If you can get a copy of Schrader's Electronic Communications, all you need to know is there. It is the book on Naval Communications that is used in Navy Comms classes. The book is expensive, but you will never need another source.

To me, Motorola is the Harley Davison to the Two way Radio world. Of course other manufactures have made good products, but Motorola sits at the top. There is no one that can top what Motorola has done.

Ham radio is what led me into this career. Had it not been for the hobby (the radio bug that bit), I think I would have ended up either working on medical equipment or doing something related to audio engineering. For the average person, ham radio is a good way to start out in the communications engineering field.
I got my first full-time job working for a fellow ham.
I got my 2nd job because another ham, who worked at a sister company, put my CV on top of the pile.
I got promoted because of my experience with delivering RAE classes.
I met my wife because my (now brother-in-law) is a ham.
