We've been to the Gold Coast a handful of times and already knew there were some epic things to do! The beaches are next level, the them parks are awesome and obviously Surfers Paradise is a real drawcard as well... but this time we were tasked with something different entirely. Just how special is the Gold Coast beyond Surfers Paradise?
In short it's legitimately bloody awesome. Like we haven't stopped looking at moving there since we left and we miss it already. The Gold Coast is a dream - the weather, the people, the food, the coffee, the things to do, the lifestyle, it's goals. - Within minutes of landing we were already at the beach in Coolangatta - it's all about the beach, surfing, amazing restaurants, and a slower pace with a down-to-earth vibe. First stop was Kool Bike Hire to cruise the coast and check out the beaches.
- Then on to Paddock Bakery which is 25 minutes down the road in Burleigh Heads, famous for their wood-fired bagels, crème brulee donuts and dippy eggs! The start of an incredible time with food and cafe experiences on this trip!
- The Dorsett Gold Coast was our home during the stay and it was modern, close to the beach, casino and shopping and with an epic pool as well.
- Tarte Beach House in Currumbin was delicious and the best coffee we had on the whole trip!
- Jellurgal Walkabout was so interesting, the more we travel the more we love feeling connected to our experiences and understanding the aboriginal connection is key.
- Burleigh Pavilion is a vibe for sure, great cocktails, seafood and views over the beach. Apparently some pretty cool gigs here too.
- If you've ever wanted to learn how to ski, wakeboard or kneeboard then GC Wake Park is the spot. Well setup so that even if you're not getting involved on the water it's still a good place to hang, listen to the music and grab some food/drink
- The Hinterland is a must! Cedar Creek Lodges caters to all sorts of different budgets as well, even down to camping if that's your thing, super family friendly with the activities on site but lots of space for adults to hang too
- Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk is another must and honestly a good time to slow down a bit, breath and take in the rainforest surroundings
- St Bernard’s Hotel to finish was a treat! Insane views, friendly staff, great food and DOGS.
So is the Gold Coast a winner even outside of Surfers? HELL YES!

I'm from Geelong but live on the GC. If you fly into Coolangatta and hiring a car stop at bilinga beach which is just over the road from the airport. Softest, white squeaky sand ever!! It's not a popular beach but I'd say it's worth stopping at.

Right close to the airport in Coolangatta you got Billinga beach which has the soft white squeaky sand. That's a beach worth seeing but not highly advertised.

Was last there in March 2020 and loved it! Was so beautiful. Flew home the night our borders closed. Was crazy at Queenstown airport and we literally had 12 passengers on what was meant to be a full flight. The remaining passengers were all transiting through Melbourne to fly elsewhere and weren’t allowed on the flight! Crazy 🥺🫣 Katie.

you two are soooo GC - I live in the Gold Coast but it aint my spiritual home. Though I can totally see you two here. 100%. Yes Paddock Creme Brulee donut is very up there. Gold Coast has some really amazing food. But its not like being an inner city urban dweller which is what I am used to. You need a car to live here - otherwise the experience can get lonely
So can we actually 😂 We've been trying to convince friends and family to move with us!
Been in Gold Coast region and surfer paradise. U missed out going to Lamington national parks. Not much to do there but way better than Tamborine national parks. From Rockhampton here.

Do you guys know that the northern Gold Coast suburb of Coomera (where Dreamworld is) has the highest population of Kiwis anywhere in Australia? ;D
On your next trip make sure to explore the waterfalls and natural pools at Springbrook and Cougal National Parks!
