I've never seen a defense attorney be so unprepared when questioning flipping through all those pages on a legal pad. That bump on his head must have been a hard hit.

I've watched a few cases now and why is it that prosecutions lawyers seem on point and good at their questioning yet defence lawyers seem more ponderous. I don't know whether they feel why bother the evidence is stacked against the client anyway, but even so "everyone" is entitled to a legal defence, and although thankfully I won't be up on a murder charge, I would like to feel my lawyer is at least fighting my corner.

A reasonable observer can feel the high regard lawyers , plaintiffs , defendant have for the court decorum.
In fact , this Judge politely reminded people to observe ; no facial expressions or rolling of the eyes to show disdain !
      To show
more respect , witnesses should be wearing a Dress Shirt and tie. The professionals did.
Given today's culture , the court is fortunate that witnesses wore dress shirts with open collar.

It’s the family’s business.. not the families business. The family owns the business so ‘s shows ownership .. just like this// it’s (this time ‘s is short for it is) the defendant’s family. Who’s family ? Her family. Shows ownership though you can’t own a family it shows that the family of whom we speak is the family that belongs to the defendant or that the defendant belongs to that family. So.. it’s the defendant’s family - not - the defendants family (which would mean there were two or more defendants And who is the family ?? Doesn’t make sense that way, just like - the families business doesn’t make sense because families is a plural noun meaning there are two or more families and not one family who owns a business and it is their business. Ok.. just trying to help explain ‘s versus s .. the first shows possession and the second shows plural, or more than one of something.

Someone asked, why is there no DNA in this case?
The question should be, "Why is there no DNA left on a body after a corpse is left to decay for 6 weeks, wrapped in plastic and placed under a humid/wet mix of potting soil and concrete, in late Autumn?" Ummmm... that's because DNA degrades rapidly when exposed to heat and moisture for even a few weeks. There is nothing left to sample. Here, the corpse was degraded for almost two months down to bones, and those bones were cooked... with the DNA degrading completely. The murderer, a former police crime scene tech, knew that DNA would degrade under those conditions, and would therefore leave no DNA evidence, if the body were so exposed. Does that help?! --- At least the rest of the evidence was clear, from the video of Ashley's buying of potting soil and concrete, the pings of her (and the victim's) cell phone, the eyewitness testimony of Ashley wanting Taylor Wright killed, the money links, and the false testimony given to the cops during the interrogation.

Not every case is offered "a deal." From what I know, when the Prosecution is having trouble proving their case, but the defendant is guilty, a deal may be offered. In this case, the Prosecution case was so overwhelming that what SHOULD have happened was the defendant pleading guilty from the get-go. At least then, her admitting her guilt (along with her contrition) would have at least begun to heal over this tragedy. But no. Ashley McArthur is a monster. Never showed one bit of emotion during the entire trial and even afterwards, when she was sentenced to life in prison. A monster.

Pretty obvious what her initial idea was. Bury the victim deep enough that she'd be able to THEN concrete over top the body so no dogs could detect it. THEN replace the dirt with some potting soil to make it look halfway decent. And yet she failed, burying a body deep was harder than Ashley thought

    • @F_Tim1961

the concrete is to stop the grave from settling as the body decomposes. A depression in the ground can be suspicious. It won't keep the dogs away.
But where would the initial dirt go ? I presume into the lake. ?? or it was just spread all over.
The potting mix was presumably to make the grass grow faster over the grave area.

It is an attempt to stop the inevitable slump that occurs in a grave over time - if you lay soil over the top the concrete is not obvious. It was flat ground so nothing should wash out. This woman was an amateur. NJ Mafia could have shown her stuff to keep her out of the JUg. Best thing with a body is to empty out the gut cavity, shackel it in stainless steel chain using proper shackles, not iron wire, and dump it in the ocean in not too deep water so crabs and crayfish will find it. Remove all teeth and dental work first. Every time a winner.

She has documented back problems, several people have said that she has trouble lifting heavy things, she obviously needed help in Home Depot putting the bags in her cart and taking them out to her vehicle, so it surprises me that she was able to unload them at the farm, mix concrete, carry the buckets which are extremely heavy (if you've ever worked with it), and pour it over the body on her own.
