  • On Oct 14, thousands of rail commuters were left stranded during the evening peak, after a power fault on parts of Singapore's MRT network. Social media posts showed what appeared to be blackouts at several stations, and some people walking on the tracks. According to train operator SMRT, the problem first started on the North-South Line between Woodlands and Jurong East stations at about 7.15pm. Services between several stations across the East-West Line were suspended from about 7.30pm. By about 8.15pm, the Circle Line was also hit, with no train service between Serangoon and Harbourfront stations.

The ridership should be lower than pre covid. Yet this problem. This supports the idea that the problem is not necessarily the ridership volume. There could be deeper engineering issue. There should be a clear engineering answer what is the cause.
