    After several failed attempts to make a productive adjustable jig, finally did a CZcams search and found this. This simple engineering of a simple jig can be quite elusive, yet you sir did an outstanding job on the creation. I had really over complicated my process, now tomorrow I will be making this and I am sure will save me much time on the inlay router cuts I make on my signs. Thanks for sharing.

    #1 I love that blade guard. #2 that router, the putting to guide is very nice. I took a lint roller and put sand paper around it to sand inside circles and also took different sides of wood circles, glue them together and made one for my drill press :) All in all your project is very niceeeeeee I like it.

    Das System werde ich mir nachbauen, ist gut nachvollziehbar dargestellt.

    • @thosa
      @thosa  Před 6 lety +2

      Die Sechskantschrauben haben sich jedoch als nicht die beste Wahl erwiesen.. In Holz drehen die schnell über. Ein schmaler, länglicher Alustreifen mit einer Senkkopfschraube ist besser geeignet.

    • @digoulm
      @digoulm Před 6 lety +1

      Der Alustreifen gleitet dann wohl in der Nut? Die Senkkopfschraube verstehe ich ja, nur wie willst Du die fixieren? Einkleben? Ich denke da eher an passende Nutsteine, die Schraube müsste dann anders herum angebracht werden, was aber eine zusätzliche Aussparung zum Einsetzen der Schraube bedingt.

    • @thosa
      @thosa  Před 6 lety +2

      Ja, der Alustreifen quasi als Nut. Loch bohren, Gewinde rein, Senken, Senkkopfschraube rein. Gleiches System habe ich an meinem Kreisschneider für die Bandsäge gemacht. In der Mitte ist eine versenkte Aluschiene. Vorne am Drehpunkt ist eine Senkkopfschraube bündig abschließend in der Aluschiene.

    • @luciancaliman1617
      @luciancaliman1617 Před 6 lety +1

      thosa eher ein Stahlstreifen der genau ( Länge X Breite des Nutquerschnitts) so breit ist, wie das Brett das stumpf anliegt. Darin ein passendes Gewinde geschnitten, und dann die Senkkopfschraube einkleben. So hält das gut.zum Schluss die Schlitze noch mit Wachs einreiben.

    Great video, many thanks for taking the time to make it. I don't see any advantage in cutting the round holes and having an insert. Unless you can tell me? Surely it is better to cut a small square hole and have the bolts just tighten up against the stock then there is less play from moving parts.

    Great idea! I may have to do this... Do you think cam bolts would come loose too easy? If not, then you'd just need a simple screw driver to adjust. Or for more ease (so you don't have to hunt for the wrench or screwdriver), maybe a quick release bolt like you'd find on a bike.

    • @thosa
      @thosa  Před 6 lety +2

      cam bolds would be a nice try... but I don't know if they're strong enough... if you're rebuilding this, don't put screw heads in the slot. They lose their grip after a while and start to turn. a sliding block would be a better solution.

      Yeah, that's a good idea. Thank you

    • @Barnagh1
      @Barnagh1 Před 6 lety +1

      thosa you could also mill stub tenons on the ends of each piece, to engage with the slots, it would keep the jig very flat.

    • @Barnagh1
      @Barnagh1 Před 6 lety +1

      thosa and use longer bolts with correspondingly deeper bores to hold them, then the nuts, washers and spacers won’t work free and get lost?

    • @thosa
      @thosa  Před 6 lety +1

      nothing gets lost. The nuts only need 2 turns to push the bolt out of the slot. An optimization would be to use a longer sliding block instead of the bolts. The wood doesn't prevent the bolts from turning for ever.

    Nice video - subbed - i have been trying to think of a way to create/use something like this to cutout an insert with rounded corners (and keep both pieces) for example a cabinet door, but the internal rounded corner is the tricky part as with this jig you just get the square inset slightly. I wondered about creating some corner inserts that fasten with t screws but not sure if the jig would be accurate enough or strong enough. I have also seen a jig where you fasten the router to a point and follow the radius. This was the best idea yet but could be tricky if in the middle of the workpiece unless you made a jig for everyone you cut. Any ideas?

      @thosa  Před 6 lety

      good question... To cutout an insert with rounded corners would be a challenge if you want this to be done in one step. I would do this in several steps with different templates. For example a template (quarter circle) with some inches straight for a better alignment. Cutout all corners and use this template or some straight pieces for the lines in between. by the way... I wouldn't make a door with a router out of one piece. The gap between door and front would be way too large. If I want this out of one solid part, I would try this with a jigsaw and make the starting cut with a multi-function tool. Please mail me if you found a better solution :-)

      @@thosa I finished this today. This was a much tougher build than I thought it would be. It says more about me and not your instruction. 1st i ordered a 3/8s keyhole router bit. I should have gotten bigger. Measuring and finding the centers on all drill holes and slots was time consuming and nerve racking for me. And I couldnt find any bolts that had heads small enough to fit in the slots.metric or imperial. So I had to grind the heads and threads down. I made a mistake that turned out to be gold. I drilled holes with drill and hole saw on all 8 ends. Only needed to do four. Each piece was 2 foot long, when I started test fitting, it was too long for me. So I cut 8 inches off each. Now I have 2 jigs. A larger and smaller. Bada bing! Just have to get more bolts. And grinding the bolt heads down made them fit like a glove. This is going to work wonderfully I believe. Thanks for posting

    • @thosa
      @thosa  Před 5 lety +2

      Sounds like a lot of fun. 😅 Having two tools of different sizes is also cool.👍 You get two for the price of... well... two... 😅👍
      That you had to grind the screw heads is another bonus point. I have the problem that the screw heads can turn in the groove over time.
      You shouldn't have to worry about that problem. 😀🖐

      no sorry. this is only an alu system profile. the whole table was made with this profiles. google for "ITEM profile" and you will find them. 😊 but I dont suggest building a fence with this. you have to measure and screw both sides to got a precise cut. a biesemeyer fence out of plywood would be a way better solution ... 👌
