    My dad has the C-46 as one of the many aircraft he commanded in his career. He said it was a solid platform, plenty of power but very sporty in a crosswind; especially on and near the ground.

    Glad you reviewed this. Seems like Aeroplane Heaven is leaning into their bad reputation at this point. No one else has mentioned it so I was hoping you would. Wish they’d allow some sort of civilian version, a duck worth mod, and a paint kit, or a blank white plane. Appreciate the video. Thank you!

      Only good thing AH has given to us in this entire sim is a platform for Duckworks to build an actually good DC-3. Even their free Tri-Motor was a bad value.

    I’d really love to see liveries of the airlines that operated these beautiful aircraft.
    Braniff, Rich International, Capitol Airways, Seaboard World Airlines, Buffalo Airways, and Everts Air Cargo we’re all great airlines that operated the C-46.
    I’m one of few people to probably learn of this aircraft through airlines rather than through it’s military service. Glad it’s in the sim!

    I've been waiting for this airplane. I used it in FS9 and FSX for years and while the model its self was nice, the cockpit was absolutely horrible. I spent so much time hand crafting textures trying to make it better but there was only so much you could do with it. This one is SO much better as far as the looks of the cockpit! I'm looking forward to starting up my fictional air cargo business again! I had so much fun flying to remote areas delivering virtual goods in all types of weather conditions and getting there on time or not. I feel like a kid getting a new toy! Thanks for posting this!

    I love old planes! I liked this plane from AH. Visually the plane is very well made. I'm no expert on old airplane sounds, but this one sounds pretty plausible to me. The sound is quite loud and similar to the rumble that old screw monsters make. I bought it as soon as I saw it. For $10 it's just a gift. I made a quick flight using the checklist. Everything is fine, it quickly started, taxied and took off. I don't know what to complain about. I have not studied this device thoroughly. There are probably some errors and inaccuracies. Which will be fixed later. But for now it's a wonderful old plane, very atmospheric. I don’t understand the negativity of some towards AH. They don't make trainer aircraft. They make replicas of old planes with the opportunity to fly without complicated procedures and feel the charm of that era. Thanks to them for this work! I'm looking forward to their 707! I would also like that they or someone else would make one of the Soviet large aircraft. Of course, I have an An-2 and an AN-225 in my hangar.

    You mention mods for this several times. The problem that we, as modders, have with this (and other local legend/famous flyer series) are that they are paid marketplace-only aircraft and therefore encrypted. ie for the most part, and re: the more important things like flight model, it is unmoddable

    • @paintbox9899
      @paintbox9899 Před 21 dnem

      @@AvAngel the DC-3 was a free addition and therefore unencrypted. Things like the 307 and Beech 18 required both modders to make the files from scratch with great personal effort. So no, it's not impossible, but certain key modders you mention in your video have already said it's not worth their time for encrypted aircraft such as the C-46 and C-47

    I kind of hate that a GPS and some sort of integrated autopilot (my immersion won't accept just workable hot keys) is a requirement for me, but that is needed to suit the style of flying that I like to do. I've missed out on a lot of otherwise great add-ons because of this but I just don't fly the ones without both of these options that I've decided to buy anyways. Juggling the KLN-90B and the antiquated AP in the Comanche is a ton of fun.

  • @payt01
    @payt01 Před 21 dnem +4

    Hmm ok.. seems like typical aeroplane heaven fare. Looks alright, in an aeroplane heaven kind of way. The biggest problem to me is the sounds. They just never get them right. it sounds like they recorded the sounds with a $5,- mic and then went on to shave off any kind of low end it might've had. For some reason Microsoft doesn't seem to like engines that sound like the big booming monsters they often are, as all their planes sound bland like that. Is that some kind of policy or is it incompetence?
    Anyway maybe you can't expect too much for what you pay for it. But like you say, I'd gladly fork out a little more if they applied the finishing touches it needs to be a proper representation of this plane. I remember the DC-3 also being floaty btw.. I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a copy of the same flight model actually, as it's mostly the same plane :)
    btw if you want to hear what the real one sounds like in the cockpit, here you go: czcams.com/video/s71JXA93RhY/video.html&ab_channel=JustPlanes
    Spoiler: it's beast! Not the gnat in a jar Aeroplane heaven turned it into :)

      I absolutely agree. The sound is what makes these old birds so special and fun (aside from the flight model) and this one sounds like... a lady shaver, maybe? It's just too bad.
      This, and the fact that there's no plane I can think of that has proper radial engine start procedures (maybe the DC-6) or corresponding startup behavior (like coughing and refusing and then getting more and more cylinders to join the game). It's always just pressing a button and *brrr* - it's running.

    Worst part is: there will most likely be NO improvement mod unless someone writes the config from the ground up like Denarq did for his Beech 18, or uses cracked files from Simplaza, because it's a marketplace addon. Files are encrypted. You can't adjust flight model and others

    I had some problems with engine start on this C-46 on my live stream today, starboard engine started but I couldn't get Port going. I've since got that part solved. I still need to figure out when to slam on the superchargers since it's not in the manual. I can't get the Gyropilot to power up. It says to fiddle with the hydraulic valve... i cant find it. I CAN find the one in the C-47. I think this one's gonna need some updates. My guess is to turn on the superchargers after the engines come up to full RPM on takeoff, that might help it lug itself off the runway.

    Unpopular Opinion: I don't want a Duckworks mood for this.
    However I do want lazy developers to do better! Or maybe they should change places with Duckworks, and give their shit away for free!
    Aeroplane Purgatory Hell is getting a little better, at least they are updating their aircraft new and old now. They even fixed a bug introduced in SU9 for their P-51, yup, that's 6 SU's ago! I have also heard they are going to have Echo 19 fix the P-51 sound.
    God bless ductworks, but they are only enabling s******* developers. I understand a couple mods, This helps people learn how to do things in the development world and then move on to developing actual aircraft instead of just fixes for other people's s***, but at somepoint we have to quit enabling these sorry devs!!!!!
    I do understand this is only $15.99 or so, but that doesn't mean that the developer should do the least amount possible, they should still do a good job on this aircraft. I mean where the hell have you ever seen tires this shiny? Nowhere that's where.
    I'm not mad, so please don't read this like I'm mad, lol I'm having a great day I just really believe AH needs to step up, organize, finish their products before release etc. I have quite a few of their aircraft and none of them even feel like they're from the same developer there's so many weird bugs and different things wrong or missing from each one.
