      He really really does. I'm watching the show yet again and finding it just remarkable how much depth, and, oddly, subtelty, he gave this character that, in lesser hands, could have been just a caricature. He truly is brilliant.

    For me personally, Michael Scott is one of the greatest tragic comedy characters of all-time. I'd even go as far as saying I preferred Scott to David Brent _(which is tantamount to sacrilege in the UK)_.
    I bought the entire series for my wife recently, and have been slowly working through the episodes. The whole experience has been fantastic. Wonderful show. Pure genius.

    • @stevedietrich3084

      Lol British people think the UK lead is way better?? Wow. That's just backing you're own country for the sake of it. The British version isn't even funny!! I've tried watching it, I don't see how anyone could think their lead character is funny. Michael Scott is absolutely hilarious. But ya, UK version sucks, I don't care if it came first

    • @kurozael

      @ScuffyP Před 8 lety +3

      *****
      I don't think the gentleman in question is bright enough to read the subtlety of the UK version. For some people, unless the comedy is literally in their face they can't see it. Period. Naturally their usual intellectual response is "it sucks" etc.
      Ignore them; the world does so you might as well too.

      I actually prefer David Brent, because he's hilarious. Funnier than Micheal Scott imo. But I do like Michael too and I appreciate the more human approach they took with him. Steve Carell does a really great job of portraying that he does have a heart, despite his utter foolishness.

    I think Michael is very honest and his portrayal of his character is in fact genius. he is honest in the sense that he does not mean to offend people and a lot of the times because of the way our society is set up (due to stereotypes) he is more upfront and oblivious to the offensive things he's saying. and usually when he's called out on them he makes an effort (though for comedic effect he fails lol) to no longer offend his Coworkers. I think that's what makes his character so appealing is that he's real and not like Todd Packer who is just an asshole but Michael isn't doing it to be malicious he's just unaware and uninformed.

    @crazypants88 Před 10 lety +10

    I totally agree with Steve, which is why I feel that the last episode and to an extent the last season have such heavy implications for Michael Scott. I mean every terrible thing people have said about Michael in the show is in the Office "universe", so to speak, an actual TV show now. Every one of his stupid moments are now entertainment material for millions of people, again in the office "universe". For a person as obsessed with being liked as Michael, this has life destroying implications. I can't see how Michael Scott's life wouldn't be destroyed by this fact.
    Really feel like the writers didn't think the finale through.

Ricky couldn't play Michael Scott and Steve couldn't play David Brent so it's a good thing they decided to go in their own direction and write Michael Scott in a way that takes full advantage of Steve's comedic strengths.
