  • Scissors are one of the main tools for working with paracord. They see a lot of use and do require some maintenance once in a while. So we take a look at how to sharpen scissors with a cheap whetstone found in almost every hardware store.

One of the best practical educational videos ever. I always question why and how this and that, and have the answer provided at a pace I can follow and in ONE lesson implement - hopefully proficiently. Now I understand how slow is fast, and fast is slow. 2 life lessons in ONE. Many thanks for this great video presentation; and lesson.

I have a hard time holding the correct angle.
What would be some useful tips to keep the angle right?
A lot of cheap kids scissors are not tight enough to cut correctly. What kind of things can you do to get the blades closer together without binding it up? If you overdo it how can you correct it?

Hi Marc, I highly recommend you purchase a pair of Wiss Brand W7T scissors at HD store. They are extremely sharp and work great for cutting everything from light paper to sheet metal. Once you use them you will never go back. (I am not a salesman). These cut paracord like butter. You won’t have to resharpen these. They cost about $14.00 and worth it.

But, if you have scissors already it’s nice to know how to sharpen them. Give a man a fish he’ll eat for a day, teach him how to fish and he can eat for a lifetime... or something like that.

Tried several times, different angles, different stones. Did not work for me. Maybe my scissors were dead… Has anyone succeed ?
Note: I’ve been sharpening knifes with stones for a few years. Never had a problem, always able to perform paper cut test….

I watched many scissor sharpening videos and, frankly, couldn't follow them. People who work with tools all the time take many things for granted, which always leaves gaps of understanding the videos. This video assumes you know nothing about the process, which is perfect.

Hello. AFAIK sharpening scissors on stones is strongly not recommended. Use only leather belt and sharpening paste. Stones works, but it damage scissors.

Also there are some simple ways to sharpen, cut small grid sandpaper or cut needle.

      Hey!
I have a strop. But for some blades I prefer stones. If you are not careful, the edge becomes more convex with strop use.

Sandpaper is basically the same thing as a stone, just less thick :). Have not tried the needle.
