Playing through the Blue Mun scenario, from building the launch vehicle all the way through to landing the probe on the mun. Edited from the March 27th livestream on / szyzyg
If you are headed to the big island, see if you can get on one of the English tours of the Subaru telescope. When we went it was the only tour that was offered, because the Japanese government requires that their tax-payer funded telescope be tour-able. We got to see so much, including one of the mirrors being polished/cleaned, and we got to go on the catwalk outside the telescope. We were above the clouds and the top of Mauna Kea looks like you are on the surface of Mars. Our tour guide was awesome and kept throwing shade at the fancy pressurized facility across the way housing the Gemini telescope. You can also check out the Keck observatory, but they don't give tours (at least they weren't when I was there) and just have a small viewing room to look at the inside of the telescope. You'll need to rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle to go up to the telescopes, but there are places that will do 1 day rentals of 4 wheel drive trucks for a reasonable price. The visitor center before you head up the road to the telescopes also brings out a bunch of telescopes at night if it's clear and you can observe one the most unspoiled views of the night sky in the world. You can get to the visitor center with any old rental car. Also, if you do go to tour the telescopes, I'd recommend acclimatizing at the visitor center for an hour so you don't get altitude sickness at the 13,000ft summit. We packed a lunch an ate it at the visitor center which was a good excuse to stop, oxygenate our blood, and stay hydrated before going the extra 5000ft to the summit. Highly recommend the whole experience!
Scott, since you love math so much, would you be interested in doing a video to show the amount of math, formulas, and variables required to calculate the reentry of a decaying satellite. With Tiangong 1 expected to burn up on April Fool's Day, this would be an interesting video. I keep forgetting some calculations including how periaposis falling on the day side or night side affects the rate of decay.
Sorry Scott, I won't be seeing you in Hawaïï as that is pretty much the other side of this globe to where I live, but I hope you have an interesting visit over there, and we'll be looking forward for any videos of your telescope-visits and maybe the re-entry of Tiangong-1. Cheers!
Tommie Berkers stock RSS should not be a DLC. It’s already in a mod and they would be dumb to make people pay for it. I honestly don’t want them to add any DLC’s nor do I need them
Albin Liungman i think i'd actually pay for it to see them implement it properly I mean yeah anything can be added with mods but generally speaking a DLC is of higher quality then a mod
Tommie Berkers true. I do agree that it would be awesome as an endgame sorta thing. If they do it I hope they manage to make earth have a tilted axel and not a tilted solar system(I know it’s the same but right now map mode in RSS is a bit hard to navigate in)
good point on the navball -- I've noticed it also. Plus the icon is quite odd. They should just use the same target/anti-target icons used for space objects.
One question I have is whenever you are circularizing your orbit or performing corrections, why don’t you right click on the apoapsis and periapsis and things like ascending and descending nodes so that way it pins them so they don’t disappear whenever you move your mouse away? That way, you could check your apoapsis and periapsis at the same time without moving your mouse, and the same for various other nodes that you have to check constantly.
So glad to see the quality Making History content! Not having the money to foot the bill for the expansion, I'm really glad that my favourite KSP CZcamsr is uploading some of the finest quality content on the site.
Xavthewhovian remember to double check your account. Early accounts came with free updates, and I know a number of people who forgot how long ago they bought their copy.
4:00 Okay. Glad there was an explanation. I was wondering if there was something seriously wrong with the graphics or... I'm just a hell of a lot more tired than I thought I was.
Are the new Making History missions available during career mode, or only through the main menu like the training scenarios? Cause I thought they'd be integrated in with the stock contracts similar the Historical Missions contract mod (which I absolutely love!)...
HEY SCOTT!!! I got a himble bundle that contained this game... after watching for a year i was able to make a first landing during the tutorial while knowing things were going good without reverting a million times
NASA deliberately crashed Apollo hardware into the Moon. The shock-waves were measured by seismographs to understand more about the Moon's composition. These devices could hear the bangs, but not quite in the way you are thinking.
FUN FACT: you can hear stuff in space, but not all. if you bang two thing into each other, then yeah, there's no medium for the sound vibration to go through, BUT if an explosion occurs, the explosion makes it's own medium(if you don't know how explosions work). (not exclusive to explosions)
Space is not a vacuum so yes you would also are real moon is blue NASA only shows black and white photos if you look at the photos from china's Chang and jade rabbit photos the moon is blue
Well, the way the goo is meant to work is that when you open the container (i.e. do the experiment), you observe how the goo reacts and travels in the current environment. At least thats my assumption since the science text reads "The goo escapes into the water" if you do it whilst landed in the ocean.
MrSearker sure, and the flavor text could read that it releases flying unicorns... but since in the actual game nothing happens other than a door slides open, its a pretty bad mission description. Most people in the KSP forums were decoupling goo from their craft and wondering why they failed the mission. Lets hope its part of the mission improvements that came with 1.4.2 just now.
Question from a fellow countryman, do you ever miss Alba? I want to emigrate to Canada myself sometime soon, hopefully! Love your content, I enjoy learning stuff from your vids, cheers!
To anyone who didn't buy KSP already: It's in the monthly bundle at Humble Bundle with RUINER and Dead Rising 4 (and more to come) for just $12 and you support charity :)
I have a love-hate relationship withe the move widget on one side it's nice to freely move parts around, but on the other side if you click the arrow it jumps the part you want to move causing it to be of center slightly you can't see it but it makes rockets spin, and planes veer of to one side because i sunk the landing gear into the body a bit, this should be fixed but it still isn't :(
Hey scott, this is slightly off-matter but im also a big fan of aviation... Y play "condor soaring sim" and there s a couple of pdf called "condor s corner" written by scott manley. There says that he had studied mats and computer science (too much coincidence??) Resuming have you written it??? Sorry for the bad english
just watch the video. If you are landing a rocket-like craft, and you are aiming for a navigation target, in the navball you don't see anything. That's because when you are landing a rocket, the nozzle is "watching" the navigation marker and you are watching the opposite, so you don't see the marker in the navball and you can't land accurately
Can you tell the developers to fix KSP EE for us poor console players? Seriously, still no physical timewarp in space, Ion Thrusters and Nuclear rockets are effectively useless due to this issue. Thank you.
They can't fix the biggest issues with the console release due to technical limitations, your issues with no physical time warp is nothing compared the the horribly tiny stock solar system.
Especially if you could find a real rocket scientist who would help with the Mixology. That would get you some marketing, Introducing Rocket Fuel made by a real rocket scientist. :)
If there was a Scott Manly beer it would be called "I'm Scott Manly, fly sober."
"Do as i say, not as i do"
"The Flying Scotsman" already taken, huh?

