Emma did well in portraying Diana's mannerisms except on that engagement scene. She looks cunning and scary there. Also, Diana's sidelong stares and the way she kept her head down when she talks to someone, Emma could've done better. As a fan of the late Princess, I enjoyed watching The Crown because they've re- enacted the scenes that I've read in the books. Seeing the replica of dresses she wore, the places she'd been etc is just like bringing the pictures to life. Really amazing!
It feels like Emma was trying to portray how Diana was ACTUALLY feeling at the times of those scenes rather than matching exactly how she acted. I wouldn’t say she looked like a villain, more like she looked uncomfortable or sad. Like she was trying to give us a deeper insight rather than just showing us exactly what Diana tried so hard to show the world, acting happy and okay when she wasn’t. I thought she did great
But, the thing is, we don't and never will know how she really felt in those situations. She might have felt happy. I mean, she was practically glowing in the engagement interview. Also, people may feel mixed and different emotions, suffer and be happy at the same time. This kind of performance, which emphasized the pain made Diana look not only like a victim but not a very bright human being. I would have liked a more complex performance, that dealt with different feelings, emotions and thoughts that one may have, when their life changes so drastically.
Exactly I was so disappointed in the actress and the way they portrayed Diana. It didn't have any of Diana's natural zest, star power and charisma. Was so so disappointed. They made her look like a shy little mouse. They portrayed her more as a victim leaving out the rest.
I believe that Emma translated what the writer and director of the show thought of as the true Diana on screen. How much of their imagination is accurate we will never know - at the end of the day, anything said of Diana or the way she felt is only speculation. Emma was only sticking to the script handed to her but it cannot be denied that her portrayal of Diana was cringey and didn't reflect the feelings that Diana evoked in millions of people. If Diana was as manipulative and evil as she was portrayed in the show, she wouldn't have touched the hearts of millions of people across the world. She was a complex woman but her good qualities far outweighed her flaws. She's the G.O.A.T.
I don’t know why this actress is making her head tilt all the time. It feels she has some abnormality! No where princess diana has moved her neck like this 🤨
Gosh, the girl who plays Princess Diana scares the shit of me... even though her acting is getting better but still, in the second, third and the princess Diana engagement scene she keeps smirking. She looks like someone plotting munder or something.
An actress role in a fictionalized historical drama is to portray the character not accurately but in the same light and spirit as humanly as possible, and actress Emma Corrin did a stellar job at that. She earned her Emmy award deservingly so.
Emma’s acting was a bit weird. It came across as conniving, calculated and almost mean instead of awkward and shy. The slow movements like a snake. It just didn’t come across right to me
To everyone here complaining about Emma’s acting, don’t blame her, she did a great job overall. It’s not her fault that Di was more charming and charismatic, you can’t be another person. Ps: she did a great acting endeed, but I agree that some smiles and the nick twists were kinda wierd😬
I think the portrayal of Diana was missing a lot of nuance. She was just overplaying the shyness and the bashfulness. It was weird. I think they did a good job making her look like young Diana and she sounded pretty good but the body language is just so off.
Is it only me who feels Emma is acting as if she is mad. Her neck is tilted to one side and her wiered smile. Princess Diana was just flawless so graceful. Don't know why e1 is saying brilliant acting by Emma🙄🙄
I think overall she played the part extremely well, except for the engagement scene, she must have watched it a dozen times for preparation so I'm surprised she couldn't pull it off.
I also have a problem with the actress playing Diana. She has reactions that we would have now that we know the truth and the end. Diana was more polite, and if she was shocked by Charles's comments, she never showed it in public
The expressions of that actress is really weird. Diana was really sweet and her expressions were full of innocence. But the actress' smirk, weird head tilt makes her look like a psychopath..she did it in a wrong way.
You know when I originally watched this, I thought she gave a fantastic, endearing performance as Diana. Now having seen real footage, she is much harsher than Diana ever appeared in public.
