    Love your analyses on this one CH. Your juxtaposition of the Tadej “Screw the TdF! I’m here to win every stage, let’s light the matches!” vs “OK guys, remember this is a prelim to all of us being a part of cycling history later, so let’s win it by being smart and efficient” will keep me on the edge of my seat the whole race. A maturing Tadej and DS will pick the latter…I hope. Can’t wait to see which script plays out! Brilliant!

    I think we know Pogacar should race the Giro tactically to save energy for the Tour.
    I think we also know Pogacar has asked his DS if anyone has held the pink jersey for all 21 days before and might be planning to do that given the profile of Stage 1.

    #87 I was last across the line. I had a double flat outside the 3K mark DAMM. I am going to be up all night because these big stage races are like when you were a kid, not sleeping the night before Christmas. I hope we have a surprise rider that comes out and takes 2 minutes on Pog. I know that one big hope. I hope someone at least makes a race out of the Giro. Because Pog actually has no one that has challenged him racing because of that horrible crash. G. Thomas actually in my humble opinion doesn't have a chance against Pog. UAE brought a very dominant team. Great pre race analysis Chris 👍 thank you. I will be on my trainer watching half the race the weather is to nasty out to ride.

    I think INEOS are going to be a different animal in the Giro and TDF. There has been a big squad overhaul bringing in a lot of multi discipline, multi age group world Champions from development squads. They have forgone the early season races and the indicators of Pidcock winning Amstel Foss stage 1 of the Alps and then taking GC on Romandie means they are hitting peak form for GIRO. I think INEOS are going to surprise a lot of people this season who have written them off!

    That's the beauty of this race Chris, as you said with such a dominant rider like Tadej, he could choose either scenarios as you laid out and still win it.
    I agree with you and choose the later as I believe the TDF should be his focus plus not attacking every stage and allowing other teams some leeway to be in their good graces for the future. Btw Love the Butterfly Effect, look forward each day .

    Chris, while watching your video, I had a moment of associative thinking. As in in related, really.
    Question! Do you have the book The Rider, by Tim Krabbe (published 1978) in your collection of bicycle paraphernalia? If not, recommended!
    Anecdote: I started racing in 1980, which was Krabbe's last year of racing. So we were both at the start of a race, where the microfonist mentioned Krabbe as: this guy has written a uhh uhh little book.
    (In the Netherlands reading books was not the most popular pastime among bicycle racers and their supporters ... 😁)

  • @UlrikODriscollgeist
    @UlrikODriscollgeist Před měsícem

    I believe Pog will win today, but I think he will do it in a smarter way than you mentioned. That last "bump" is 10 % for 1.4k, Pog could just do a hard attack there, like he did on La Redoute, and then it's only 3k downhill to the finish. Going already on that 2nd cat will cost him more energy and he doesn't need to put 45s into his competitors on stage 1 already. I actually think he will want to win as easy as possible today and then use the stage tomorrow to gain some time. That last climb tomorrow will suit Pog perfectly, last 6-7k averages 8 % and he is just incredible on those 15-20 minutes hard efforts.

    Well here we go! Its showtime! The contenders know that Pogi will want to win the Giro but save a little something in the tank to recover and be ready for the Tour. So how much does Pogi push to win the Giro? This is where it could meltdown leaving him with podium in both races but not winning either one! Other teams will grant him the Giro win possibly but make him really work for it and burn him out for the Tour. Say many scenarios. I dont think even Pogi can win both if he has to really push the limits, even with the "easier " Giro this year theres just too much at stake. Please just no nasty crashes.

    Wouldn't a tactic to combat UAE letting a break go forcing Ineos to drive the peleton be to try and put a rider in the break themselves, not someone G would necessarily need in Stage 1, but it would say to UAE we're fine, let the break go, we don't care, we have a man up there? In the end of Pog attacks and you can't match him that's going to happen, you need a team around you to try and either limit your losses or pull them back, being forced to ride and use up all your matches early on is not good strategy and just needs to be combatted at all costs, it'll be interesting to see who blinks first in this game of poker!!!
