    Great video, Melissa Backwoods. The Kelly Bevels work well to reduce friction while the wedge splits the wood. Great history of an American, family-owned company. I thought Ontario Knife Co. was the oldest, operating blade company in the US ... oh, contraire ....

    Two axes. Sharp for chopping. Dull for splitting. Swedish Arvika at 4.5 pounds is a nice axe. Northwest Canada I've used the Trojan High Test, hardwood splitting axe. It's an Australian product. 7 pounds with a 7 inch edge. It's what the loggers use in chopping competitions. Please NEVER split wood with a sharp axe. It will cut in too deep and stick. Plus, accidents happen splitting wood. Sharp axe you might bleed out. Dull axe, you might get a serious bruise. Been doing this more than 30 years. Please. Safety First.!

    Awesome my chore list for tomorrow is to use a council tool Hudson bay 23". I've never been interested in axes but a couple months ago the axe bug bites me and there following me home against my wife's wishes and to my boys delight. I have a set routine for testing out a knife or firearm but this video gives me some ideas. Thanks again for great content! Melissa, I use the sand paper method on my axes. And ya better put the “Mask” back on the “Bit”, I usually finish with a 3,000 grit and a Strop, and it’ll shave. A sharp tool is a useful tool, a dull tool is useless tool.
    Good to see ya do a little Bush-Craft, good job,,,,,,,
    God Speed, and see ya at Smoky Mountain Knife Works, or maybe the “House Mountain Trail”.

    Thank you for introducing Warwood Tool Company of which I was not aware. Please don't split wood without some kind of chopping block. As you split the wood, the axe continues through into the gravel & rocks often with terrible damage to the axe head cutting edge.

    In order to protect yourself and the blade (to avoid hitting rocks)
    Tip: place the wood as you stated to the correct height, (no short cuts).
    Then place a "safety roll", (that is shorter than the target roll).
    If you miss intended "target rool", or "skip of the roll" the "safety roll" will catch the strike.
    I developed the technic to teach new ax(e) kids (Safety First), a modification from the "Crazy Russian" channel (who lays a smaller longer log "sideways" between target roll and ax(e) swinger).
    Enjoy the tip and pass it on.

    • @Roqjoru
      @Roqjoru Před měsícem

      Oh by the way, I think you could handle a Helko 4lbs racing ax(e) if you had to. Thus a good reason to protect the sharp edge.

    You got pretty good form just read your wood honey every piece of wood has a natural grain split in the center of it once you find that sweet spot the natural split that's the spot you want to set your axe into. Read the sides of your Woods you don't want to be splitting where there's knots you want to avoid that as much as possible it's more feasible to take the natural split and it was split a lot easier . God bless you and by the way you look hot in that flannel shirt oh my my God Bless America honey🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙊🙉🙈✌✌✌✌✌👏👏👏👏😏
