yours now to test out, feel free to use the demo, or reach out to our Instagram incase you require a watermark free demo version :)
it's cheaper than dehancer, but more expensive than film-convert, this one does look somehow more flexible and has more features, i will get it for my next project
the main DCTL isn't working for me at all, full version. I'm on the latest build of studio. I've followed the instructions in IDT and ODT but nothing.. The film texture works but that's it. any ideas?

The price is quite steep for a single look, considering there's no grain, halation, or other effects. Also, what's going on with the frame rate?
There is grain and halation, do try out the demo. And do go through the pdf. The idea is to use film as an initial point to stretch and create looks :)
Is it just me or those white dots pops up after you apply DCTL?

Not trying to be rude but what makes this better than something like cineprint 16 when its 1/5th of the price?
Cineprint is great! It has its merits, but like all power-grades, it has its limitations. This is precisely why we paused after developing a significant update for our power-grades, which were highly popular 2 years ago. Something just didn’t feel right about developing a static look.
There’s much to discuss, but as a starting point, I recommend downloading our demo to test its performance compared to Powergrades and other plugins.
Moreover, mastering power-grades typically requires a deep understanding of color grading. As a starting point, yes a powergrade is great! But when it comes to look building and trying to stand out from a sea of people with same starting point as you? I am not sure if everyone is able to push/pull the look to create something unique.
Our plugin, however, is designed to address these challenges even for those without extensive color grading knowledge. That’s the whole philosophy of it.
This topic certainly warrants a more detailed discussion through a video or blog post. I’ll make sure to update this comment and our social media channels once we’ve created this content :)
FilmVerse is faster to work, does not tax your computer, have a better look outcome, has no bizarre hallation, etc. I have both.

I haven’t tested it on Ipad Resolve. But I’m doubtful it will work.
why do we have to use studio version of davinci for this plugin. That's means extra payment for us using the free version. Or we could just buy studio version and use a powergrade! It doesn't make sense
That's not therir issue thats davinci's issue unfortuantly.
The demo should let people have a film emulation to use, because with that I can really see how good the plugin could be.

Place it in LUTs folder and restart resolve. Drag and drop DCTL onto a node and select “FilmVerse” from the list.

I worked on my last product for about three years. And upon launch it leaked in a week. I am super cautious with this one. In long term if my luck plays out well, all the funds will end up creating good cinema.