Scott your videos are amazing! The topics and everything... Congratulations!!!!
Factoid? Wright on.
Evidently not

That could be fun.
Woo all my favorite channels releasing videos back to back
Another Scott Manley video! Thanks for the content, Scott!

"Put these on my upper stage engines" **SNIFF**
Just once I'd like to see you land _not_ on your shadow.
Actually, nevermind; the inverted landings fit that description.
Scott what would you think about a dlc introducing new solar systems and new futuristic parts?
Tommie Berkers stock RSS should not be a DLC. It’s already in a mod and they would be dumb to make people pay for it. I honestly don’t want them to add any DLC’s nor do I need them

What if it was a sequel instead, developed by Star Theory? And called KSP 2? ;)
Cool video Scott!
good point on the navball -- I've noticed it also. Plus the icon is quite odd. They should just use the same target/anti-target icons used for space objects.
I love this channel so much I play Kerbal space programme

Great vid
The "blaming on the boogie" thing totally got me!!!
I appreciated the MJ reference.

RealLuckless I bought my account during 1.0.4... was that early enough? Also, Making History is the paid DLC, but I'm playing stock 1.4.
KASA darn.
4:00 Okay. Glad there was an explanation. I was wondering if there was something seriously wrong with the graphics or... I'm just a hell of a lot more tired than I thought I was.
These videos only come out once in a blue moon :)
Specific Rim Uprising, in theatres now.
NeedsMoreBoosters which one in the series is it you’ll need to be more pacific
Rtf54 r/wooooosh
You saw me standing alone....
Are the new Making History missions available during career mode, or only through the main menu like the training scenarios? Cause I thought they'd be integrated in with the stock contracts similar the Historical Missions contract mod (which I absolutely love!)...
"You should not take me as an example of a good human being." - Oh but I do, and that's partly why I sub.
maybe you should do a new series, recreating the actual missions from sputnik, to the moon, to the ISS, and to Mars.
Another successful performance by the Blue Mun Group...
My current assumption is that 'accuracy' of 85 means that your various specified orbital parameters fall within the interval of [0.85*,1/0.85*].
HEY SCOTT!!! I got a himble bundle that contained this game... after watching for a year i was able to make a first landing during the tutorial while knowing things were going good without reverting a million times
Blue Mun, you saw me standing alone, without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own..
Scott you come to Hawaii as soon as I move away! Well if you come to New Mexico in the next year let me buy you a beer!
Special whatsoever happened! (10:50)
You wouldn't hear the explosions on the Mun, would you?
If your close enouph to get the gas shock wave made, you could still "Hear" the waves
NASA deliberately crashed Apollo hardware into the Moon. The shock-waves were measured by seismographs to understand more about the Moon's composition. These devices could hear the bangs, but not quite in the way you are thinking.
Kerbals can hear through zero matter
FUN FACT: you can hear stuff in space, but not all.

Funny how “release mystery good” in the mission briefing actually means “transmit a goo report” in the mission.
Well, the way the goo is meant to work is that when you open the container (i.e. do the experiment), you observe how the goo reacts and travels in the current environment.
At least thats my assumption since the science text reads "The goo escapes into the water" if you do it whilst landed in the ocean.

