  • A short video detailing boarding the ship at Limassol cruise port in Cyprus at the start of a week long cruise in the run up to Christmas 2022, along with a walkthrough of the main parts of the ship..
The video does not cover meals and food as this will be in another video that we will post soon.

Thanks for the video! How’s the food and service? We just booked Gate 1 tour for next April …flying to Athens, with 4 nights on this cruise ship

Service is very good and the food is also good. Only issue was a pork chop that was decidedly pink in the middle, but no complaints with the rest of it.

Thanks for your kind words. We were there on the run up to Christmas but weren't there for Christmas itself, but the ship had Christmas trees, decorations and ginger bread houses around the ship. I believe that they also have a different Christmas and New Year menu in the restaurants, along with special parties and entertainment.

Hi thank you for the video of around the ship. I'm considering the 3 continents cruise and would love your thoughts on the ship experience if you have time. I'm a bit concerned about lack of people/entertainment, is this typical do you know? Thanks in advance for any info cheers

Hiya, Crystal is not a big ship so she doesn't have all the things that the bigger, newer ships have, like water slides, go carts, climbing walls and shopping malls. That said, there are activities every day, music and general knowledge quizzes, dance classes, craft lessons and also occasional lectures on a range of topics. In the evening you have a range of restaurants, as well as events like barbecues, Greek nights and so on, held outside by the Helios bar. You have live music in the bars at night as well as two shows per night in the Muses lounge (and most nights it is a different show). We couldn't fault the friendliness and service from the staff and the ship, although older, is kept very clean. She carries a maximum of 1,200 passengers, which is good for the size of the ship. The cruise that we were on crossed over with the start of the eighteen night Christmas and New Year cruise, where the ship did start to get busier, but it is probably worth pointing out that there were very few children on board (possibly a good point for older travellers, but something worth bearing in mind if you are booking for a family). If you are looking to book the cruise because you want to visit the various ports along the way, I think you should be fine. If you just want to enjoy the experience of being on a cruise ship and aren't bothered about going ashore, then it might not be the best choice for you. Can I finish by saying that we booked and paid for our own cruise (good value as the drinks package and gratuities are included, as well as some shore excursions, depending o how long your cruise is) and are not paid or supported by the cruise line in any way and these are our own personal opinions. If you need to know anything else, just shout!

Hi, we had one stormy night but the ship felt quite stable and didn't move around as much as I was expecting. She is only 10 decks high so there is less lateral movement.

Nice ship considering she was built in 1980!

You wouldn't know her age to look at her. She is an older ship but nice, clean and tidy.

she looked like a box in the 80s

She was built as a ferry originally (MS Viking Song/Saga), then burned down in the 90s during dry dock and rebuilt to this. Same machinery since it was untouched by the fire.
