Alien 3 is another perfect example that the directors cut is better. I never understood the hate that film got until I realized people were referring to the theatrical cut, which I’ve never seen. It’s actually my favorite film in the franchise. The characters development is awesome.

One of my friend's buddies, John, operates the reels for the Angelica in Plano when the Bourne Identity was released. It was one of the "select" theaters that was going to do an early release, with some of the cast and production team attending the release. Among them was Matt Damon. So John met Matt Damon before the screening, and Matt asked him if he got a chance to watch the film when he was testing the reels the previous night.
Without blinking an eye, John told Matt Damon, "Yeah, it was all right. I mean, it was no Reindeer Games, but I guess it was good."

So I have a funny story about throwing darts at Ben Affleck. I worked at Blockbuster when Pearl Harbor came out. Reindeer Games had already come and gone and we were headed straight into peak Ben Affleck hate. When the poster for the movie arrived for promotion, me and a coworker thought Blockbuster wouldn’t care for Pearl Harbor since it didn’t do so well so we hung the poster up and took every sharp object in the building and tried to hit a specific marker on Ben’s hat. Everything on Ben Affleck’s face was mangled except for that little marker on the hat, Blockbuster was pissed, and me and the other coworker were never allowed to work together again. I still can’t believe we never hit that marker once.

Dude, this is awesome. I'm one of your $5 Patreon supporters and I never thought you would do Reindeer Games. I lived in Prince George at the time of the filming. We had one of the few prisons in North America at the time that was unoccupied (a new one had been built next door) and we used that to snag another film earlier, Double Jeopardy. So when you say Vancouver and British Columbia, remember that Vancouver IS in BC and the other shooting location in BC was Prince George. The scene at the diner was shot locally, as was the scenes with them in front of "Michigan Fine Foods", which was actually Save On. They selected us because of our snow, but we didn't have much of it that year. Frankenheimer cast several locals, including one of my friends, though later promoting him as a director's asisstant for the time in Prince George. That would eventually see me waved on set, where I got to meet Clarence Williams, Danny Trejo, and Ben Affleck. I also got to see John Frankenheimer, but was not introduced. They also employed a local Denny's and a Sandman hotel for several scenes. It was awesome. Our local film board scored another success not long after when we got Dreamcatcher. I never said these films were any good. :)

What I appreciate most about this video is that you don't even acknowledge the parallel of what WB did to Zack Snyder's DC films (which also coincidentally star Ben Affleck), even though that's totally why you chose this movie to talk about! Your subtlety is just on point enough to make your point without pointing DIRECT fingers. Cuz it's not the the first or last film to suffer from studio interference. Like telling a story that teaches a lesson without beating you over the head that "you're" the main character fucking up in the story.

You should explore "Poltergeist 2 The other side", its very interesting how the film was unnecessary cut to became what we all know, a decent sequel that could be an incredible movie.

Hey GBF! Thanks for another amazing video again :) just asking ¿Will we ever see a "exploring" video about "Ravenous" the 1998 terror movie?

I've had an embargo of Ehren Kruger films since I knew him in high school. But if you say this film is better than what was released, I might give it a try.

Wow... I saw this film in the Theater and have never re-visited it. I'll take the suggestion and find the Directors Cut and give it a whirl.

@GoodBadFlicks May I suggest you look into Brawl in Cellblock 99. It is by the director of Bone Tomahawk.
I will tell you nothing else other than it is an amazingly powerful film with a career best performance from Vince Vaughn that you will love.
I can't see you disliking this movie.

Just two people sitting in an office "Let's change it. Character development is overrated." "how about a February release" "perfect! got anymore of that paint thinner?" It's like they wanted to make the most fucked movie ever.

I just found it strange that John Frankenheimer would spend 2 hours proving that he is definitively *not* Brian De Palma.

I would love to hear about a movie where the studio requests they dumb it down, and the director says ok and re-submits the exact same movie a couple months later and it gets approved.

Frankenheimer had a knack for picking weirdly uninteresting titles for his movies. I mean, what does "Seconds" suggest, a return to the all-you-can-eat buffet? "Reindeer Games" isn't much better.

Just watched the director's cut. Definitely a superior film. It clarified a lot of logical gaps.
