"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on CZcams. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on CZcams, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

We keep voting for the lesser evil. But the lesser evil keeps getting more and more evil. At what point can you no longer bring yourself to vote for evil?
At no point. Life is a series of lesser-of-two-evils decisions. Stop being a child and learn to live with it.
This whole situation has really highlighted the logical insanity of those who make the lesser evil argument. Like, we could have a Republican candidate who want to kill off half of the country's population, and a Democratic candidate who want to kill off a quarter, and these people would still argue that doing anything other than voting blue is the same as voting Republican. They treat these elections like they're a trolley problem, but fail to realize that at some point the options become so horrific that you just have to walk away and actually deal with the ones who tied all those people to the tracks.
“You just have to walk away and actually deal with the ones that tied all those people to the tracks.” Damn, I’m definitely going to steal this line.
Joe Biden wants to kill who ?? What population?
These people are under the delusion that Trump is uniquely evil despite how many politicians were supporting him during his insurrection and claims of the election being stolen. Come 2028 when Trump is dead, there will be a new fascist to take his place and we'll be told the same thing. There will always be a boogie man on the Republican side they will use to try and scare the Democrat voters into voting for someone who is further to the right and more evil than the last nominee. It's almost like if you don't want America to become taken over by fascists, you need to go further to the left and actually improve people's lives so they aren't so desperate they're will to go full authoritarian.
What you're proposing isn't going to get you what you want.
This election is not referendum on Israel-Palestine. It is a referendum on American democracy. And the last thing the Palestinians need is a fascist regime in the US to support the one in Israel.

With everything wrong with America I’ve had to step back from the spoon fed agenda and reassess the merits of Capitalism vs Socialism. Of course I thought Socialism and the Communist party were one and the same, not true. I had to learn the history-I had to learn about employee owned worker co-ops, I had to open my eyes how Capitalism serves the few before I could let go of the capitalist mindset. Those in power continue to redirect-divide people all to keep America from waking up to Real issues. Its a long shot but I hope more will awaken before its to late.

Guys, "give us the serenity to accept what cannot be changed, the courage to change what can be changed, and the wisdom to know the one from the other". You are not voting for politicians or a single policy, you vote for a set of policies and the overall direction of the country. It sucks to swallow that pill, but most politicians don't care and are fine either way. Sure, you (not you specific maybe) showed Hillary the finger and i'm sure she hated it, but the "short term pain" price is payed by generations thanks to the supreme court, the rolled back environmental regulations, the development of the Trump cult and all the other fallout to punish that woman. And while you punished her, you rewarded Trump. No matter how you decide, most likely a horrible person profits. So voting or not voting based on an issue where every other party would act even worse - most people who make those kind of decisions, are ignorant or selfish *ssholes who will not pay the price. Ask women in Alabama about that short term pain. Or r*pe victims who have to go through a pregnancy as a constant reminder. Or people who will lose their health care. If Trump wins and i have to endure that stupid rambling in the news for 4 more years, i hope his goons do the worst they can so they show you guys what you get when you want to show them. Politicians don't care, they have their committee positions and connections, but that "equally bad" candidates make a giant difference for millions of normal people and if you vote against their interest, you are selfish or stupid.

