If Dawntrail does end up having a theme of tribal civilization vs oppression via technology, a raid series about the enlightened races vs beastmen fits pretty well.
I played FFXI from 2003 until the launch of XIV. A good chunk of my childhood spent in that game and so many memories. I absolutely cannot wait for this content and I really hope they tell a good story with the lore from xi. Also I would like to see our XI character’s apprentice again, Iroha, who was in the crossover event.
And whom never actually was able to return to Vana'diel and is seemingly still hanging around in Eorzea somewhere

I could see the (3) beastmen leaders + shadowlord as the first raid if they want to go across each main expansion for each raid tier. Thats my initial thought but I am also hoping they really surprise us.

Dynamis was my favorite part of FFXI. I had full sets of AF2 for every job. I adored that game and I really REALLY hope they port some of the music from XI in Dawntrail.
I have a strong feeling he'll be the final boss. As mentioned before several times throughout XIV, several beast tribes such as the Kobolds and Sylphs call their primals because of encroaching settlements that goes contrary to pre-established agreements or threatening the tribes themselves. Largely, the relations between the playable races and beast tribes still needs work. It'd be interesting to see Odin at play fueling the fires of conflict, but i wouldn't be surprised if a sad bird is somehow in the mix, or something new
If Chaos is in the mix however he must be voiced by Keith David again. He killed it in dissidia

This was a nice refresher for the Shadowlord. I haven't played XI since it first released on PS2. I actually didn't know that much about the Galkan lore, or that I forgot. Its very interesting.
I was curious though if its even video worthy to talk about the Moblins? Since they are coming in Dawntrail, I would love to hear their history in FFXI as well.
This recap is the perfect refresher of the game and characters for me. I played FFXI back in the day, but due to real life issues (and the PS hard drive dying on me multiple times) I stopped playing during the Rise of Xilart expansion. I remember the Shadowlord being betrayed with a "twist" but forgot about him it being specifically Cornelia that died instead. Heck, I even forgot about the lore with the Talekeeper.

Definitely looking forward to a potential fight with the 5 Crystal Warriors, Kam'lanaut and Eald'narche battle.
I've played 11 and have gone back and played but sometimes I either totally forget what happened in certain cases or just glossed over because it can be sooooo much reading. There aren't a whole lot of lore/history/synopsis videos out there either so I'd def enjoy this type of content to go in-depth of FFXI lore/storyline.
I thought they skipped 11 for close to a decade before finally hearing it’s existed for most of my life. And by then, XIV was already out so… I’ll be interested to see some stuff from 11.

I assume the raid series will likely take place somewhere in Tural but according to Encyclopaedia Eorzea vol 3 the Eleventh reflection hasn’t been rejoined so they might use that as an opportunity 😅

I now have the crazy idea that they're working on a new expansion for FFXI and we will only know through the final alliance raid and they will make us go back to XI to get the conclusion

currently going through 11 right now.
The beast tribe angle to the Shadowlord’s motivation does have some interesting possibilities with FFXIV’s story. Tension with the tribes, and even the disgraceful nature of the term “beast tribe” itself, has been a running theme for a long while. And Shadowbringers and Endwalker brought the idea of making peace with them an option.
I haven't played enough of XI, but in other games Shadow Lord has always stuck out to me. He looks so simple, but you know he will fuck you up.
I wonder if this raid will finally finish the Gabranth storyline ,
I'm really struggling to decide what they could do for the raid. The ark angels seem unlikely because of how directly they inspired the ShB virtues and even if we were get a Divine Might style encounter with all 5, now that 24 man raids only have 3 tanks I can't see that working well since we'd probably need 5 or 6.
Having the Zilart bros could be cool but if we look at the high tier battlefields in XI for the series boss fights greatest hits it looks something like

Kam'lanaut
Eald'narche
Maybe the sin hunters as an inbetween boss battle
Omega/Ultima
Tenzen
Promathea
Alexander
Odin
Wotg Shadow Lord
Lilith
With Atomos sprinkled in
Shinryu
And that completely leaves out all the latter expansions. They could be going for a Rhapsodies style memory lane resulting in us fighting Cloud of Darkness, again (you know they need a reason to use that rig).
The big bosses are likely to be the popular ones. Shadow Lord, Promathia, and the 3rd one is a bit more of a mystery. I doubt anything ToAU would fill that (though maybe the mid bosses) and, while I would love WotG stuff or Altana, I would say the odds are higher that it'd be something SoA or Rhapsodies related. Iroha is still in Eorzea, after all.
@@foomp I dunno, Lilith is VERY popular. Could easily see her being the end of the final raid with the wardens being a mid fight. WotG could go something like Cait Sith, True Shadow Lord, Atomos, Lilith + Ascended
@@pragmat1k From what I gather, a lot of people look down upon WotG, due to how convoluted the content was with story and progression. Best story next to CoP IMO (and Lilisette = best girl), but many didn't agree if I recall right.
For the bosses though, my own experience with FFXI would be the only reason to see a 2nd Shadow Lord fight and another version of Atomos as a good idea. Likewise, XIV has its own Cait Sith that was modeled after the XI version. Too many identical/repeat characters might be a downside. I can maybe see Lilith and the Wardens, given Endwalker story, but it really just depends what direction the raid story goes. Could just isolate itself to vanilla, for all we know.
Shadow Lord as first final boss, Eald'narche as second final boss, then Promathia as main final boss would be a reasonable prediction.
I only played FFXI for 6 months in 2004 and it was my first mmorpg experience. Within that time I have a lot of memories.
Honestly, kind of sad that Opera Omnia is ending service before we could get the Shadow Lord in that game, though we did get Kam'lanaut and Eld'narch and Selthius at least

Yeah Wings of the Goddess reveals quite a lot about Raogrimm - and Vana'diel's true origins.
Without the later expansions to expand upon his lore he's just kind of a mid villain, but gets far more intriguing over time.

Hmmm, your ever crisis ad is a little outdated. Holy flames gift ended back in December. (I think we may be getting yuffie today though…)
I really hope they make some silly nods to hayday FFXI mechanics and such. Make it so to 'spawn' a boss you first have to kill a set number of trash using the same, but smaller, model or put in a glam drop Optical Hat from a hecteyes mini boss named Hakutaku.

Best mmo ever made, so good I quit ff14 and joined ff11 horizon server. I wish SE would overhaul 11 and add it to ff14 menu like wow did their classic.
Pretty much every FFXI player for retail is yearning for an updated launcher. I would say account access too on the browser but even FFXIV still deals with stupid hoops that need to be jumped through (just less so than XI).
