    I have seen wood sword work but I must say that yours is by far exceptional, beautiful work.
    I would love to see if in the possibilities how you would make a Rapier (one of my favorite swords).
    thank you for your hard work and for sharing with us.

      Thank you for the kind words. I've also wanted to make a Rapier, and for sure it would be challenging, and I imagine only possible with some careful wood-bending to achieve the detailed hilt. I do hope to make and share one someday.

    Have you tried laminating 3 thin layers together for the blade?
    This would help to strengthen the blade and keep it straight.
    It could add an interesting detail if different color woods are used.

    Hi, i have made a lot of wooden swords, all of them with hand tools, i am getting a workshop with machines soon tho, i really like your content, and would love to see some more videos where you not only make swords, but also try to explore the best way of making them more durable, if one wants to use them for fencing. A technique i want to try myself, when i get my planer up and running, is to laminate the swords like in your gladius video, but put some thought into the wood species i choose, and laminate my swords in several layers of up to 3 wood species, with different hardness, and flexibility properties, to create a good balance so that the sword does not break as easily, for example the edge made of Ipe (which i hoarded some planks of), and the sides made of medium hardness wood, like ash or teak meant for bows. Enough rambling about swords now tho, another thing i would love to see you make, is a community server on a platform like FB or Discord where wooden sword enthusiasts would be able to share their progress, ideas and templates, i have been thinking about making one myself, but its quite a niche thing, and its hard to gather a large group, that would be much easier for you to do. Anyways, if you have any videos coming up, im looking forward to them. Kind regards from denmark :)

    • @GeeksWoodShop
      @GeeksWoodShop  Před 2 lety +1

      Awesome to hear you are upgrading some of your tools soon. Mine has been a 20 year journey building up the tools. I agree with you, laminating several boards should be a great way to add strength. I appreciate the vote for making some HEMA or other contact worthy swords, I don't practice myself, but have made a few that should work for contact sparing. I probably don't have the personality to keep a Discord going, but I appreciate the vote of confidence all the same, thank you very kindly for your thoughtful words. Cheers!!
