Chloe's conversation with Pierce at the hospital bears a closer look. There are several hints in Pierce's expressions and carefully chosen words for what's coming.

the actress who plays Maze was in maternity leave during the first half of s3. she will appear in some episodes, but they were shot during S2.
you are reading well Lucifer inside struggle. He loves chloe, but at the same time he sees her as a manipulation of his father. Lucifer's lack of emotional maturity prevents him from understanding what he currently feels, which is why he chooses to be his worst version of himself.

Chloe arriving to find Lucifer on a horse cracked me up. The numbers of times Lucifer astounds Chloe in a public setting is hilarious.
And loved Amenadiel in this episode.😁

Lucifer always turns whatever case they work on to something to do with himself. Right now, Lucifer doesn’t believe that he's capable of actual change. And every time anyone says he has, it creates a cognitive dissonance for Lucifer, and he can't reconcile it.

Interesting episode, but something's wrong with the writing...
    Warning: Spoilers
I didn't particularly like the inclusion of Tom Welling as the lieutenant in the third season, but I still liked some of the episodes. I think the chemistry was off in this one. I didn't understand Ella's wild assumption that Pierce was into Chloe, among other things. There were glimpses of deepness concerning Amenadiel and Lucifer that I loved. Particularly after Lucifer went off on the reform school guy and Amenadiel did his speech about backing him up. The insight and restraint shown when Lucifer attempted to goad him in a fight was awesome. Just loved the acting in that last scene. They're allowed a few bumps in the road, as long as they don't go too off the rails. Like why does the young black guy have to be the one who steals cars and is thought to be a criminal? Stereotypical writing.

Despite my delay, I have to say it because I think that most people do not understand the conversation between Lucifer and Amenadiel. Lucifer is the tormented soul of the story that he tells Amenadiel, he tortured himself in hell, after the failure of his rebellion against his father and subsequent banishment to hell, he tried to find meaning in his existence, and everything he had. It was guilt, anger, suffering...he felt like he was a failure, alone and marginalized, besides betrayed, he also felt unworthy, despised and ashamed. He punished himself to try to make amends for all his sins, after Hundreds, perhaps even thousands of years, he could not take it anymore and ended up surrendering, in tears and completely broken by the pain of his sins along with his own hatred, which was what created his monstrous image. What he tells his brother is basically "I can't be saved so easily and even less so by someone who doesn't understand pain and despair because he preferred to avoid it by being his favorite son and becoming God's pet."
