I just started this book. I've been listening to Stephen Fry's Sherlock Holmes collection and decided to finally start his other books as well

Hey Alana: Merry X-mas, and thx for the video. Like most of Americans I do have so familiarity with E. Hamilton's Mythology, and also like most I don't have a great interest in it. However, many years ago a good friend suggested I read R. Graves' The White Goddess, wherein is found his belief in the truth and reality of the Pagan Myths through a concept he calls 'Iconotropism.' Personally, I think it's a distortion of Platonic understanding of the one, true and original thing; however, it does make attractive arguments for accepting myths at least as typical examples of common human dilemmas. Thx again: enjoyed the review.

Merry Christmas (belatedly Lol). Ah, I hadn’t heard of that book. And there is something to be said to read them as a way to understand human nature etc. and thanks!

I mean you're not wrong about Madeline Miller... hahaha I had fun with the books, but pretty much just bc they recalled my love of the percy jackson books growing up, not bc I thought they were revolutionary or like sacred literary texts haha. Have you read any of Mary Renault's books? I have one, and I haven't read it yet. I think I always underestimate how fun a time I have with Greek mythology

LOL! I’m glad you think so haha. Sometimes I feel a bit crazy because people rave about Miller. I get what you mean though - I can see how they can be fun. I haven’t read Renault yet, but I do have one of her books in my shelf - I’ve heard she’s a lot more accurate! Greek mythology is wild 😂

I’ve been putting off reading these because I know I’ll love them! Watching you review the trilogy has got me even more excited to read them. Definitely have to add them to my TBR in the new year. Happy Christmas Alana!🎄

I read the first collection in late summer and it was great fun. Greek Mythology was my favorite course in high school and I really hadn’t revisited it that deeply since then, but it was a fun way to experience it all again. I’ll come back for the full video of I read on from him.
