I love Divide. You can FEEL Salem's hate and vitriol for Ozpin. It's also like Sacrifice, in that it's a song you should revisit every volume to see how it's meaning evolves with every new bit of lore you get.
Also, in case it wasn't obvious, Salem's fairytale inspiration is the Wicked Witch of the West.

In regards to divide, they've cut off their ability to communicate with the other kingdoms by the end of volume 3, and the last thing the other kingdoms saw was Atlas attacking innocents and a bunch of other stuff like that. So they've effectively prevented any reliable way of working it out through words quickly, allowing the time for doubt to grow.

1:46:12 No need to apologize. This song hits way too close to home for anyone who's lost a really close good friend or family member way before their time. Which is probably just about everyone over 20 or maybe even younger. I, for one, tear up slightly every time it comes on. As it brings up memories of a particular friend. It's just a natural human reaction. And to the few people who would give Beef grief about it because they don't understand; While I hope you'll learn some empathy, I sincerely hope you don't get to the point where you fully understand anytime soon. Because I wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone, and you're luckier than you know to have made it this far without it.

(Spoiler free) There's a few times this happens, and I love it.
For example, after finishing Volume 3 and listening to Divide, is the first time that Sacrifice from Volume 2 gets recontextualized. Since Divide talks about (ostensibly) Ozpin sacrificing people for his goal, and Sacrifice is someone (ostensibly Cinder) saying they refuse to be sacrificed for someone's goal.
It made people think Cinder was someone Ozpin used and discarded at some point, and she bore him a personal grudge, or that she was a freedom fighter in the classic "the bad guys are actually the good guys" trope.
The speculation each volume is such fun.

When It Falls: Yeah the sheer guts of this song in terms of 'We're warning you! It's gonna get baaaad' is kinda amazing (can be oddly hilarious once you get past the v3 pain and it finally clicks that we were so used to 'dark edgy' songs in the OSTs seemingly having nothing to do with the show that we discounted them being as the literal warnings as they absolutely were intended to be, but that might just be me~ XD)
Damn if I don't love the twisted call backs to Red like Roses part (Red once more being compared to blood, white going from snow to eye whites, black from a 'beast descending from shadow' to being swallowed by them, and yellow not burning with inner light but actual fire), and I'm pretty sure the 'picture' all four twisted up like that make is Cinder: red theming on her clothes, very pale white skin, black hair and burning yellow eyes + her wording in the broadcast being referenced by the song (in show: "This was not a tragedy. This was not an accident. This is what happens when you place your trust, *your safety* in men that in the end, are nothing more than men". In 'When It Falls': "This was not tragedy, not an accident. You placed your faith in fools now you'll smoother in lament").

On Mirror Mirror part 2, I'm a bit surprised you didn't comment on it, but about the line:
"Some believe in fairy stories, and the ghosts that they can't see.
I know that I could do so much, if I could just believe in me."
It is pretty intuitive so maybe I don't need to say anything, but I love the concept of "if people can even believe on the supernatural, how can I not believe in something I already know?"
It's such a good and creative way to put insecurity, it's the idea that she has confidence in herself, but at the same time doesn't believe in her abilities.
I guess maybe I just love this line so much because I think it fits me perfectly too. I'm someone who is very confident in my abilities, maybe even to the point of being arrogant. But for some reason I never really manage to accomplish things like I'd expect to, and those repeated failures make me feel like I can't do anything. It's a strange feeling, I can honestly feel like I'm amazing at something while at the same time have no faith in actually doing it properly.
In a way, how good I am at the things I fail at just makes me feel even more pathetic than someone who's bad at it, it makes those failures seem inexcusable.
Anyways, that's the problem with Weiss songs, they make you get super introspective every time you listen to them.

"I'm the one who was ripped from the earth and exposed to the sun"
While it probably has more meaning than that, my first interpretation was that "ripped from the earth" alludes to him loosing his legs and "exposed to the sun" would be him being taken under Cinder, who is usually represented by something related to fire in these songs like "burning" or "embers".

The problem with the song for Cinder's little goons is that it is entirely undeserved. True, Emerald could run circles around any human foe without them knowing she was even there. But Mercury...a dude with metal gun-legs? whose greatest attack is in-world impossible, seeing as how he has NO way to control the shots once they're out? He's arguably a bigger joke than Jaune. I just cannot take him seriously. (and if peeps tell you Emeral can fool grimm...don't believe them. there is NO proof of this. Just because they don't care to react, don't mean they don't see her. If nothing else, she would be chock full of fear for them to sense. so the fact the thing did not react means it probably knew to identify her, as well.)

Actually, Mercury's trick ISN'T impossible by in-world standards. But the info on what makes it possible is only found in the World of Remnant videos. And even then you have to put disparate bits of info together for it to make sense. So...

