How to Disassemble, Clean and Lubricate a Springfield XD or XDm 9mm or XD 45 Pistol
Steps to Field Strip the Springfield XD or XDm 9mm pistol:
    1. Unload the gun
This is the most important step. Eject the magazine using the magazine release button, and then remove the round from the chamber. Remove any and all ammo from the area.
    2. Repeat Step 1. Verify the gun is completely unloaded. This step is in case you skipped step number one.
    3. Lock the slide to the rear using slide stop lever.
    4. Rotate the take-down lever clockwise from the 9 o'clock position to the 12 o'clock position.
    5. Release the Slide Stop and move the slide forward and off of the front of the gun.
    6. Turn the slide upside down and Depress the Guide Rod Toward the Front of the Slide to release from the barrel.
    7. Lift the guide rod and recoil spring out of the slide.
    8. Remove the barrel from the slide.
    Cleaning the Springfield XDm 9mm:
    1. Clean barrel and guide rod. You can clean the inside of the barrel in one of two ways:
    A. Run a Boresnake through the barrel several times.
    B. Using a pistol rod and cloth patches. Wet the patches with Hoppes and using the rod, push wet patches through the barrel until they come out clean.
    2. Clean the feed ramp of the barrel with Hoppes No. 9 solvent.
    3. Use Hoppes Number 9 & a rag or spray with Birchwood Gun Scrubber to clean the recoil spring and guide rod assembly. Wipe any remaining solvent off.
    4. Clean the gun frame. Use Hoppes #9 and a brush or cotton swabs to clean all surfaces of the frame, especially the rails where the slide contacts the frame. Wipe clean with a soft rag.
The best way to clean a polymer frame is to spray it down with Birchwood Casey Synthetic-Safe Gun Scrubber. Use a micro fiber cloth or rag to wipe any excess solvent off of the frame.
    5. Clean the Slide. Use Hoppes No. 9 and a cotton swab or cloth to clean all surfaces on the inside of the slide.
Be sure to get the breech face and extractor.
    Lubrication:
Apply a drop to the following areas:
    XDm Frame Lubrication:
    Rails
    Hammer pivot
    Slide stop
All moving parts in trigger control area
    XDm Slide Lubrication:
    Rails
    Hammer cocking surface
    Firing pin aperture
    Reassemble the XDm 9mm:
    1. Set the slide upside down, put the barrel into the slide. Place the recoil spring assembly on top and press on the end so it fits in the groove on the barrel.
    2. Then line up the slide with the frame and slide it on. Move it to the rear and lock the slide back with the slide lock lever.
    3. Rotate the take down lever counter clockwise to the 9 o'clock position.
    4. Release the slide stop and allow the slide to move all the way forward.
    5. Work the slide back and forth several times to to allow the lube to spread into all areas.
    6. Wipe away any excess oil on the gun.

Hi I need a bit of advice, I was applying oil on the slide of my XD mod2 after cleaning the gun to store it since I wasnt going to use it for a while and I added a drop of oil (just 1 drop) inside the whole in front of the rear sights which I think is the firing pin retaining pin, is that something to worry about or am I just overthinking about it?

    • @davesgunchannel
      @davesgunchannel  Před 2 lety

Agha, thanks for the question! I would not worry about that at all. The worst thing that will happen is that over time any excess oil will attract dirt so just make sure you clean it well after you shoot it. Maybe clean it with Birchwood Casey gun scrubber which tends to get into the nooks and crannies a little better to remove dirt and build up. Just be careful not to get the gun scrubber on your gun sights as it has been known to damage some sights.

      @Metal Injected
Any kind of solvent including spray can solvents are completely unnecessary, unless you are cleaning a black powder gun or using hard cast bullets.all that solvent and using so much as you did is Not good for your gun.
The dry Q-tips to remove excess carbon is good, then using oil in the Q-tips to remove the rest and then again small rags and dry Q-tips to remove excess oil until clean. That gun needs very little oil on its surfaces inside and out,on the slide where metal slides on metal...a dab of Lucas red-n-tacky grease is a lot better than oil because it prevents friction and ware in the long run that will make your gun run and last for a very long time.
Finally, the light oil on the outer surfaces should be wiped down with a microfiber cloth that will make it look great...instead of using paper towels...that was ugly to watch...Sorry.
Things that I only use on all my 1911 models and my Sig P320's
      1. Mobil 1 ATF...lightly to remove all carbon, used oil and grease from the guns and then wipe off,Q-tips and patches/rags...Not paper towels.
      2. Mobil 1 motor-oil, used to clean and lubricate the guns inside and out.
      3. Lucas Red-N-Tacky - a little to lube and protect the Slide and Rails.
Finally,I polish the ramp as well and apply light amount of oil on the outside and wipe down with the microfiber cloth.
I have Done only this for decades,my older guns still look and operate as good as new. When I do go outside to shoot a lot of rounds or go to the range,I add plenty of oil to the barrel to help keep it from excessive heat. I have seen many diff things that people do to their guns that make me cringe, but hey it's a free country.Live and let live.
Good Luck,be safe and have fun 👍😎🇺🇸 God Bless America.
