5 Tips For Wall Diving For Beginner Scuba Divers - Grand Cayman

- This Dive Instructor surprises his former Scuba Students with a check-in dive 5 YEARS AFTER certification! We drove up to Rum Point from Grand Cayman's West Bay to get the drop on my friends Steve and Robin who had NO CLUE I was on island! The surprise totally worked. Hilarity and great diving ensued...
We dive Grand Cayman's AWESOME North Wall - which drops 4000ft/1200m of vertical underwater topography (we didn't go that deep, obviously, because I'm typing this...) As always, my trusty dive buddy @FindingMenno was along for the ride.
AND... we give you 5 pieces of advice for points to consider if you've never done a big wall dive before. Swimming out seeing shallow reef below you, over the precipice and the coral suddenly drops away to deep, dark water can make some people's stomachs flip.
Whilst the underwater wall makes dive navigation relatively straight forward, there are definitely additional considerations to diving deep walls Vs shallow reef.

Dont know why this brought tears to my eyes. I have not seen my dive instructor in 5 years maybe thats why!
I’d absolutely love to see mine as well!! Such a bond bc of the fears & struggles I faced yet my amazing instructor got me through 🏅
I’ll always have a place in my heart 💙 for him
That you develop a relationship with your students to the point 5 years later you're friends is awesome. Cheers from Vancouver!
Man that was an early rise... But so much fun to surprise Steve and Robin, enjoyed being part of the surprise. And it was such a fun day of diving and catching up. And yes I'm ashamed that I never went to see Cayman Elvis!
It was a great day! Some of the most fun I've ever had diving! Except for the 4 minutes where I thought I lost my GoPro!
@@DiversReady Oh yeah! Forgot about that moment already!
Wake up, see the notification, watch the video. It’s that simple!
Thanks Austin! Glad you liked it!
0 dislikes! Never seen that in all my years of CZcams comments
How awesome that you kept in touch and surprised your former students.
I got a tease of wall diving in Turks & Caicos and didn't have any of these tips. It was my first time in over 10 years. Can't wait to go back after watching all your videos and learning. Thanks for this.
I am learning so much with you James!! I really love your channel! Keep up the awesome work!
I’ve only been SCUBA diving for just under a year and am nowhere near an instructor rating in that activity, but I’ve been skydiving for several years and am a certified instructor in that. It is unbelievably rewarding seeing how your students progress after some time has past. It’s obvious they’ve taken to further experience/training and it’s defiantly a proud moment for any instructor.
Drift dive on the wall at Cozumel is also awesome
e
It's good to see a couple doing it together and both loving it something I will never have my misses hates it
Oh no D d! That's too bad! James
You just proved us brits can’t impersonate Elvis! But the diving tips are great...
No one can impersonate Elvis... there is only one true King! Hahaha! Thanks for watching, CptPegg! James
Nice man, surprising those guys was cool
Thanks for watching Purseseine! James
That's so cool! One of my favorite dive sites in Grand Cayman is Babylon. Awesome site.
I was crusing the top of a wall then saw our guide freaking out pointing to the blue. All I could make out was a tail. Later he said it was a huge sailfish. I now keep an eye out more often.
GREAT CHANNEL!!! congratulations, always look forward to monday videos..
by the way... love your shirt!! where did you get it??
thanks for all your content! keep it up!
Hi Hernan, thank you so much. I found the shirt from a vendor on Amazon and thought it would be good for these videos, so I bought it in a bunch of different colors. Here's the link, this is not an affiliate link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B21VVKC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&customId=B07535YF3H&psc=1
James
The Borderlands of dive videos.
The OW course is kinda like Sex Ed. "The instructor's job is to get you through the course and make you safe. Your job then is to go out and gain experience!" Lol
You must have had a different Sex Ed experience than I did... we got sat in a room while they played the sound of a baby screaming over Peppa Pig on repeat for six hours. Brutal.
Ha! Cheers, James
@@DiversReady Hmmmm... I think that class was called Political Science at my school.
I think this video explain the concept of "choosing an instructor"........
cool dude
that's awesome!
Looks like Menno is diving single sidemount ... Please describe his rig ... Which Sidemount BCD is he wearing -- a Hollis SMS-100D with double bladder since he's obviously not wearing a drysuit to afford him backup lift redundancy of a second bladder?). At 100 - 130 feet, if he had a BC bladder failure could he swim up with a [fairly] full cylinder? Is he diving Aluminum-80 or an AL-80Neutral buoyancy cylinder there in seawater. A Steel-100 cylinder would make you too heavy and torque your body around to the left - - even if you counterweight with lead weights on your right side, which would become problematic as you burned down your gas only to then have excess weight on your right?). How does he configure his regulator for single sidemount with a thin (3 mm for Grand Cayman?) wetsuit (i.e., no extra LP inflator hose for dry suit)? Could you do a video on single sidemount diving, PLEASE? THANKS, in advance, looks like it was a GREAT WALL DIVE with your very surprised friends/former students!!!! CHEERS!
FUCKING AWSESOME!
I want to go to Cayman too! Is a US driver license (California) enough to drive a right-wheeled vehicle?
Where did you get that shirt you are wearing at the end of the video? As always love the content! Sorry I am year late to the game on this video haha.
The scuba patterned shirt? I don't know... it was a gift from my wife.
