It’s gonna be a pretty tough matchup
Hwei is a champion that definitely as most mages are, struggles against anything that has an assassin kit
With a lot of dashes, so it’s hard to land your abilities, and also
with a lot of dashes so its hard to land your abilities and also they just have normally good damage and stuff
Everyone else has garbage content ("Let's play AD Leona" and "Tank Teemo wrecked these kids" in freaking Silver and Gold). Meanwhile, we got Pekin, who, day in and day out, puts up high elo, try-hard content, and is an absolute *G* with it. Thank you Pekin... Look at this guy formulating ideas on what item to build, talking about strategy.. its actually amazing how informative his content is ❤

I can't count how many times someone has said he'd have a "optimal" ability for each tree, and the others would become obsolete. It's nice seeing how every ability has a situation where it can be useful.
That Graves had some heavy Silver jungler energy ngl. The perma invades, ganking random lanes and generally making strange decisions. In Silver, he's a menace - in challenger he's a liability. I don't even think he win traded. He just felt out of place.

2nd game was kinda tragic. If even a single person on your team picked a tanky team fighter it would’ve been easy mode. Probably Mao’kai. I feel like mao’kai is one of Hwei’s best teammates bc of his huge cc and area coverage.

Imma be honest, now that this champ has been on live servers for some days i feel like the only solid contribution he has is being in the select list of champions that cause severe visual pulution on teamfights.

Yeah I agree with that last remark on Hwei in the second game, got into a ranked game and I encountered a Hwei mid first time as Vel'koz. Got destroyed by him early game since I don't know how his entire gameplay works but as soon as I started catching up on him in items it was easier for me to carry since my full combo deals way more damage and just comes out faster, and against him all I needed was to land one Q into Ult and he just dies.

Fizz ult knocks back everyone in the area. Hwei ult slows everyone and does little ticks of damage to everyone before exploding.

Widening Hweis ult would probably increase his winrate a couple percentage points at the very least. I miss half the ults I throw out because its so damn skinny.
Hwei to me seems like an AOE utility team fighting champion in the same way that Seraphine is. You cant kill people in 1 rotation, lower single target but AOE damage. You play for team fights and provide a lot of cc, aoe and tools for your team. Also just like Seraphine Hwei is better botlane than mid. I dont think he needs (a lot) of buffs, especially damage wise. His APC winrate and his situational pick potential will gate keep him into being overall stronger for mid.
To be honest seraphine is at least pretty good mid… she deals more damage, has easy to hit abilities and lower cooldowns

I think if you went the Liandries + CDR build in game 2, you'd have been able to have more impact on some of those fights. The extra utility CDR brings + the burn damage from Liandries seems to be far more potent than a slightly stronger QQ / ult.
I think the burn damage has a secondary effect on the opposing team during team fights; From watching Pekin's videos, it's clear that he knows how much damage he can absorb, and whether or not the next ability will kill based on instinct. While you're taking burn damage, that boundary is less clear and may induce a player who would otherwise be confident in taking an aggressive position (due to being ahead, such as Game 2) to play more conservatively. Its subtle, but there are so many subtleties that Pekin picks up on and abuses (i.e. "Where would the enemy be standing if he wanted to get minions but be out of vision?).
Those 3 Jayce's laning deaths were satisfying to watch, ngl

I just think jungle sucks to play. You have to spend a bunch of time learning the role since it's the most different from any other, you get blamed for everything that goes wrong, and you don't even get the power fantasy of being super strong (lots of exp and gold) the same way that a mid or top laner can get because you just by default get less gold and exp because of how your role can impact the map. I'll just stick to top for when I want to have fun playing laning phase 1v1 and try to snowball, and support when I want to play a more macro oriented role.
The parallels between Hwei and Seraphine are kind of funny to me. They are both utility control mages who were on the preseason PBE, who have a rough time mid on launch, and seem like APC is their best role. I’m super tempted to pick up Hwei once the initial high pick and ban rate go down since I love the Seraphine play style, and having two champs to fill that role (well, if Sera doesn’t get sledgehammered into support) would be awesome.
Bro pick him up, he's kinda bad, but he's hella fun to play so at least you can be happy while feeding kills to the other teams botlane.
The utl is my biggest problem with Hwei, it feels like a setup ult like fizz but even so it doesn't really guarantee a lot of damage, it also has a trange hitbox IMO and somewhat short range when compared to his other abilities or considering his supposed to be like an artillery mage.

--That second game reminded me of the last two games I played yesterday. Team was clearly outclassed, mental boomed into making grief plays and then would not vote yes on the surrender vote. That last game went on for 58min. Lost my mind.
--Losing LP is not a big deal. If you believe in your ability, you shouldn't be afraid of voting yes. Maybe this is less true in challenger, but Diamond and below you'll just get matched with a different team and different opponents, allowing you to be the positive LP factor in your games. Easy, vote yes, don't spend time locked in a bad game when you could be already playing the next, probably better game.

hwei is now at 42% winrate after only a week of being released, i don't think he's that weak anymore, since i expect it to be an aphelios situation where low elo has no clue how to play the champ and just ints
... he did also get hotfix buffed, mate. Yes, his winrate jumped from high 30ies to low 40ies after a buff.
And master+ still only has around 45% winrate post buffs, so no, it's not "low elo inting".
@pekinwoof Genuinely curious. In the first game it seemed like there were a few times you had your ww shield up and didn't use it to save aatrox a couple times and also during other team fights. Sometimes fight was in your favor and sometimes not. Do you forget to use it for teams or you think it's not worth using it in team fights?
You didn’t ask me but I’ve been thinking about this. Hwei doesn’t deal good amounts of damage reliably without WE. I feel he’s so dependent on it that it doesn’t matter how strong WW is if your allies are only going to receive 50% of it anyway.
Hwei needs his monster damage buffed too. No way fighting blue buff should take 5 different Q E

Hwei is a perfect example of a new champ being destroyed by streamers on PBE.
Every streamer was releasing videos on Hwei while he was on PBE, with enormous skill imbalances because every game was against randos. Streamers steamrolled because those streamers typically are the top .001% of players. Riot, in their 'wisdom', panic nerfed the hell out of Hwei and centered his meaningful damage around his passive. Which would be fine for a champ with lower cooldowns, except Hwei has burst mage cooldowns and mana costs, but spell spam AP scaling. He needs a hard CDR build to be able to effectively use his passive, his ult is only marginally faster than classic Heimerdinger's flashbang but with a hitbox the size of a Nidalee spear, and and all his damage spells are skill shots. His W-E doesn't make up for his mana scaling until it's maxed. And next season, they're removing mana from a number of AP items, iirc, so things are only going to get worse for him. He's a fun champ concept that Riot has murdered in the crib.
He's a high skill requiring, low cap champ that's mostly good for exhibitions and flexing on people, like picking Dan in Street Fighter games, except Riot expects us to take Hwei seriously.
