And meet with the Maitre d upon boarding and provide a detailed list of all my allergies as well as foods “I can eat”. They prepare All my meals in a separate kitchen away from All food allergens to prevent cross contamination.

We cruised a few months ago on the beyond with an infinity balcony we absolutely loved it. We are balcony lovers of the traditional balcony, and found this to be a fun way to have extra space in your room to be sorted outside when you open the window and enjoy, looking at the ocean, the whole time without the railing, one thing that we did have was rough on our cruise us and many many other passengers complained about how much noise the infinity balcony made. We were trying to figure out was it the window squeaking? Was it the wind what was happening to make so much noise, we eventually went down to guest services. They sent up the engineers who put shims in the window, like they were little metal washers to help cut down the noise That absolutely worked it was about 95% better so if you’re ever in an infinity balcony and you have this ridiculous noise, squeaking cracking creaking do mention it to guest services. It looks like they know something that could be a fix for it. To our surprise at the end of the cruise they gave us $400 in future cruise credit for our trouble that we had with the balcony way to go celebrity, taking care of your guest like you should.

We sailed in December ’23 on the Ascent’s maiden voyage. We LOVED it! The ship is so gorgeous and the design so creative. We loved the beautiful venue for pickleball (Rooftop Garden) and were blown away by the fabulous solarium and the fitness center. Really, we were dazzled by the whole ship! The food was excellent and we honestly loved the quality and selection in the buffet. We had an infinite veranda cabin and really liked the roomy feel and the amazing blackout shades. The app is great as well; we loved being able to control the lighting in our cabin from our phones. We are Ascent fans!

We sailed the transatlantic in April 2024 and I fell in love with the celebrity ascent! The crew camaraderie was like family. The entertainment was the best we’ve ever seen on a cruise ship. I absolutely love the infinite veranda! It can be used in any kind of weather. If you have an open balcony and it’s really windy rainy or cold and you can’t go out you lose 4 feet of space and some sea view. But, if you have the infinite veranda with the window shut on the bad weather days, you gain extra space in your room and you have a big picture window of the sea. I love it so much I can’t wait to enjoy this ship and infinite veranda again!

I noticed when my bed was by the veranda the room felt smaller, but when the bed was toward the hallway and sofa area was by the veranda it just felt bigger. Not sure how your room arrangement was on the Beyond but that has been my experience on the Apex and Edge. So from now on, I make sure my room arrangement is with the sofa by the balcony when booking an infinite veranda. My main complaint is that you can't get a traditional balcony in Aquaclass on the Edge Series ships.

Celebrity has more specialty restaurants and less music/dance venues. Edge class ships have no forward observation lounge, card room or library. Celebrity has more adventurous entertainment and the highest level specialty restaurants focus more on French cooking and tableside presentation. Celebrity is bit more active. Decor is more consistent on the ships in the HAL range from older to newest and is consistent with Celebrity from Millennium to Solstice, but varies a great deal from the Solstice to Edge class. Celebrity has more suite-only areas. Celebrity IMO nickel and dimes more. Celebrity's crew is more international. HAL is bigger on enrichment. Celebrity tends to go to sleep later in terms of activities and music onboard the ships.
Neither one is better with food or service because that depends on the crew at the time of your sailing. Both can be variable but I get the feeling it is HAL that's more consistent these days than Celebrity. Ship age should not matter in terms of food and entertainment but may because the more experienced crews tend to get assigned to the newest ships. But that doesn't mean all of the "older" ships have inexperienced crews or food and service may not be excellent on one of them. Nor does it mean every sailing on a new ship means excellent product delivery. With HAL, I like any of the ships. With Celebrity, I only like the Millennium and Solstice ships due to my own preferences in ship content and feel. That's highly personal with any cruiser.

Interesting that you found the infinity veranda stateroom felt a bit smaller. My wife and I were just on the Celebrity Apex and one of the things we loved about the stateroom - in addition to having an incredible amount of useful storage space - was that it felt bigger than the staterooms on other ships. We would definitely sail on one of the Edge class ships because of the infinity veranda!

We sailed Beyond, Apex, and Ascent last year (as well as Summit). We LOVE the Edge class ships. I’m not sure why you were underwhelmed by Ascent. We thought she was just as good as Beyond, and the changes were all for the best. I think the biggest change for us was the addition of umbrellas all over the ship. Some of us burn in as little as 10 minutes in the sun, so this is very helpful.
We had never cruised until last April (Beyond) and I have to say that your videos, from ship reviews to tips and tricks, have been immensely helpful! We are a vegan household and recently sailed Celebrity Summit. It was ok. The buffet had a small section that had 4 options each day. Not a lot of variables, but it was fine. I would ask the pizza station staff for custom pizzas with no cheese. The main dining was….an adventure. It wasn’t great and we felt SO BAD because our waiters were really trying their best and seemed nervous. It wasn’t the waiters’ faults. The food seemed like the chefs hadn’t tasted the recipes. SOOOOO salty at times, or cold, or just…not great. We are pretty sure that some of the dining items came from the buffet’s lunch lineup. But hey, we were loving our time on the cruise regardless. I wish the food were better all in all but I’d never complain to the staff, they are trying really hard.