Exactly... truth
Keep up the good work 💪🏼
It just seems odd that people are upset about this when all the other wars were ok. I mean what is particularly bad about this one. Between 280,771-315,190 civilians died from direct violent action in Iraq at the hands of the US AND that completely ignores the death toll from indirect actions, environmental poisoning etc... and if you cared you were a traitor. In Afghanistan 70,000 Afghan and Pakistani civilians are estimated to have died as a direct result of the war. Its not even the US doing it directly this time. Yes it is bad but in the scheme of things we have done far worse for far longer and have more blood on our hands than an ocean could wash clean (to paraphrase Shakespeare).
First of all, those other wars you mention were driven by revenge. Americans were attacked directly on US soil. But even as the lies that started those wars dissolved, there's a new phenomen occurring more recently. Are you familiar with quorum sensing? A definition from the national library of medicine is as follows: Quorum sensing is a process of cell-cell communication that allows bacteria to share information about cell density and adjust gene expression accordingly. Now make the analogy to humans. Our "cell-cell" communication has improved in the last 20 years since 9/11. The internet has greatly improved the communication between nations. Culture are melding together and forming new traditions. Covid and the accompanying supply chain disruptions have made it abundantly clear that nations which historically _seemed_ to be enemies are actually mutually dependent on each other for maintaining their standard of living. This "quorum sensing" can be framed as growing empathy. In other words, we are learning from our mistakes and communicating in order to encourage cooperation. We are _quicker_ to recognize a lack of empathy and speak against it than we were a mere 20 years ago. This pattern is promising, and our past failures are not something to be looked down upon. Instead, we should learn from them and recognize that there is more work to be done.
I am surprised that people think democracy can easily be recovered once it is lost.
Democracy is already lost.
Right? So many people are acting like after Trump destroys democracy and installs himself as a dictator, we'll somehow get a chance to vote him out in another 4 years. Like, what? Do they have no brains at all?
This is why we can't have nice things.
What third party is not pro-genocide?
I typically vote Republican but the genocide has made me a single issue voter.
Green party. Jill Stein said publicly that she'll call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
Heck yes they are angry. We have a walking corpse in office who continues to fail us
Fail us? Lmfao! He's been one of the more successful presidents in years!
You obviously watch a lot of fox huh?
For those in the present, it's 100,000k.
This is 5x higher than the any previous historically large amount of uncommitted votes in Michigan
You said it yourself, Trump is Netanyahu’s preferred candidate - why do they think letting him win will help Gaza?
It’s time to stop saying the trolley problem is useless hypothetical - millions of ‘principled’ people are going to let a problem they ‘hate’ get worse in order to not pull the trigger
Thanks!
It's not only that...people are tired of the ball going back and forth and every cycle hearing the same crap.
Mentally, it is draining to support a party that just does not care and takes us for fools
Not fools, just desperate people without a good choice, forced to constantly pick lesser of two evils. The thing is the democrats realize they only have to be slightly less corrupt and awful than the Republicans and people are forced to vote for them because choosing to get punched in the face is better than being shot with a gun. Thanks to corporate media, we've got an ultra radical right-wing party who is willing to go full fascist. And when your main political opposition is basically a bunch of extremist lunatics, you barely even have to put in any effort to promote yourself, you just say "Well I'm better than those guys."
It's what got Biden elected in 2020, his entire platform was "I'm not Trump".
Please direct your attention to project 2025 and tell me how a Trump admin helps Gaza
8:30 Yes, exactly that.
Alone, crazy and trapped in a perpetual nightmare.
Again, as an American Muslim, I would feel responsible in the eyes of all Palestinians and their family if I voted for Biden.
@@Aiel-Necromancer What if I'm against criminalizing being queer like is outlined in Project 2025?
@@thelemae.Then vote uncommitted
@@thelemae. You should only vote for the person that you genuinely support. Voting for the lesser of two evils is what got us into this ugly mess.
@@thelemae. local networking in any way you can. Stop relying on someone or some party that is only putting the hypothetically worst person you can tolerate before you.
"Why is our democracy more important than their lives?"
Exactly, it's not.
How many Americans died to preserve our democracy? How do you change course once you lose it?
Please don’t be played a fool by the bots in the comments section! Vote blue!
That last woman was spitting some absolute heat.
There is a Third opinion people. Kennedy is the Man
I unsubbed from David Packman's channel because he refuses to cover this topic in any meaningful way.
Thank you, Kyle, for continuing to call out the genocide.
Most of Kyles audience will vote for Biden and they’re going to love it
you arent “punishing” an 80+ year old knocking on deaths door by doing that lol he wont have to live in trumps america, you will 😂🫡 yea, these guys are so “thoughtful”
Here's my take. If I thought Trump would be better on the specific issue of Gaza then this would be a serious moral conundrum. Because then you'd really be making a choice about values. Unfortunately in a first pass the post election system, effectively you can either vote against one person or vote against another because not voting for either candidate effectively means you've tacitly supported whoever won. So in that case, if Trump was better on Gaza I would be torn on moral grounds.
That said, in all likelihood Trump would be just as bad so for me this issue is an electoral wash in a general election. It doesn't mean it's morally irrelevant. It just can't be a deciding factor between the two people who are the only ones who will win.
That said, I'm 100% in favor of voting uncommitted in a primary. And I wouldn't blame anyone who lost a loved one if they didn't see this general election as a matter of harm reduction.
We get 2 terrible candidates every 4 years. Kyle 4 President 💯
The issue here is that even if Biden calls for a ceasefire, it means nothing. He would most likely only issue a statement near the election if Michigan looks bad enough and then immediately retract it after winning reelection. Statements mean nothing without action, and as long as supporting Israel benefits US imperialism, action will never happen from any POTUS. On this issue, there is legitimately no lesser evil. And this goes to my broad point that "evil is evil regardless of severity."
Aaron Bushnell.
I'm NOT voting for Binden anymore! The border fiasco is beyond dangerous and bizarre!
There is no border fiasco, dingus. Get your news from somewhere other than Fox.
It’s hypocritical for the establishment to make the “but what about Trump? What about democracy??” If they were truly worried about that then why is Biden their candidate?
Because the people elected him and he’s the incumbent president. Try again
Muslim American from New Hampshire and I am NOT voting for Biden..
Even in New Jersey we are not voting for Biden
I'm sorry but this country is far more important to me than any other one. Period. And putting trump back in charge would be disastrous.
Say what you want but a vote for anyone other than Biden is a vote for trump. Period.
I will not vote against my moral beliefs. I will not vote for a president aiding in the mass murder of innocent citizens, including mostly women and children, in a g-cide. Why is it my responsibility to keep Trump out of office? Why not put the responsibility on Biden for losing the election to Trump?
Not to mention that Trump is actually cozier with Netanyahu than Biden is!
@@jeffreysnyder290 exactly. Not only will the genocide continue with trump but now you've jeopardized this country too.
Not smart.
Being an adult means making tough decisions. And I choose America over Gaza. And I HATE what's going on there. But I'd hate a Trump presidency more.
If you vote for Biden you deserve Trump x10 over.