2:10 🤨A bit too... exaggerated even boarder line creepy... Princess Diana was actually shy and elegant all at the same time. Perhaps a better choice of actress would have done a fraction of the trick ❣
Exactly. Like Austin Butler portrayed Elvis. Never overdid it yet captures him perfectly it was not an imitation like this is but a look into Elvis's humanity
I teared up when she hugged the boy with AIDS, that was the Diana, I will always remember! The one that reached out to children with love no matter their condition or sickness. The love she could never receive or give to Charles, she gave to world. ❤️👑
I loved Diana. She was so beautiful and Special. I miss her and wish she never met Charles. She would be alive today. She deserved someone who truly loved her. Not someone with a women on the side that he really wanted. When I see her out in the crowds and greeting people, I can only think about how sad it is she never got the love she needed. Blessings Diana ~
in every screen I see the princess is very friendly and has a sweet smile and can be calm in every situation, but the actress plays it as if she is always worried and a forced smile even like holding a grudge.
i wish they had actually used an actress that was actually as tall as the actor playing charles because that was a huge point of contention for them because he didnt like that when she wore heels and stood beside him that she was more statuesque and more visible and thats why she wore low low heels or flats when they did things together
I just want to tell everyone, from the inside of a filming and theater process, that every actor is always doing literally what did the director tell them, and play what is meant (by director) to play. Surely, actors can improvise or suggest something or share ideas, but in a frame of their exact "mission", which is always given by the director. So, the way Emma plays doesn't mean that she is a bad actress. She is, in opposite, a wonderful actress, because, if you analyse the plot and all the details, you will see clearly a point of view of "The Crown" team. That is exactly what Emma was playing, and she did it great.
Actress that played Diana smirks more evil than shy IMO. Real Diana found attention overwhelming, tv show version on the contrary looks to be enjoying it… looks weird…
The problem comes up when these side by side comparison is done. I did enjoy her acting in the show but I did feel like the direction was a bit off in the engagement scene because she looked a bit too angry. In the show she really didn’t look happy, she looked angry not anxious. Seeing the comparison I feel like the direction emphasized the discomfort too much from the beginning so she never looked happy with him but in reality she was more natural and just looked shy and sweet but not angry. She did look more at ease and in love in real life during these early days.
2:36 look at the difference in the smiles. Diana's smile was half hearted in the real version of the engagement. Like it was a downcast. I'm not sure if she was really in love with him during that interview. She almost looked depressed, I don't think her mental health struggles was a consequence of the marriage. I think they were always there.
@@CatieCass as a therapist that did not look like a shy smile. It was pure sadness. Emma Corrin did a better job acting as a shy smile. The real Diana had a brief moment where the smile completely faded into sadness.
For the scene of the engagement interview it is seen that the performance is exaggerated on purpose, I suppose that the director asked him to highlight or "exaggerate" the expressions in a way, this is used in film and television to give a certain atmosphere of discomfort or displeasure
Seen several biographies about Princess Diana and the actors portrayed her character. I don't think this actress is resemble in any way plus the actor who played Charles looks Handsome which is not actually. I love the movie Spencer. Seriously, kristen killed the role.
Expresion In the movie not same as the real life . Princess diana was smile so good and looks happy , in the movie , emma smile so bad and looks like psyco , sad woman , absolutely not share positifity
The show makes it seem worse than their real early relationship. Comparing it, they seem happier in real footage while the show makes it seem like they hated each other most of the time mainly Charles hating Diana but apparently he still visited her for tea even after they divorced. I don’t believe he’s a good man but I think he loved her once just not as much as he does that Rottweiler
it’s a role, not copying. the only way that the do the same expressions is when Stage Diana (Emma Corrin) smirks. Smirking is a thing that Diana used to do all the time. Rip Diana❤
Honestly, the actress is nt an inch of the princess, she acts like a villian whereas Diana's expression r so natural n humble. She acts like as if she has some neurological disorder looking around suspiciously.