World of Remnant: Dust says that Dust can be activated and controlled with Aura, although doing so requires a great deal of mental discipline that's rare in modern Remnant. The ammo used in guns such as Yang's gauntlets and Mercury's legs use Dust, Ergo, Mercury's ability to control his shots after firing them is a result of him mastering the discipline of Dust control, and what Mercury does with his shots is really no different from what Cinder and Glynda did when tossing shit at each other in Episode 1 of Volume 1.

I believe that "fall in love with you" song Is actually Is Neptune singing to Weiss. I couldn't possibly imagine Jhune saying "you totally rock, you're wicked, and cool" To anybody. Also there's A-line where the Person talks about a type of champagne which I highly doubt Jhune would be familiar with. Neptune cares about his image "cool" And since he is such a "lady's man" I'm sure he'd know a lot about champagne.

I think it fits Sun and Blake most though… The personality is very Sun and he clearly has a thing for Blake… That’s the obvious option, in my opinion… He’s not high class, but he seems relatively knowledgeable, so he might know about champagne… Or Neptune told him? I don’t know… I think Neptune is more focused on himself… I definitely don’t think Neptune makes sense.

With the Delusions and Illusions thing... The best I can come up with off the top of my mind is that Illusions are crafted by someone else and affect a larger population(The illusion of free will, if you've ever heard that old saying before, for example), and Delusions are crafted by the mind of a single individual, and only affect said individual.
Emerald's Semblance seems to lean more towards the Delusions side of things, except she forces those delusions onto people for a time. Though, even if it were illusions, the way it works definitely fits more into the delusions space again. Why? It seems to fuck up the individual's logical and critical thinking skills whenever it's used on them. Otherwise, there is no excuse, with how we saw it in the show, for Pyrrha to have reacted the way she did. She SAW those swords just APPEAR out of thin air for no reason. For all intents and purposes, she should not have panicked. She should have been able to realize something is wrong, and just accept the defeat. If she was thinking rationally and didn't have her ability to think clearly being tampered with by Emerald's Semblance, that is.
But, that's just a theory, and the reality is more than likely sloppy communication between the writing/animation teams. Still, it's an interesting thought, and actually makes Emerald much more terrifying. It also explains why she went for her and not someone like say, Neo, who's illusions are way more useful.

    • @PerishingPurplePulsar
      @PerishingPurplePulsar Před 11 měsíci

I looked it up to make sure
Illusions are something wrongly percieved or interpreted by the senses; so optical illusions (Pretty obvious lol), that trick where people make you think your arm is a dummy arm and then hit it, or phantom sense over VR games.
Delusions are a peculiar self-deceptive belief firmly maintained despite being contradicted by reality or rational argument, usually caused by some form of mental disorder; so the people in zombie stories who keep their zombified loved ones heads in a bag, or the king sitting in his castle while the kingdom is invaded refusing to call for aid.
There seems to be some overlap between the two, with something like a hallucination being either depending on the persons willingness to accept it wasn't real.
In the case of Emerald, I think that when Coco thought she saw Yatsu but then was shown he wasn't there, she immedietly became aware that he was never there in the first place, so an illusion. On the flip side, after Yang attacks Mercury, she refuses to believe that he didn't attack her (Which was the reality) despite seeing the replay herself, so a delusion (at least until Yang comes to terms with it, but I'm not sure if a delusion that is cured retroactively becomes an illusion or not, so maybe not?)

about Weiss; She is not afraid to sing these songs in public. presumably her father does not care to react. It's just noise to him. as for why he restrained her; surely you know that 'certain things' are expected of the 'higher born' of society? and other things, correspondingly, are frowned upon.

Not Fall in Love With You can't be Jaune, not only because of context but mainly wording.
The way the lines are written are absolutely not Jaune-like in the slightest, but they definitely sound like the way Sun talks. Just look at lines like "You totally rock, you're crazy and cool" or "You're my PYT, my cherie amour", those are absolutely not things Jaune would ever say.
And there is the context too. The lyrics don't fit Jaune in any point through the series, he wasn't into Pyrrha at the start and when he started to be, he was already noticed that she was into him. There was never a point Jaune would feel like he should conceal his feelings for her

If Emerald's semblance was illusory, everyone in the stadium would have seen what Yang saw and it would not have had the same effect. But since she only effects the mind of her target, it causes delusions. No one could believe Yang because they all watched her just attack Smercury for no good reason. Honestly Em's semblance is one of the most busted in the show.