Ouch.

@@syyner1748 Yup just like Biden. That's why he went against his promise of 1 term. That's why the DNC said no to primaries. Oh and for some reason they do not want to piss off the government of Israel. Of all the possible candidates Biden know he can't beat trump. I will even take our VP over Biden and no one wants her not even Biden.
@@syyner1748Yeah we'll have a lot fun with Trump. That's what jen-o-side joe wants I guess.
Maybe there’s a chance he adjusts if they air this on Morning Joe...
The title of this segment is an understatement.
To the people saying not voting = a vote for Trump: does an actual vote for Trump count as 2 votes?
It's not meant literally. What they are implying is that you are reducing the no of votes that Biden could get and thereby reduce the margin of winning / losing even if Trump doesn't get more votes.
@@rh9133 considering those same people think this uncommitted thing will hand the dem primary to Trump, i think you're overestimating their intelligence
@@1BUVTHALAW1 The thing is we don't know given the fact that a lot of Dems are angry and as you already know Biden's approval ratings were really down for the last few months. On the other side, you have an increasing support for Trump. Nikki Haley got crushed even in her home state. Hence there's a good chance Trump might win. We'll see.
If you have the option to vote uncommitted in the Dem primary, it's your opportunity to push the party to look at an opportunity to replace Biden on the ticket or at least to take seriously that their empty threats to voters have lost their bite.
See I could see that argument except that Trump would do worse with Gaza and Israel.
Nicely done! We won't be rewarding bad behavior!
Remember Kyle said: You are objectively wrong if you like fall and you should be ashamed of yourself...
I’m staying home for sure 🤨
How will this change the situation in Gaza or Palestine?
Staying at home will help exactly how? Or will get it worse?
Questions that these people clearly haven't made to themselves but they are so self-absorbed that they don't care.
Much of the country is about half a click below Aron Bushnell in how we feel!!!! no ceasefire no vote!!!
This is the true failure of electoralism. We keep having to choose one lesser evil after another after another, and the dial still shifts towards evil. You CANNOT TRUST a leader to have your best interest in mind, full stop. The incentives of rulership are different from the incentives of the ruled. The politics you have to play to lead a country inevitably involve moral compromises that the constituency does not support. You can't outsource your best interests. You can't outsource your morality. The only way to live without moral compromise is within a horizontal power structure.
Stop thinking of 'saving democracy' through electing some old idiot who runs on the premise that he's not the other guy. Go local. Build local power and autonomy. Community gardens, housing and worker cooperatives, mutual aid. The more independent your community is the less it can be governed, and in turn the less it has to rely upon systems that treat it as an expendable resource. Rely on consensus-based decisions that subjugate nobody, and everyone's freedom and well-being can be protected.
You want to save democracy? There's an old saying - Anarchism is democracy taken seriously.
Apparently theres abt 300,000 Arab Americans in Michigan
Trump is going to do the same
So I was looking forward to seeing the convention in Chicago, where I was born and raised. Now I'm really looking forward to it since we know we are home to over 100000 thousand Arabs not counting the suburbs😂😂
"I don't know how many Arab Americans are in Michigan."

i got a text from mi democrats saying voting undecided was helping trump ...in a primary 😂.... you know what i had to go do ✊.... they made their bed
And a lot of commentors here are saying the same brainless bs. Primaries are not the general, people really need to learn their civics.
I didn't vote for Biden in 2020 because I knew this is exactly the kind of thing he'd do.
I don't understand so many have trouble comprehending that a lot of people can't be badgered into voting for someone who represents the antithesis of their values.
So the big question is will this even have any meaningful impact on Biden come the election? Even if every last Muslim American changed their vote, at only 1% of the county's population would it matter? I guess there are people outside thet group that care...
I think it's not just the Muslims. The Pro-Palestinian crowd consists of all sorts of ppl including white, black, Jews, LGBTQ as well as the far left / lefty loonies. So collectively it can have an impact. We'll see.
It's not just the Muslim American demographic. People of all race, religion, age and gender are disgusted at how Biden is handling this problem.
It's always a vote between two evils and only one would open the door for Russia to become a super power
The American bourgeois class would never support that. All neo-cons and neo-libs agree in defending the empire and its vassals Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. While TFG postures as being tough against NATO, ultimately his donors and advisors are all pro-NATO. They will all support hostility against Russia, Iran, and China. Ultimately, the empire will collapse regardless of which candidate wins in '24.
