You are discounting that the NBA is largely already a very nepotistic league. Either you knew somebody who played in the league, or your parents, siblings, or cousins played in the league or were already a professional athlete. It’s actually more rare for someone to get to the NBA without being connected in some way, hell most of these young players were being trained by NBA players as children. I actually think it’s very likely guys like Jimmy Butler or Lebron James are connected to the league through their fathers. You don’t just grow to 6ft 8in for no reason, you have relatives that were or are insanely tall human beings. People forget Curry was having lunch with Kobe when he was a little boy, all because of who his daddy was. Lebron was playing pickup ball with Michael F’in Jordan as a teenager. It’s the equivalent of being around someone like Elon Musk or Warren Buffet as a kid. Lebron was just casually allowed to be around a billionaire. Kobe’s dad was in the NBA, he got to travel across the world and was 10 years more mature than anyone his age. The list goes on and on. You need to know people who are connected, or you need to be a genetic freak of nature. Even guys you think aren’t connected, they were through coaches, and playing with other .01% level talents.
