So pretty much, if I am running CFW I just need to pop the Evilnat Update file on my USB and use it on my PS3. Pretty straight forward. Thanks for the tutorial!
sorry if this is late, but after you upgraded your ssd and reinstalled the cfw did you have to re mod the console? or does restoring a backup from usb from before you switched the ssd allow you to still use all your jailbreaks and saves from before adding the ssd
@@HikariPrime Hello there! Nah no worries, never too late ;) If i fully remember, you just have to reinstall the CFW and you should be good to go, if anyone knows more about this, please correct me if I was wrong!
@mimiperator6505 What do you mean re-install? Do you mean just install the evilnat update, or do you mean you have to do the entire process from scratch like you are hacking the console for the first time?
@@checob224 depending on how you jb the first time you don’t have to since your flash memory is already modded. all you have to do is instead of installing the update from psn; install the cfw update onto a usb and download it when it gives you the prompt after installing your new ssd/hdd
I upgraded both mine an my brothers PS3's to a 1 TB SSD an wow what a difference in speed it makes. I've loaded 40 of my games onto it from disk to ISO and now I don't have to load the disk ea. time. I would say average speed to transfer the game 15 to 20 minutes an on FAT32....that is fast!! All the other reads I've made say that it don't make that much of a difference but it does and I recommend it if it's in the budget.
Im running 4.89.3 DEX so for CEX, System settings backup data utility USB formatted to FAT32 and back up everything and put the new HDD in and go back to backup data utility and press restore. I’ve been doing this for a couple days now it’s been giving me issues cause I’m a DEX user, and note BACKUP UTILITY DOES NOT SHOW UP ON DEX firmwares.** Change the debug settings to CEX to get them to show. But since your running CEX you shouldn’t have any issues. Given you haven’t done a dumbass move like I did and overwrote your account ID. So I had to delete the corrupted files.
Sadly no, PS3 hard drives have a file system that isn’t recognized by windows or Mac OS. In the PS3 system settings you can instead backup everything to a usb drive and restore it after upgrading the internal drive
There are those standalone HDD cloners... Not sure whether they work with PS3s file system though... Edit: psdevwiki says you can use "ATA tweaks" to read/write to the PS3 hard drive
,hi there, i want to ask if my console already JB CFW 4.9, now want to change SSD, what should i do? install OFW, then re-CFW? or direct install cfw will do?
My console is already modded, will it detect the update from the usb drive like we see at 4:46. Also, should we backup everything on a usb before taking out the old hdd?
Modded consoles should detect the update from the USB drive. Also backing up everything is necessary if you want to keep your save data and previously downloaded games, and of course you can restore the back up later.
@@EvanTetroI had to rethink this over all it will do is unflash the memory and revert it back to OFW. My bad. But nah for OP you won’t have CFW anymore. And besides who doesn’t love CFW?
AData is THE worst ssd on the market. I don't advice ever using one. Kingston, Crucial, Samsung are all good choices. I few dollars more but well worth it!
SSDs really boosted the performance especially games like MGSV Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain so I suggest getting a SSD instead of HDD
Oh nice. I'll probably wait until the hard drive dies first, though.
I was wondering if doing a ssd will fix gta5 lagging, running on multiman
Thanks for the part about installing HFW! I installed it this weekend and wanted to upgrade my hdd to a ssd. Definitely helped me out a lot :)
Thanks for a very informative video. I had just modded my PS3 slim before deciding I needed a bigger HDD so simply applying the CFW Update was easy.
thank you for the video, i upgraded my 60gb jailbreak 4.90 harddrive and this video helped me

I upgraded my PS3 to the Samsung EVO 870 1tb SSD. Now I'm using 3 upscalers 👀🥊🥊🔥🔥🙏
I thought that the fat model stores cfw internally and not on the hdd so it was safe to not remod it, just curious correct me if im wrong!

So, how do I move my data back in, now?
@EvanTetro I am a modded ps3 that has CFW 4.89 Evilnat CEX with BG, is there anyway to transfer all that data to a storage media device?

What happens if I want to go from Evilnat Cobra CFW 4.88 to the latest version when upgrading?
It just upgrades to that version
Yes it does matter cause the ssd is not going to create more heat like the regular hard drive does 🤷♂️
Is there an easy way to "clone" what we already had on the previous hard drive so we don't have to download a whole bunch of stuff again?

On my ps3 super slim i just put a empty 256gb hdd and it did everything itself
There is a program or two that will clone it properly on the PC. I don't remember the name of the program tho.
Does this work for PS3s with HEN?

Direct install cfw
When it asks you for a user name, do you write the user name that you’ve used or do you write « User 1 »?
Any username will work

@@EvanTetro Thank you
So wait even though you are already fully CFW / jailbroken you used the Official PS3 update file and still kept your CFW / jailbreak ??
No, I used the CFW update file
Don’t do that, you will brick your system.

Does the ssd have to be sata 1.0 or can i get a sata 2.0?
It can be sata 1, 2, or 3. All types of sata ssds will work but the speed will be capped at sata 1 which is 150MB/s

Got from 40gb to 500gb thanks man!

I recently stopped using AData drives. I had one on my PS4, but every time I update it, it would crash and I’d have to reinstall the OS.
