- Was at homedepot and noticed a drugged up lady on the electrical aisle looking at the circuit breakers. My friend then pointed out that she was dumping a load of breakers in her backpack! We called an employee and the employee confronted her by asking "is there anything we can help you with?" the lady responded by saying "no I'm fine" The employee then left! She started walking out through the returns desk and that's when I decided to whip out my phone and start recording her! Just amazing and shocking.... theft like this in broad daylight...

Turns out as they were making their escape, they didnt.. Cops were already on their way and spotted them in the parking lot as the camerman waved them down.. Pursuit began and the black guy driving was shot by the cop quote "fearing for his personal safety."

I worked at Home Depot for nearly 7 yrs, and as a manager of Cust Service at the time, we routinely had shoplifters but there was shockingly little we could do about it. In fact, this one guy was a true repeat offender, and it was getting ridiculous. One day, he came in and it was busy and he did his thing; when he walked past my register and toward the door, FINALLY the alarm went off. We can't do anything unless the alarm goes off, you see. I was fed up, he lit out of there like a rabbit and I went after him like a bat out of hell. I was no small girl, and I chased him to his car while an employee called the police and when he saw we weren't gonna let him leave, he just gave up. He got arrested, and I.... I got fired.

Most retailers have a no chase policy b/c they rather suffer the theft loss than pay worker's comp if an employee gets injured trying to apprehend the suspect. Or the suspect turns around and sues the retailer for assault or unlawful detainment.
One of the retailers I worked for ages ago had a visit from the local PD during our grand opening. The officer asked where we detain thieves at when we catch them. I kept trying to explain to her that we couldn't legally detain them until they stepped out the door with the merchandise. And we have a no chase policy so we couldn't chase them down afterwards. The cop just couldn't understand why we didn't chase them down 😂
I don't understand your story at all. Why were you trying stop them? It sounded like you were a cashier, leave that to loss prevention. Next is why couldn't you do anything?? You have evidence on camera right lol. Have outside cameras get the plates and report them.

U should make sure you post this video to all the facebook community groups in the area in which u live. Also take some still shots of the suspects faces from the video and post them in the groups as well. At the very least the exposure they will get in your local area will embarrass the hell out the them and possibly even their friends and family will see it.

Getting the license plate probably didn't matter as the car itself was likely stolen. You can see that the rear corner window was recently smashed as glass fell from it. This window is usually only smashed as it won't trip the alarm.
You're probably right, yet you need to let the police know which car they need to stop when they pursue them on the highway.

It's easy to watch a video and respond on how to handle things from behind a screen. In the heat of the moment when you're not sure what to do and it all happens very fast, this was the cameraman's best response.

I work hardware and man we get hit pretty hard i just dgaf , can't do sh!t about it. all we do is write it in the "Theft Portal" . Recently our store LP working got fired for pushing a thieve against the doors lmao , stoopid no hands policy but hey customers come first!

Unfortunately the writeoff eventually gets passed on to the customer in the form of higher prices. For example the Home Depot in the poorer part of my town has a lot of theft, so the prices for certain items are higher than they are at the Home Depot in the middle class area of town.
All it does is hurt the honest, hard-working poor people who have no choice but to buy supplies at that store, and have to pay more money to offset the theft committed by the other poor people who choose not to work.
So people can just go in home depot, and take whatever they want? How do they stay in business. It would make more sense to hire off duty officers.

The employee you told did not confront her directly because home depot employees are told to not confront, accuse or even tip off that they think someone is stealing. they are told to just ask them if they need any assistance. Home depot hires Theft protection undercover people to walk around the stores all day and catch people stealing, not home depots fail, theft protections fail!

I would have stood behind the car, I did that with a shop lifter at harbor freight tools, he struck me with the car to get away and went to prison for aggravated assault.
I helped catch a tweaker thief that already had a long criminal record. He is out of prison now and going to school for hair dressing which he truely loves. His life is going up now. The sad thing is that there is not much stores can do about it because of the laws, stuff like this usually just ends up as a price increase on products that good customers have to pay the price for. It also wasn't safe to confront them, all of them are most likely drug users and have an extensive criminal background, their life expectancy is already reduced