I've sailed the Apex and Edge and had 3 different staterooms: ocean view, infinite veranda, and obstructed view balcony (the aft portion where there appears to be giant portholes). With regard to the infinite veranda staterooms, I would say they are a smidgen smaller than a balcony or ocean view stateroom, but the difference is not massive. While I enjoyed the infinite veranda for its floor-to-ceiling window, it was harder to keep the room cool as the window absorbs a not insignificant amount of heat from outside (this was especially noticeable on a TA sailing with lots of at sea days). If you wanted to keep the window open but keep the rest of the room cooler, you had to close the "in between" doors and that definitely makes the room seem smaller than a traditional balcony or even ocean view stateroom. That said, the difference in temperature maintenance notwithstanding, I consider the infinite veranda an upgrade from an ocean view and roughly the same as a balcony cabin. I guess those who dislike the infinite veranda have specific expectations of a room with "outside space" that differ from my own.

Too much depending on specialty restaurants to deliver what used to be available in the MDRs. Even the presentation now doesn't match what used to be delivered in MDRs. The big difference is the Annex that cruisers can rent. I think it offers a golf simulator, karaoke, movies. I think it's either a 10 or 15 person minimum with prices for the rentals ranging from $250 to $375 and I think it's a minimum of 2 hours.

Gluten Free: We traveled on the Edge with our two adult daughters, one of which has celiac and needs to eat gluten-free. We are well dialed in on what she can and can't eat, cross-contamination, what works and what doesn't. We had no problem finding plenty of gluten-free options both in the main dining room and in specialty dining. The buffet had more than enough gluten-free items, foods specifically marketed as such, and the crew always asked if we had any dining preferences, or allergies. They were very accommodating, even getting or creating food off the menu for my daughter or grabbing from other dining areas. I also took the behind-the-scenes tour of the ship and got to see their specific exclusive kitchen/galley cooking and prep area for vegan and gluten-free items to cut down on cross-contamination. Ascent was the same. All in all very happy with gluten-free options and dining on Edge class ships.

While I don’t mind having the roller coasters, water parks & bumper cars it’s not something that I need. However I have one question about food in general on cruises now. I have two cruises booked on Royal & Carnival (both for their itineraries & on older ships) in the next year and a half but I have given up processed added sugar and even in everyday life at home it can be a challenge to find even savory foods without added sugar. I never really paid attention the last time I went on a cruise but I wonder what the sugar free options are or even if you can get an ingredient list so that I can try and avoid it as much as possible.

I know u weren’t asking me but for someone who just came back from Ascent, I would say that yes the entertainment is better then most cruise lines. They have professional breakdancers, dancers, singers, magicians and comedians. I know we didn’t pick the most expensive room but ours was pretty nice we chose the balcony room which provided us an inside balcony with two chairs and pillows as well as 2 queen beds , a couch bed with a mattress and electric blinds which you can open and close and also a big window connected to that system so you could enjoy the nice sun and close it if it gets to hot. The drinks were definitely the move on this ship. They also had different light modes in the room which were good for different times of the day and provided a different vibe. The staff and cleaning people are always so polite and greet you whenever you walk by. The shower was much nicer than most cruises showers I’ve seen in the past. The bathroom was as well. The food definitely was not good at the cafe on deck 14 ❌which was had me disappointed. Although they did have amazing sorbet which had me keep on going back. I would not recommend going to fine cuts steakhouse which should be named unfine cuts. Raw 51 sushi was very affordable and cost about $10 per roll. The 3rd floor restaurant had amazing food as well including fish , steak , ribs and other great seafood. Which I think is an $18 fee but you can get most of the food for free and as much as u want of it with that one time fee. The lobster tail was $18 extra but it was very good. My family and I including the kids enjoyed it very much. If you enjoy gambling they have a very nice casino inside the ship. They also have the designer stores that everyone is dying for. I forgot to mention they treat you very well whenever you get off the ship and on the ship with cold rags and ice cold cucumber, grapefruit, lime water. They have bigger rooms as well the size of a living room. And if you would like going the cheaper route they have rooms with no window which might be a bit smaller. I hope this helped or answered any questions or concerns you would’ve had thanks.

Different layouts give a different feel even though it's the same square footage and same type of room. I prefer rooms with the bed away from the balcony as opposed to the rooms with the bed next to the balcony door. It just feels different and more enjoyable to me.

Thanks Ilana for another interesting video. We were on the Edge over a year ago & had dinner at Eden. It was a great a night with great food & service. We are booked on the Beyond next month & eating one night in the Steakhouse. A friend recommended it very highly. Also ate at the rooftop grill that was also a great night.
Enjoy the rest of your Ilana & happy cruising.