    Comment 2:
Mirror Mirror Part 2: Weiss's songs do indeed progress along with her character, to the point you can sort of track their progress in universe: Mirror Mirror being her in v1 when she was still self isolating and judging, Mirror Mirror part 2 around v2 and the early parts of v3, and then shifting fulling into It's My Turn in fits and starts after that (though the song in show plays in a fight before MMp2 does~ XD).
And yeah that 'her self reflecting' fits, though there's also of course the actual Snow White referencing; from what I understand a core part of the design for all our team RWBY girls is that they have elements of both their title fairytale girl AND said fairytale's villain so Ruby is both the innocent cute girl but also has 'wolf like' eyes and that black neck ruff, Weiss is both the sweet, singer Snow White and the vain, judgemental stepmother/witch, Blake is both the Beauty and a bit beastly, and Yang is Goldilock but has a 'bear like' build with her gauntlets giving her 'claws' in a way.
So... Yeah. When Wiess is asking the mirror stuff she's kind of taking the role of the evil stepmother talking to herself but is trying to self reflect healthily on all the stuff good or bad in her head rather than an attempt to ego trip and excuse her jealousy of others.
Well the context of that "I'm might change it all" is right after she was talking about her doubts and loneliness so logically it's an indication she's finally starting to feel hope~ XD
n show too, they specifically have this playing as her dad tries ringing her and she very deliberately hangs up and smiles, so to Weiss... Hanging up on her dad must be the conscious choice to no longer be filled with doubts and loneliness anymore.
Divide: You might be a tad overly optimistic but that's not inherently bad; just. Keep in mind that for all hope WILL eventually win, there can and often is a shit ton of despair and death that happens first and people do struggle to have the hope needed to overcome stuff (plus, you know. On a microscale, abuse and despair take the lives of innocent people all the time and corrupt/mess up even more; it's why stories, and heroes and people who have hope and work hard trying to fix those things matter so very much

Opening 3 - OH GOD, SHIT IS GOING DOWN!
Opening 4 - Shit sucked... Everything sucks...
Opening 5 - Ok, I'm over the shit now. Now we're gonna kick ass!
Opening 6 - Scrap that, it still sucks. But we'll just keep moving forward!
Opening 7 - Yeah, it's all good, we'll definitely manage it somehow!
      Opening 8 - No we won't! Nothing's good! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!
Opening 9 - Where can I find therapy again? I don't feel so good...

Also note that the song was introduced originally in V1 it has possible ties to all of the first 8 volumes so again as Cinder said in the beginning….. “You’ll know what you need, when you need to know it.” It will all make sense. Rewatching the Vol 3 opening is super rude when you notice the imagery with the words. When they are all falling holding hands, Pyrrha is the first to let go an fly off. It hurts every time.
Mercury talks more about his Father and their relationship in the future. "Defiled by a Father" doesn't refer specifically to SA, but is something along the same vein. Keep it in mind for a few seasons. As a chronic rewatcher of this damn show, the music and the foreshadowing for things is INSANE and literally right in front of your face the whole time. No matter how amazing you may be at story telling or writing or production whatever's, there are just some things that people will forget about or not notice until they watch the whole thing over again. It blows my mind every time I learn something new
Weiss' father is the scum of the earth. I have never hated a character in a show more then I have hated him 🙂🙃🙂🙃 I did enjoy your Superman rant ☺️
BlackSun is a good ship, and I would not be mad about it. However, I love me some Bumblebee. Sun is a great guy and an amazing friend to Blake. He deserves to have someone love him like he loves Blake, but I just don't see her having the same feelings for him. They are great tho. For the song I see it as more of a puppy love then a hard earned love born from growing through pain and becoming better people.
I think you nailed it with Weiss and the Mirror. I haven't watched RWBY Queendom yet (yeah call me a fake fan whatever lol) but from what I have heard the anime is much more Weiss centered and something about "Nightmare" characters but idk lol

People communicate, but the way things were arranged, things are pretty bad at this point.
People around the world were watching the Vytal tournament, then after the revelation that Atlas, who had already occupied a foreign country, Vale, with lots of soldiers, warships, and mechs in the name of 'security', have secret robots disguised as young teenagers, only to see Atlas robots gunning down innocent civilians in the streets during a Grimm attack before before all communication across the world it cut off, leaving everyone in the dark. The Kingdoms can't communicate with each other anymore outside of physical mail and letters through Grimm-infested land, and it really looks like Atlas took the opportunity to attack Vale after their secret was exposed.
People can try to talk all they want, but aside from Atlas admitting to gross negligence that resulted in the death of tens-to-hundreds of thousands of people, things look very bad for them in the eyes of the other nations.

My own reasoning is that Jaune was head over heels for Weiss and Phyrra wasn’t even in his radar until the end so doesn’t make sense for it to be Jaune…this is in perspective of the guy and lyrics makes sense and also not make sense for Jaune to Pyhrra as well as Sun to Blake.