Diana's so timid in the show but she's a lot more confident and strongly spoken in real life. I wish they'd presented her like that though Emma Corrin is good!
It looks like the actress studied Dianna's every movement and tried to copy every single one . It came off as overdone and gave a very different vibe than Dianna.

I'm sorry but no one has or probably will ever be able to show how the real Diana and Charles were like. The Charles actor sounded and acted like he was about to fall asleep all the time and looked pouty too much. The Diana character tried too hard to act like Diana and just looked silly. And she look all the time like a deer staring into head lights.
1:26 What is Emma doing? Diana had some grace and she never acted like mad. I don't know why this Emma is acting like a mentally imbalanced person?????
The actress cannot portray princess Diana's mannerisms quite right. It looks so weird on her like she's trying too hard and she looks like she was smirking but at the same time tilting her head on a weird angle. it really looks so uncomfortable and unnatural but other than that, everything's fine
The girl playing Princess Diana, isctoo unusually over active in her head movements in some scenes, n doesnt fully capture expression on face n emotions. She gives an odd experience. Its odd as if suspicious n strange eye, but not shy n bashful n blushing. Actor conveys as if Diana at young age of 19 already had a strong sense of self, that definitely was not the case for her, so actor is an unusual choice to play Diana. Make up wise, in one specific scene, her eyes are too dominant. Also does not convey Diana’s essence
The Crown dramaticized a lot about Diana/Charles.....it seems like they were less interested in portraying the truth and more interested in showing people a certain popular narrative
Sometimes I see the real Charles and Diana having a normal and happy time together where as the same event is shown in the Crown as unrealistic, scheming and what not.
Emma did well in portraying Diana's mannerisms except on that engagement scene. She looks cunning and scary there. No to me there is no feeling just overdone movements
I dislike that weird sideways smirk/smile, and the death stare she often gave.
The actress playing role of diana giving more exaggerated, psycho impressions than diana .
Why do I feel the actress is giving off a vixen villian psycho act rather than the demure shy Princess Diana....
I think if she smiled more with her teeth the same way Diana did her performance would come off less creepy
I don’t know why this actress is making her head tilt all the time. It feels she has some abnormality! No where princess diana has moved her neck like this 🤨
The Actor is too handsome for Charles
While the real sounds warm, lovely, jolly and confident, the portrayal looks creepy and psychotic..especially the scene of whatever in love means
Her psychopathic smirk got me🤣. No where near blushing Lady Diana.
Yeah. This was jarring. They turned a shy, somewhat timid smile into preening and smirking.
Emma looks just like a villain in the engagement scene
So true. Her acting was really really bad
@JACK I just think giving her the role was a bad decision.

Yes she’s over doing it

The actress cannot portray princess Diana's mannerisms quite right. It looks so weird on her like she's trying too hard and she looks like she was smirking but at the same time tilting her head on a weird angle. it really looks so uncomfortable and unnatural but other than that, everything's fine
She was so beautiful, elegant & statuesque at 5’10..🌸💗🌸
The girl playing Princess Diana, isctoo unusually over active in her head movements in some scenes, n doesnt fully capture expression on face n emotions.
"The girl" is Emma Corrin
The Crown dramaticized a lot about Diana/Charles.....it seems like they were less interested in portraying the truth and more interested in showing people a certain popular narrative
.
👍
100 % .
Exactly, thank u
EMMA is acting like a CREEPY SERIAL KILLER in some scenes unlike our beautiful charismatic Diana ❤️
Sometimes I see the real Charles and Diana having a normal and happy time together where as the same event is shown in the Crown as unrealistic, scheming and what not.
Princess Diana was way a better " actress " in being reserved about what was going on in her life :-)
Her expressions are very sharp and negative. Not resembling with Diana, not from a single angle.
This is GREAT! Thank you! 👋😁
omg I LOVE edit like that, the remake and the real footage.
Btw, it’s unbelievable how popular she was, even more than prince charles lol.
Thank you so much! 🥰