Looks like a 1950's sci-fi knuckle dragging robot.
This fella likes B5, how can I not like his videos ;)
You make this look so easy. I struggle to get anywhere near mun. I once almost landed but missed it by 100,000 miles lol
...
Once you enter sphere of influence you have to slow down in order to be captured. There’s plenty of tutorials out there.
Question from a fellow countryman, do you ever miss Alba? I want to emigrate to Canada myself sometime soon, hopefully! Love your content, I enjoy learning stuff from your vids, cheers!
I miss some things, but in a world where communication is so easy I never lose touch.
Blue Munday
“Specific Rim Uprising”
TheDankAtheist “Semi Major Uprising”
Specific Rim!
i sure would'nt have blamed it on the moon light thats for damn certain

Hi scott i love your videos
Hawaii, nice.
I have a love-hate relationship withe the move widget
on one side it's nice to freely move parts around, but on the other side if you click the arrow it jumps the part you want to move causing it to be of center slightly
you can't see it but it makes rockets spin, and planes veer of to one side because i sunk the landing gear into the body a bit,
this should be fixed but it still isn't :(
TheDutchGuy110 move tool is best used with angle snap turned off.
"Specific Rim" sounds great
(You speaking sound like that)
The looks suspiciously like a sour from DFH. Sea Quench...
handbrake turn in space? you mean a crazy Ivan?
i wonder if there are objects in KSP that doesn't show you on the map of space. like hidden eggs.
I'm in Hawaii. I don't have anything cool to show you space-wise, but I'll buy you a beer or two while you're here.
Scott, you should totally view the game Space Flight Simulator on IOS or android.
These explosions on the Mun are also a bug. Do tell them that.
YOU SAW ME STANDING ALONE
WITHOUT A DREAM IN MY HEART
WITHOUT A LOVE OF MY OWN
PRIVATE DOMICILE

is there a mod that changes the making history tech tree?
What up Scott
the lack of the "anti-navigation" marker kills me every time, the devs have never tryed to land something, they don't even know theyr game
just watch the video. If you are landing a rocket-like craft, and you are aiming for a navigation target, in the navball you don't see anything. That's because when you are landing a rocket, the nozzle is "watching" the navigation marker and you are watching the opposite, so you don't see the marker in the navball and you can't land accurately
you can't. That's why it is irritating, it seems like it's a very basic thing to change
Did you quit making galileo conquest?
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy... I bet Hawaiian Doug is gonna be awesome! There will be a Hawaiian Doug? Won't there..?
Come to Melbourne, Australia
Luke Dawson I don’t think anyone should come to Melbourne and I live here
Hey, I live near melbourne, and while it's not great, at least it's not Sydney.
Ugh.
Scott I live in the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Which island are you going to?
Big island, was on Oahu 3 years ago.
I hope your trip to the big island goes well. I have not been there but I always hear great things.
I can't be the only one bugged by the egregious misuse of Russian letters
What island in hawaii you going to.
I expected Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday. I am disappoint.
Black Kerbin
hello scott are you using mods in this video?
CrashPhilia he isn't
Scott is coming to Hawaii!!! Which island though Oahu or the Big Island (also known as Hawaii)?
Big Island!
I need to see volcanoes.
I live a bus ride away from there so itd be cool to see you there.
Scott Manley ^
Scott Manley commenting this in the hope you read his comment
Why is the landscape blacked out in your KSP?
Mr_Doublebutt Some kind of OBS bug, he had the same issue for the last KSP video...
Cause it is night time?
Nah. It is not supposed to look like that. Why would the water still be blue too in that case?
He says about it at 3:59
He talks about it around 3:54
4:40 - Why always blame it on the bug? Why not on the Pinto, or the Corvair, or the mark one Prius?
When will you do gallileo conquest again
Aiden Mizhen He won’t, he’ll likely make a whole new series. Mods got buggy and outdated.
Did you call?
The Soyuz booster
What’s with the dark terrain?
Alex Landherr Just a bug.
Do you miss Ireland scott?
0:35 have you even seen it yet
Hey scott
What happened to Galileo Conquest? You're not much of a Conquistador if you can't even conquer a CZcams series! What happened?
Baxter Bugs, Glitches, mods being outdated, etc. Expect a new series, he probably won’t ever go back.
My mates in hawwiiii
Why can't we just get a dlc for planetary bases and space station's. Or more efficient rocket engines
You have The same problem as me with recordin Black grass
Hey you didnt say fly safe this time. I will blame you if Jebediah dies
15:58 so they make you beta test? :C
Can you do one video in which you only in the scottish accent?
>using the brown intro on a KSP vid
you're doing it wrong
Can you tell the developers to fix KSP EE for us poor console players? Seriously, still no physical timewarp in space, Ion Thrusters and Nuclear rockets are effectively useless due to this issue. Thank you.
kefkaZZZ Save some money, buy a PC.
