- Let's get this fall started on the channel, with a new Keep or Cull episode!
Even though this project is going way slower than planned, we are having so much fun, and we love to have a reason to play all of our older games!

Good choice on keeping Obsession! This is a superb game that finally got my wife into the hobby. It plays even better with the expansions, especially Upstairs, Downstairs.
Even the base game can be livened up by playing variants. We always play with the Queen Victoria variation when playing 2-player. This takes out the lowest-priced tile from the market at the end of the second player's turn each round. This allows for more movement in the builder's market when only two are playing, allowing more tiles to come out and give players a better chance of making their bonuses.
We also always play with the Dickens variation, where the dice is rolled to determine in which round the focus of the next season's courtship is determined. This gives a little uncertainty, and can allow a bit more competition if the focus is revealed early in the season.
A great thematic game that we both enjoy, and is among our top choices for games nights!

Hello, stats in the comments here! We got a new puppy at the start of June, and while she is a bundle of joy she is also time consuming so I fell behind with the Keep or Cull episodes... but now I'm all caught up. As always, the link to the stats spreadsheet can be found in the About page of my channel.
*This Episode:* 7 games total, 5 kept and 2 culled.
*All time:* 401 games total, 179 kept and 222 culled.
Although you say you are going slowly, you have keep-or-culled 401 total games so far which is no small feat. Also, to anyone who says you never cull anything... you have culled 179 games so far! Roughly 45% of all games culled is not never culling anything :)

Lagacies is so good. I love the Quality of the components. Its a have Euro game. Where you are connected to the other players at the table. And you can play it with six players. And i think it is best at six players. We needed 3 to 3,5 hours with 6 players at the table.
I really liked it, but when Sunniva didn’t it’s harder to get back to the table! Looking forward to Keep or Cull 2.0 😅

I like it, though the game length is something of a challenge. I'm planning to make a little player aid for the global action tiles, as this seemed to be the area that consistently took time as people familiarised themselves with them each round. Whilst the aim is to trim game time down to the max 3.5 hours available at our game club, I'm also keen to at some point do what Julian suggests, and play it at the full 6 player count, as the board feels like it could get much more interesting with more competition / tokens in play.

I liked Scythe quite a bit. What bumped it into my top 10 or so was the Rise of Fenris expansion. I had more fun with the Rise of Fenris than I have with any other shorter campaign/legacy game. Adding that it is great to have you back (though bummer about the pilot shortage)!

The cuteness alone is a selling point on Transmissions, and I wish such cuteness had a little more meat to it. I don't need a complicated game, but I do need a game that owns its own space.

Rise of Fenris expansion for Scythe is the third best expansion of all time according to BGG. Only Tuscany (for Viticulture) and Prelude (for Terraforming Mars) have a greater geek rating. Yes, it's that good. I like Scythe but with the campaign in the expansion it becomes much much better. You really have to try it.

I have always felt that the original Le Havre’s optimal player count is 2 players. It actually feels like you accomplish more with 2 then in the other player counts.
I love it at both 2 and 3! Maybe 3 is my favorite!

We played Transmissions last night for the first time and despite wanting to love it for the look; it really fell flat for me. I had to many frustrating turns that felt wasted and the things I did accomplish felt small because I only did that action 2-4 times.
We’ve played Obsession once and want to get it played again soon.
Yeah, it fell flat for us too. I have heard people like it, and that is awesome, but it wasn’t for me!

Great content as usual, thanks 😃. We own scythe and one of the expansions, I enjoy it but my wife would rather play something else. We would love to hear your thoughts on Fenris as we both have such different opinions of what we own already that we haven't invested in this expansion. In regards to the Scythe Song, it would be a tragedy if you didn't share that with your audience 😉.

Obsession is great, though I'm not crazy about the theme (my non-gamer wife on the other hand LOVES this theme). I think this one is becoming a modern classic. Dice Tower said it was extremely popular at one of the latest conferences even though it came out in 2018? I'm debating grabbing a copy

That Le Harve review was so funny - this was so boring… this was that but not fun… 😆 I love Obsession. It runs long at 4 but I love the theme and the game play.

I didn't back Transmissions because it seemed like the gameplay just wasn't there. The major appeal for me is the Matt Dixon artwork, and he makes books and calendars that I can buy and enjoy instead.
I've been intrigued by Mandate, but I missed the KS and it's tough to find, especially to try first.
Obsession *is* cool! There's only one real gameplay expansion (Upstairs, Downstairs) which adds some cool stuff; the other boxes are mostly just additional tiles, or a 6th family board.
Yeah, it wasn’t for us! Haven’t heard about Mandate! Need to try out the expansion sometime :p

I was always Luke warm on Scythe. Until we decided to try Fenris. It just elevates the game so much. Without Fenris I would've culled out copy. With Fenris it is a top 25 game and never leaving.
When should you try Fenris? After how many plays of Scythe, do you think? Thanks!

@@BoardGamingRamblings barging in to say Rise is very short (8 games, a few of them are a lot faster than normal games) and very worth it imo. You can even play 2 + 1 automa and it works great.
But the thing Rise does that you may not enjoy because of time constraints is that, after the campaign, it becomes an extremely well done "Modules Expansion" that adds a LOT of options for a normal game.
I'm not a Stonemaier Stan, since I dislike most of their games, but Rise of Fenris is probably the best expansion of a board game I know of.
@@BoardGamingRamblings oh and just so you don't give up before "feeling it": Rise campaign's first game is just a normal Scythe game that sets up for the rest of it. So the different stuff actually begins on game 2.

@@BoardGamingRamblings i didnt actually pick up the expansions when i backed. I wasnt 100% sure that i would like the game. Im going to track them down though. Really enjoy it.
I've always felt like I'm in the minority about Scythe. I think it's at most ok. It's a decent game, but I sold it after I played it a few times because I just found myself not being overly excited to play it anymore. It just feels like as soon as you get your engine going the way you like it the game ends. The race to get everything out just doesn't match the other parts of the game to me.
You can’t like every game, right? :) I didn’t like Scythe either, but this time I had a lot of fun, and wouldn’t be sad to play it again in the future!
The Wind Gambit expansion adds a bunch of alternative end conditions to the game. adding a very different feel to it other that just racing to get the stars out. pretty cool

Brazil killed scythe for me, it does what scythe does but faster and gives you more options.

I choose to keep way too much 😅 I wouldn’t even believe that I had this idea to begin with, but we have culled around 45% of games played! Would probably have been closer to 60% if Sunniva did it alone 😂 And yeah, we pick on each other all the time 😁
