  • Its fig season in the UK so we thought we would show you how to grow figs in your own garden at home. Figs can be grown in southern England reliably and are quite easy to grow. In this video, we show you 3 fig trees all growing outside and planted directly into the ground and also how to grow fig trees in pots.
Fig trees are easy to propagate and clone from an existing tree that produces fruit you like. You can pick ripe figs the following year from young trees produced in this way.
Fig trees can also be easily grown in good size pots, in fact, some gardeners prefer to restrict the root run of fig trees to promote fruiting. so they make an ideal patio or balcony small fruit tree choice even if you don't have a garden.

I love your video! It has given me a bit of hope. I've just planted two Brown Turkey fig trees by the fence in a south/west position but I'm a bit worried its too close to the fence and not warm enough.I am in Buckinghamshire.

The tree depicted at the beginning appears to be all leaves & scant fruit which suggests that the pruning regime is a bit hit & miss, or hasn't been mastered yet ?

Thank you for the feedback. We gave the tree a very hard prune last year or it could have been this spring, as it was overgrowing its space and intruding onto the patio. We've had an incredibly wet spring followed by a wet summer and this growth has all occurred this year. Unfortunately I think we will have to hard prune it again, so probably not much fruit next year either. We seem to get more fruit when we have a dry spring and summer.

The middle section courtyard fig went in as a 3-inch baby, give it time. We are cropping off all three right now. I am about to do a fig jam video.