1:37:35 "You're banking on people actually not having proper communication skills and that's not how life works. People communicate"
Actually not, I 100% disagree with that will all my being.
You'd be surprised by how much people do NOT do that. Baking on people not having proper communication skills is actually a really good call, it's extremely likely to pay off.
The thing about humans is that while they can be incredible and unbelievably competent, there is a MASSIVELY bigger number of utterly incompetent and useless people around them.
It might be extremely hard to stop one person from accomplishing something, but as soon as there's multiple people working on one thing, it becomes infinitely more likely for it to go wrong. The more people there are the more unstable they become, it's just how things naturally go.
If there's one thing I learning in my life and one thing that every new experience I have cements more and more, is that in a general and broad sense, people as a whole are always FAR more incompetent than you'd expect them to be.
You mentioned conspiracy theories before and they are a great example, just look at the sheer number of people who fervently believe the stupidest of things.
Everything you try to look at things in a larger scope, it's clear that somehow people are MUCH dumber than anyone would expect. That is why propaganda works so unimaginably well, it's why political campaigns make so little sense. And it's also why Cinder's speech in the Vytal festival worked so well.
It's actually hard to believe how many things in this world could be solved with simple conversations and weren't.
The same can be said for how many things are so easy to solve in principle but so impossible in practice simply because the masses cannot ever follow logic. If you say something to a huge number of people, most people WILL NOT understand what you said at all, regardless of what it is, that is as certain as the laws of physics.

heres what i gotta say bout divide : i think he missed some of the points but whatever. the point of the song is to tell that salem WILL win, period. and she doesnt view her actions on the road to victory as evil or wrong. this is a song from salem to ozpin, so it makes sense that salem sees ozpin training countless young people to fight in a secret war, without them knowing, and a war they wont win, thus sending innocent children to die for a lost cause, and salem thinks that what ozpin is doing is infinitely more evil than what shes doing. salem believes what she is doing is the nature of things, they way it MUST be, and that ozpin is literally fighting nature, the natural order of things and is wasting lives on a futile effort, which just furthers her own ideas of what ozpin is as a person, thus reinforcing her own beliefs in herself and what shes doing. its kinda like what thanos said "it was never personal, but i am going to enjoy wiping your annoying planet from existence".
i still think the beef interpreted the lyrics mostly wrong, he got some right but didnt truly get the point of the song, its not a villain saying "im going to attempt to do this and hope it works out" its THE villain saying "this is whats going to happen and you cant do anything about it because its already to late and partly your fault" salem thinks shes right...and she is. nothing that is said during this song or her speech at the end of vol 3, she is 100% right and nothing stated is wrong.
salem believes she is a force of nature, one that cannot be stopped, and sometimes, as long as you believe you can do something or that you are something, is enough. salem knows that its wat easier to corrupt and sow mistrust, doubt and spite amongst the populace than it is to rally them behind a single, common cause. salems major bet is that she bets on basic human/faunus nature, to be distrustful, warry of outsiders, violent and stubborn. its way easier to cause negative emotions than positive ones, hence why the grimm being attracted to negative emotions is a possible world ending threat, because you cant just cut off half of the entire emotional spectrum of every single person in the world, and when it comes down to the one moment that counts, most people will have negative emotions like anger, fear, selfishness or pride, which makes sense given thats how people work, and that is what salem bets on, thats her main weapon, all shes doing is giving a focal point to channel and generate those emotions, thus fueling her efforts even more

It's kinda funny seeing you shit talk Salem while listening to Divide.
One thing I've noticed is that you seem to do so for every single villain, you talk about them all as if they were all stupid, cowardly etc. regardless of how clearly competent they might be.
For example, after Cinder made a ridiculously well crafted plan that was near certain to succeed at least to some extent, you called her dumb.
Or when Ironwood was presented as this iron handed enforcer, you immediately started calling him a bitch and a coward, the exact opposite of what he was shown to be.
And now we've got Salem, who is being constructed as this terrifying, cunning and extremely competent world threat aiming at humanities extinction, and you immediately start dissing on her as if she wasn't anything worth note, despite the fact she's essentially trying to solo humanity and is actually doing a good job at it.
Not a critique by the way, it's clear you're just insulting them and not actually ignoring the abilities they displayed. I just find it fun how much commitment you put in it, you definitely own your word of being a believer in shit talking.

This comment is about "I'm the one" and is barely a spoiler. It's just a reference to a line far later in the series.
In "I'm the one", mercury being defiled is probably a reference to his father taking his semblance from him. It's not explained at all how he did it, but it's a unique representation of a person's soul. So it's kinda messed up.
