For the record, it was Ian 'Pigs For Slaughter' Rawes who coined the term "Crust" in 1983. I still have the letter he sent me at the time in which he refers to Napoleon of Eat Shit/Hackney Hell Crew as being so filthy he looked "like he's risen from the primordial crust" and that him and Sean Mason, another early Class War member, had started calling that crowd (ie ES, Blower, Sons of Bad Breath members and friends) "Crusties". The term didn't exist before then and Hellbastard hadn't even formed until a few years later.
humangarbage09 They only started Metal, which crept into Punk & made it not-shit like that Pistols stuff. It brutalized it, even though the elitists like to call Discharge "100% PURE PUNK ROCK, DEEEEEEWD!" No, they were Metallic as fuck & that's when they got good & inspired Hardcore Punk.
Crust Punk is only Punk in that it's predominantly Working Class and Left Wing really. Otherwise it's more like Black Metal. At the very least it overlapped a lot with First Wave in terms of sound. It's coming off of Mötorhead moreso.
@@WocklessGamingforAnimeMoms I agree that many Crust bands were closer to metal than punk, but the metal bands they drew upon, Mötorhead, Venom, Celtic Frost, were all influenced by punk.

Discharge heavily influenced crust. Discharge came before Hellhammer/Celtic Frost- who on Wikipedia state they were influenced by the first 2 Discharge releases...

jared _ Everything you said is 100% subjective & pretty ignorant. What is "Punk"? How would you define it? Certainly not the same as I would. I'm a Crustie & I'm not violent. It's more political & ideological than anything else.
I heard about crust punk by some metal youtuber that apparently really likes the genre, so I decided to have a try. But now, I'm really disappointed. Not my jam at all.
Not best album to start with, this is more like classics to understand the origins. Crust is very diverse genre with different sound schools. For more speed d-beat oriented crust try more modern stuff like Victims - Divide and Conquer, Martyrdod - List, Disfear - Live the Storm, Wolfbrigade, From Ashes Rise, than go to fast classics like Discharge, Anti-Cimex, Doom. For slow stuff (stenchcore) try Swordwielder, than classics like Amebix and Axegrinder. But if you dont have time and want to cheat, for faster understanding of crust duality try Filth of Mankind - The Final Chapter.

How are they "sell out" Heavy Metal? I suppose you could argue they are now, but when they first came out, they were anything but sell outs.
Nice one. Aye was 1986 when we did this.
*The DEFINITION of CRUST!!!*
Yes. Which is Metalpunk with some d-beat!
Metalpunk + d beat + anarcho punk = crust.
Metalpunk + d beat + anarcho punk = crust. Bulshit....
Anarcho Punk + Extreme Metal (Speed or Thrash or Black or Death Metal) = Crust Punk.
