We were out chasing mackeral schools with spoons tied on and we saw some fins and tails breaking the surface,,,Cast our silver spoons over and my Buddy hooked up !!! After a long battle on light spinning gear we landed a Big Permit !! Permit on a Silver Spoon!!! Oh Yeah we kept it!!!!!

Just a question why don’t people use gear they will just be able to absolutely horse the fish up and out of sharks? Is it because you don’t know the sharks will be there. I always have this questions. Seems fisherman are constantly going in undergunned to me
For certain types of fishing lighter tackle is needed to hook the fish. Also I don't care what kind of year you have, you are not horsing a permit past a shark. If the shark wants it the shark is going to get it.
That fish was dinner regardless. It was a fight, but not every fish can be revived...better on the dinner plate than the men in the grey suits. Great eating fish and I guarantee you 80% of fishermen would not even think of releasing that
Guy I used to know over here in SwFla on the Gulf would use #80 or #100 straight Mono with Crabs for Permit on the wrecks n reefs here !! He would just horse em up like u said,,,He was meat fishing so just catching dinners,,,

Deep sea, I'd go conventional reel, drag 90% locked, 100lb mono and leader.
