      Bryan Sadler They're not still around. Doug Gray's there in physical form; his voice hasn't been spotted in decades. Tommy and Toy Caldwell, and George McCorkle have been dead for years. Jerry Eubanks and Paul Riddle wisely departed years ago. This isn't the Marshall Tucker Band. I don't know what the hell it is.

    • @kurtjustin7918

      +PJB1775 You're right. The music had nothing to do with Toy and Tommy Caldwell, George McCorkle, Jerry Eubanks, Paul Riddle and Doug Gray when he had a voice. It's only about covering the songs they wrote and played 40 years ago. Come to think of it, since I play a bit of guitar myself, perhaps I'll change my name to Jimmy Page and start a band called Led Zeppelin. . . then again, maybe Duane Allman/Allman Bros. has a nicer ring to it.

      There's no way this band should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke considering who they've put in. This band is in a class by themselves and there should be a different Hall of Fame for real rock and roll not rap and disco and crapola. I wouldn't even want to be in that Association anymore it's a joke. Marshall Tucker Allman Brothers Band Lynyrd Skynyrd Johnny Winter Stevie Ray Vaughan the often forgotten Atlanta Rhythm Section. Just a few from the southern rock genre musicians great musicians playing instruments and singing how can you even mentioned in the same phrase Run DMC? There needs to be separate categories. As I recall a turntable what's something you played albums on through your Marantz and jbl's. When did it become an instrument? It's amazing these people calling themselves artists who can't even play a ukulele. To quote the Wicked Witch of the West what a world what a world what a world

    Marcus is killer! Ya'll can say what you want about these guys. I personally love the guys! They are wonderful musicians and each talented in their own right. Yes, Doug handles things a little differently than he used to. Hell, once you get 70 yrs old, I'm sure you will too. I love Doug's stories myself. It's ok with me if he kicks back and lets the other guys sing and play. Doug had throat surgery several yrs ago. Doc told him to take a year off. Doug didn't listen and was back on the road within 6 weeks. I'm sure more damage was done to his vocal chords because of this. I give respect where the respect is due. And, Doug has earned it in my book. These guys are my friends. We go way, way back.I have seen them play a gazillion times. Hope to see them many more times. Peace

    Just saw them play for free in downtown Spartanburg.-- my 8th time( also saw Toy 'solo' twice) . Love these songs, even though the style is s bit different on some of them now. IMO Desert Skies Ramblin the beloved Fire on the Mountain we the highlights Doug is more like the host now, and Marcus Henderson is a way-multifaceted musician. It's more like an MTB tribute band now, especially in the absence of Toy and his thumb-driven guitar playing, and no original guys save for Doug. Two things Doug said on stage hit me- (pointing) ' We started just a couple of blocks over there on Spring Street'(I had just walked down it to get to the square where the stage was set up) and (intro' ing Can't You See) 'This song's been played 130 million times' and not joking. He must be talking about all artists who have played it,live or recorded , because if he's right that puts it even ahead of Stairway To Heaven.....thanks for reading and thanks for the music Toy, Tommy, Doug, Paul, George ,Jerry and all who loved them

    My wife and I saw MTB as newlyweds in 1978 at the Purdue University Hall of Music. An incredible show. We saw Doug and some guys who call themselves MTB twice in 2018 because they were opening for Skynyrd. Very sad. Doug needs to give it up. He can’t sing (sadly holding the mic out to the crowd and saying “you sing it” way too much). Just not the same and not even close. MTB had such energy. Now the sense you get is it’s all about scheduling dates and making a little bank. No Tommy bass solo during 24 Hours at Time, (hell, no 24 Hours at a Time for that matter...). No Toy “Thundering Thumb”. No Jerry sax. Breaks my heart. If you don’t know what they were like live back in the day suggest you check out Stompin Room Only. Thank God someone recorded them live. No one will ever play like that again. I repeat, Doug needs to give it up.

The last time I saw them, Doug had throat surgery, and could not sing, he tried converting the concert into a comedy hour, it didnt work. This flute solo is the worst thing I heard in many years, as well as this horrible song. They are a cover band now, no resemblance to the MTB. Like others have said, time to give it up. I will continue to listen to their old stuff, and leave it all at that.

    The reason Doug has lost his voice is due to singing this song. There are still pieces of his lungs hanging from the rafters of the MS Gulf Coast Coliseum from a 1978 show. The sound/pa crew have built a shrine up there, they burn incense and all that stuff, they tell me, especially before rap/hip hop shows. You can't see it from down below, but it's there.

      This lineup is only missing FIVE MEMBERS of the original SIX: Toy on guitar, and Tommy Caldwell on bass, George McCorkle on the other guitar and Jerry Eubanks the flute player plus Paul Riddle the original drummer. That's all the band has lost over 40 years. Nothing to see here. That said, these guys are VERY GOOD even if they have to work around Doug's limitations. The Allman Brothers also had to work around Gregg Allman before they finally brought that band to an end.

    The other guitar player to Doug's left has long hair in this video. I don't recall seeing him with long hair in the other videos I have seen. Maybe he had his hair tied behind his head. I think he looks a little like a much young Dave Hlubek of Molly Hatchet, from a distance anyway. And who is that guy to Chris's right?

    • @PJB-lp8kd
      @PJB-lp8kd Před 8 lety

      The guitar player to Chris' right is Shane Pruitt, killer guitar slinger from Spartanburg, SC

    • @jaxflfreebird
      @jaxflfreebird Před 8 lety

      I agree. Chris is very talented. Toy Caldwell would STILL be proud of this band. Doug is surrounded by incredible talent. And they have the wisdom and DECENCY to work with Doug in his vocally diminished condition. They treat him like the father figure, the grandfather figure that he is. It just wouldn't be the MTB without Doug. I'm glad he's still here just croaking as he does. He can't help it if time has caught up with him. A lot of older singer's can't do what they did in their younger days. Most singers suffer the ravages of time and they all show it to some degree. I think Doug could work with a vocal coach and if he got into better shape, lost some weight, he'd get back some of his ability to project vocally. The weight presses on the lungs and extra weight will affect one vocally if they are a singer.

So I thought the guitar player looked a bit like Dave Hlubek from when he was young. OK, so maybe he DOES NOT look a think like the guy. OK, is that my CRAZY comment. If so, then I stand called out. Sure, Dave Hlubek in his prime had LONG HAIR. Later he got very FAT. He's been looking like a JOKE for decades now. I don't even know how he is still alive. I guess he has good genes and a strong heart. OK, so you disagree. Sorry for being so OUTRAGEOUS with my comments.