Does the veranda feel like a balcony or just inside cabin with a window?

I find the infinite balcony more favourable, it increases cabin space and I find the traditional balcony I se seldomly because of the heat. Now I can sit in front and enjoy the view without my makeup running.

I’m gluten free (Celiac disease) and sailed on the Celebrity Apex August 2023 and will be on the Ascent in October 2024. I have to say that by the end of my cruise I was very bored with the gluten free food and desert choices at the restaurants and the buffet. The only dessert I was ever offered in the 4 restaurants was crème brûlée. They never had any other desserts that were gluten free in the restaurants and the ones at the buffet were dry and tasteless. They had just one type of gluten free bread on the Apex and towards the end of the cruise it started to look like it had a ring of white mold around the edges no matter where I was offered this bread. I brought this up several times to the staff, however they kept assuring me that it was ok. Needless to say I stopped eating it after about day 6. I’m hoping the Ascent will have more choices and better desserts.

Last summer, my husband and I cruised on Celebrity Edge and we really loved it! The food in the buffet and all of the restaurants we ate at were amazing. My only complaint about that ship was that I had a hard time getting vegan desserts. In the buffet area there is an ice cream place to eat, and they did have sorbet which I can eat and it was pretty good. In the main buffet there we no vegan desserts. This was sad for me because my husband loved the buffet. Also, I went to the coffee shop a couple of times for dessert and I had to pre-order a vegan dessert each time and when I got the dessert it was some kind of a chocolate mousse that was just OK. This was my only complaint about the Celebrity Edge as we really did enjoy it.

I have sailed on three Celebrity Edge class ships - Edge, Apex and Beyond. I really like the infinite veranda but I have one huge hangup. On two of these cruises the veranda window got so dirty from sea water our view was awful. I was even tempted to try cleaning the window with a towel, but figured that gesture would not be welcomed. Just wondering why celebrity doesn’t address this.. Heck, give the cabin stewards squeegees!

We've been on Edge and Apex and thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. One in the British Isles and the other in the Mediterranean. Next up is Silhouette, which will be a different experience as a Solstice class ship, for a 13 night Scandanavia cruise. But just last week I booked the Ascent for a Caribbean cruise, simply for the enjoyment of shipboard life. In all situations we've enjoyed the Retreat. Even though you're not in that situation, if you could request a little time to add to your video and social media content, it would be appreciated. (they couldn't turn you down! Too charming)

I do like celebrity a lot and I have not been on them lately, but I don’t think I’d like my bed right by the veranda. I would prefer to have a couch there instead you know how they flip-flop every other cabin. Because I don’t normally even like my bed next to the balcony if I can help it and sometimes I can’t. The ship does look very beautiful though.

Did you notice that the bed was exceptionally hard? We were amongst the first to sail on Ascent on one of the preview cruises in November. I could not believe how hard the bed was. When I asked my room steward for a bed topper, she told us it was included (we were in Aqua Class)! A month later I sailed for a week on Beyond in a standard balcony cabin and the bed was perfect so perhaps it was because the mattress was literally brand new on Ascent. Aside from that, I really loved all the umbrellas at the pool deck on Ascent. I missed them a month later when I found Beyond did not have them. Other than the beds and the umbrellas, I couldn't find any other differences. Now, differences between Apex and Beyond/Ascent were really noticeable!

Shade is very important to us. Glad to hear that there were a lot of umbrellas on the pool deck on the Ascent. Sailing on the Beyond in a few weeks. Hope they got some umbrellas! The Solstice class ships have a lot of lounge chairs in the shade. Wonder why Celebrity would have so many lounge chairs in the sun on the Edge class ships. Skin cancer is a real issue.

I’ve been on the Edge twice and Apex and have had both Infinite veranda and true balcony in suite class. Personal preference is the real balcony. I wish the Edge class had more real balconies for non-suite customers. I believe there are some sunset verandas in the aft that aren’t suite cabins.

I love your videos. I have been on one of Celebrities older ships before, and I liked the convenience of any time dining in the main dining room, and the night shows did not require pre-booking in advance like Royal Carribean. My question is, is this the same on Ascent ship as well? How does it work when there are four main dining rooms? Do you have to pre-book them in advance, or do you just go into one of them as you please?

We love your channel, Ilana 😊 My guy and I been following since we booked our very first cruise many months ago - which will finally be happening next month when we also set sail on the Ascent! We do have a couple questions that we think you could help us with if you can. We're thinking about renting a cabana on one of our sea days (my bday falls on one during our cruise lol). We are going with 2 other couples so we'll need one for 6 of us in total. How much would that go for in CAD? What's included? Would it need to be be booked in advance, like now? (We have a month before we leave.) Last question is we have a Sunset Veranda balcony cabin & I was wondering about the lighting around the mirrors. Do I need to bring my own makeup mirror with built-in light or is what they have on the ship good enough without it in your experience? Thanks so much!
