    I think people forget about the concept of Homesteading...
    Calling a professional to pay someone to do your horses/mules is redundant if you learn/know how to do it properly. It's not that hard to learn and people have been doing this for ages. I know every farmer I know that owns horses does this kind of maintenance like this on their own. They'll only call a farrier when their horses need shoeing or have a problem with their hooves.
    Clipping hooves is not something you need to spend money on honestly. It's routine maintenance -- no different than clipping a dog or cat's claws. If you learn how to do it properly you can/should do it yourself since your animals trust you a bit more than they would someone else.
    That being said, nice work :)

    My dad had a donkey that hated this. He had foundered early in life. And needed his feet trimmed probably 8-10 times a year. Don't know how old he was when he died but he was in our family for 30 years. The only time we ever had any problems was getting his feet trimmed.

    Becky. What kind of hoof trimmers do you have? I have been thinking about trimming our horses hooves. But I am so scared I will do it wrong. Like cut too much or get them off balance. I do have a hoof jack now. Which is nice. And do you sharpen your hoof knife? And how do you do it? I have a dull one.

    Hey Becky, I got a quick question or you, I’m thinking of starting my backyard coop of 2-4 hens. My main concern is that where I live, in Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 it gets really hot in the summer ( around 40+ degrees Celsius which is around 100 degrees Fahrenheit) and really cold in the winter, with temperatures reaching 13 degrees Celsius which is around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Are there any breeds of chickens which can make it through these climates, i been searching and only find breed which are either breeds for cold or breeds for hot. You have inspired me to want to raise chickens but I’m praying my parents will allow me once they see I know so much..
    thanks for any help

      A range of 55 to 100 is normal. Just make sure your coop is built in dark shade. Go to my web site Beckyshomestead.com then click Chickens in the search box. I have made lots of videos to help☀️❤️☀️

      Hey Becky, does the hatchery you buy chicks from ship out to Australia? And I wanted to know which you would recommend, buying unsexed chicks, with unknown breeds for 3 dollars at a flea market or spend a lot of money on sexed known breeds which come from a hatechery

    • @anthonyalbazi9987
      @anthonyalbazi9987 Před 6 lety

      If I decide to go to the flea markets the ways of ‘sexing’ knowing the sex of your birds is looking at their feathers and if the have paintbrushes shaped feathers it a female and long straight indicate a male, another way I have seen is holding the chick the neck and letting it hang and if it kicks it’s a male and if it dosent it’s a girl. Are these ways actually true

    • @BeckysHomestead

    • @BeckysHomestead
      @BeckysHomestead  Před 6 lety +1

      No equine likes their feet and legs touched much. That does not mean it was mistreated. It means it was never trained. Just start training her. Nice and slow, With your hands, start stroking her legs and move down to her feet. Once she lets you do that, pick up her hoof and put it right back down. Do that to all 4. ☀️❤️☀️

    to be honest this woman doesn't really know what she's talking about, you can tell by the way she stresses how every horse has a cleft right there and I'm not sure all do, he's VERY high at the back he should be shorter than that think triangle rather than club, like this he's standing on his toes, if you want to see someone who really knows about farriery don't follow this chariltan who would have you put bleach down inside a hole in her horses foot and stretch it open! Follow Bill Campenelli, this guy really knows what he's talking about and you'll learn a LOT about what a normal hoof looks like, thanks to him I actually know what my horses hooves should look like
