I get a 30 pound box of blueberries from my daughter in law who works for a local food processing plant. They are HUGE berries. This company processes them for Dole. They are flash frozen, and I then use my food sealer and make up bags with 6 cups of berries and hand them out to our senior neighbors. And the best thing.. is that it's FREE !. ha

For those who think the Late July Tortilla Chips cost too much, Doritos cost the same amount at Walmart. Gosh, I am 57 years old, and I have never had children. I am in awe of how she does it all. From a husband to a baby still in diapers, homeschools her kids, has a You Tube channel, cooks every day three times a day from scratch, active in church, has cows, chickens, land, building a house, has parents on the other side of the country, in law on the other side of the world. Her family is healthy happy and thriving, I don't think she is bothered about the relatability of a tortilla chip.

    Sarah
I LOVE that you're not letting that person get to you! LOVE IT!! You know people put value on so many different things in life so they can afford other things that are more important to them. YES, you may spend $5.99 on a family size bag of chips. But she may be spending $60 on a Jeffery Star Eye shadow Palette, or not buying TOP TIER GASOLINE like some that you might not NEVER EVER would. So people who even have the kahunas to remark on those things just shock me! They can't be so ignorant to realize that. Right?? I mean you've stated so many times all the years you weren't able to afford Healthier foods. But now because of learning different ways. Budgeting, and of course WORKING YOUR WAY TO BECOMING more financially secure, you can!!!
That old saying..... people who live in glass houses...... You know what I mean. It just really irritates me because NO ONE KNOWS what really goes on in anyone else's home OR BUDGET!!! LOL!!!

If you are in a hurry and don't want to take pic and all for a new card, tell them you forgot your card. They ask for your ID and will print you a temp card for the day.

Hey Sarah… I live in Berry country in British Columbia. Blueberries are the absolute easiest berry to process.
I like to wash mine before freezing, but some people don’t even do that. You do not have to poke a hole in them. When you freeze them, it burst the skin, so it perforates it. Then you can dehydrate them straight from frozen… If you’d like to have them on hand for muffins in the winter, you can simmer blueberries for about 20 minutes or so add a splash of lemon and some cinnamon and you have blueberry sauce. You can can it or eat it on pancakes, yogurt, lemon loaf, or anything else. If you don’t have time, you can simply wash the blueberries and pack them into jars andcan them. Add a splash of lemon and a little cinnamon if you want. Blueberries can be water bath canned so you do not have to pressure can them.
That’s probably more than you wanted to know, but I did want you to know how easy they are to process. So the kids can even prepare them for the freezer or pack them in jars for water bathing. Enjoy those blueberries!

One of my kids loved eating frozen blueberries straight out of the freezer. I would buy them when in season, wash, dry and flash freeze on cookie sheets before bagging up in freezer zip top bags. He could have a bowl of frozen blueberries year round that way. The quality of them when frozen and fully thawed is not great, but having frozen blueberries on hand was also great for smoothies or baking blueberry muffins, coffee cakes, etc.
It makes sense that your grocery budget has gone up for a couple of reasons: grocery prices are going up around the world, not just the US. My friends in Canada and Europe are paying way more than we are. Also, as your kids are getting older, they are eating more. Even with two of them living away right now, you're feeding more teens and young adults than you used to, so the food doesn't go as far. You're doing a fabulous job of feeding them quality foods that keep them filled longer, though.

My philosophy is I try to eat as close to “real” as possible the majority of the time. That also doesn’t mean I won’t eat fast food once in a while. I do raise the vast majority of my vegetables and can them and we also butcher our own pork and cure our own bacon, sausages and hams. That helps the budget and also helps in knowing what goes into the majority of our food.

I have found good for many things in larger sizes that regular Costco does not carry, example- boxes of very wide lasagna noodles and nacho chips . Also, ramen noodles are easy to make if you have a pasta machine, the nests of noodles freeze very well and are handy if you discard the flavor packs anyway.

For Blueberries I just wash them dry them off and put into gallon ziplock bags. then freeze flat. They work great for pancakes, muffins for jam etc. I take them out of the freezer and pop right into what I'm making. Hope it helps

I totally understand that food prices have gone up all over the world! I am from the UK, and they definitely went up a fair bit here. I also understand that some people struggle more than others, but at the end of the day, I wouldn't be getting mad at what others are doing with THEIR MONEY! To be honest, you are trying to project your feelings or situations on to them. Doesn't mean this lady isn't relatable!

I’m late-but you can can whole blueberries!! Just fill a jar with them and top with water. Super simple and great to have on hand for baking without taking up freezer space. Can also dehydrate (no freeze dryer here) but you have to dip them in hot water to pop them first. Hope this helps!

I had a blueberry orchard in South Carolina with lots and lots of berries. I picked and sometimes I rinsed them and sometimes I just picked and froze them. I used freezer bags. When I took them out to use they were just like I had picked them. We had gardens and I froze and canned everything I could. I loved canned fresh string beans they were the best. I miss that life.

The way I preserve blueberries is by washing them, dry somewhat on paper towels, then freezing them in a single layer on cookie sheets. I then put them in freezer bags - ready to eat or cook with. They last a very long time in the freezer. We make smoothies with a lot of frozen fruit.

I make my own apple chips, just slice some apples thin lay them on their side, I don't even seed or core them, lay tgem on parchment paper on baking sheets I even place them kinda sitting on the side, it doesn't matter, I sprinkle with cinnamon, on both sides and put tgem in a preheated 225° oven then check and flip them in an hour or so, it takes about 3-4 hours depending on how thin they are, I store them in a ziplock with a moisture absorber..... yours probably wouldn't last that long, but it's a thought. 😊 when we go pick blueberries, we have them in abundance, we wash them, tgen let them slightly air dry and put them in freezer bags, they are delicious to just eat frozen in the summer or add to yogurt or ice cream..... also blueberry lemonade is delicious, just crush a handful or so in the lemonade. .... yummm

I’ve decided a few things myself. 1. As we get older and have more experience, and assuming we have a better budget or income, we have been able to accommodate dietary wishes. No everyone can afford organic or even azure and that’s okay. In time. Pray about it. 2. The further we moved from the city it just made sense to buy local or bulk like Azure. As a trade off I ditched the Costco card. Will miss the cash back but we do t buy monthly anymore and it’s too far. 3. Even as my family dynamic changes, I still buy bulk. I’m still (always?) learning new skills from breads to cheese to milk products and I want to have ingredients on hand. Going to the store less also costs less (gas, time, and money).
Our budget has also gone up because costs have gone up. Everyone does what they can how they can. And I’d rather see someone get a dozen cans of X for food storage from dollar tree than not at all. We’re all becoming scouts: be prepared. ❤
