One footnote is to take into consideration the market value of a similar garment within the category. Specially when making sport/casual apparel. This will allow you to adjust wholesale if the price is too high, too low or drop the style all together - best!

Wouldn't you create a lookbook with the design sketches to show to retailers before production and wouldn't you estimate the yardage from a typical marker?

Thanks, i love your stuff, in machine shop we follow this with labor following hourly for specialization, and just 1.5 that, but for anything artistic we were told to quadruple it, and if that seemed reasonable, quadruple it again

pricing goods need two angles- your cost and your target customer in mind and of the perceived value of your product.

hi nick love your videos i have learnt a lot, just a quick question what about retail I always have a problem pricing for a single client i always feel i will chase them off with the price.

You should also add a percent for "profit" into your cost sheet. Also add overhead ( the cost of your design/sample room and office) Then add the cost marketing. ( Tradeshows, Line sheets, catalogs, Magazine ads etc....)

Nick, I want to share a short story with you. I recently spent an afternoon with my mum, she is nearly 93 years old. I tried to explain to her what draping is but she did not get the concept. No better way to show her than using you fashion school tutorials. Did she get it...well yes but she was more intrigued by the elegance of your hands, as “they were dancing with the fabric”. Guess no one could ever descripe it better than my mummy.

Hi Nick! I want to buy a beginner's book for designing my own clothes and I'm wondering how much instruction is in your Passion for Fashion book. Will it teach me some basics to get started or is it more a biography? I already sew SIMPLE things but I want to learn to drape and tailor but not anything too elaborate. I want to work with linen mostly, but I think I can learn to drape silk too. Is that your only book? Advise please. THANKS. ps I just love your vids and you just make me feel happy and inspired, which is the most important thing in life, so I consider you a special person in general, not just in fashion.
