MEET THE man who literally sees the world upside down - because his neck is folded back on itself. Claudio Vieira de Oliveira, from Monte Santo in Brazil, was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), a rare genetic disease that causes joints in the body to become permanently fixed in a bent or straight position. At birth doctors told Claudio’s mother that he wouldn’t survive for even 24 hours but Claudio, now 45, defied their predictions and has gone on to live a full life as a successful motivational speaker. Although Claudio requires his family’s help with dressing, cooking and washing, he has adapted to life upside down, learning to use his phone with his mouth and walk with the help of special splints he straps beneath his legs. He's now the president of a non-profit organisation alongside his best friend Adnilson - who he considers his "arms and legs" - that works with vulnerable children, giving them haircuts and clothes and giving them time and resources to play.

This is exactly what I think when I see these stories. I have Lupus, but I am able bodied, can do everything for myself, and there are plenty of days that are complete struggles for me. He is an absolute inspiration.

I had to use a cane starting at age 16 and I'm almost 50 now. Plus have had 5 complete joint replacements and foot surgery. All due to RA.
A reminder to me to be grateful and humble. This man struggles everyday with a smile on his face and seems to be living a great life with wonderful people. I have no room to complain about anything.

My heart hurts to think what would happen to him when his mom passes away or if something happened to his brother because they're his sole caretakers. No one will sacrifice or have your back like your own family. I'd hate to see this amazing gentleman get mistreated in a nursing home. That sucks thinking about it. Wishing him warm wishes and love.

Not only did he survive when the doctors said he wouldn’t, but he’s thriving! Getting out there, working, educating others... adapting to maintain his own independence whilst still accepting himself for who he is and not trying to conform or change. Love it.

I’m 55 and have had a lot of bumps in the road along the way. Kidney disease, Kidney transplant, many,many skin cancer surgeries ( over 65 ) but after seeing this fella I feel very lucky! What a strong willed human being! God Bless him he’s so inspirational!🙏🏻
