A Maya Story: the q'anjob'al community in Alamosa, Colorado.

The Q'anjob'al Maya language group suffered terribly in the Guatemalan army's scorched earth operations in the early 1980's and they created communities in exile in the United States that have manifested a remarkable persistence. The Q'anjob'al and Akatec speaking Mayans who found their way to Alamosa Colorado in the San Luis Valley have proclaimed a concern for preserving their cultural values and their language while engaging with the Alamosa community in creative ways. This is a retrospective of the last 30 years of responding to challenges and to good fortune, luck and to fostering the future generations.
