After a lifetime of 32nd kits 1/72 does seem so very small to me , that was a beautiful build and it brought home just how much modern Airfix kits in this scale have improved over the years - Great work as ever
Nice build, it’s often surprising how good the 72nd scale are and I totally get the comments around eyes and hands. Enjoying your videos, it’s actually giving me some motivation / inspiration to get another model on the bench. Had a bit of a hiatus with only a couple of quick builds in the last year as I was struggling with inspiration.
It never ceases to amaze me how you can take basic kit detail and with expert eye for colour, make fantastic use of paint involving custom mixes and washes. Then we learn a few tricks cleaning things up, such as not cutting tabs too soon, and painting solvent cement on surfaces to help during cleanup. Watching an expert at work is thoroughly enjoyable too. Thank you for your continued work… can’t wait for the next project.
Once again, as always, tremendous!! My days of building 1/72 have long gone!! Really enjoyable video and can't wait for the next video. Thanks for sharing your talents and all the effort you make to do these videos. Take care.
Looks very good, the metal finnish came ot nice an corresponds well with the panel line wash! I also struggle a bit (hand-eye coordination) when it comes to 72nd scale, but since my wife won't allow me a display case outside my men cave, I'm thankfull for small scale models. ^^
The last plane I painted silver was a lightning in about 1963 with one of my sisters make brushes....not a good look. Nice job and great vidio. Still not convinced about silver paint.😩
Nicely done Greg. Some of the new Airfix seem to be superbly made now (although I haven’t made any. Yet!). Meant to start an Airfix Basset last week but somehow I opened the TSR.2 by mistake 😊
Nicely finished, Greg, it's a lovely little kit & the bear all metal livery. Whatever the kit is waiting in the wings can't wait to see it. Great channel. 👍
Nice one Greg. Cheers. Looking at this retooling, after building so many Airfix Aircraft back in the 1960s, it seems that much has improved. Good Olde Airfix. Excellent work fellah. I much prefer your new 'Introduction' by the way. Thank you for your handy hints and tips, lovely stuff.
Another gem Greg. Always impressed with the final finish you get with you paint. You are a master with the airbrush. Also, as someone who heavily weathers their aircraft, I always enjoy your understated weathering style….very neat. Someday I am going to try this.
Great job Greg , I agree with you , I struggle with that scale . Eyesight not great and arthritis in my hands ,so 1/48 would be the smallest for me now . But you have done a great job , looking forward to the next build .
Such a nice little kit! My eyes are not that good either, so I started to use magnifying glasses. Even basic 1.5x magnification relieves a lot of stress from my eyes, highly recommend.
Another thing I'd asked you once about staying motivated well guess what? You help with that my friend. Watching ur videos gets me straightened out and back on track strange I know but whatever works right? Haha
What a nice result! I agree with your thoughts on 1/72 scale, it does seem to be harder to build as we get older. That looks a good piece of work from Airfix, who do seem too be upping their game. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Bob 👍
Greg, as usual, your upload hasn't disappointed! ...Great job on this 72nd scale Tempest! ...I don't have the eyesight or patience to go at them, lol ...looking forward to your next build(whatever it may be). Take care my friend!
Excellent done, looks very good. All the best for You! ;)

Beautiful build Greg. I love the Tempest plane and that's why I built it this year too. Just on a slightly larger scale. The 1:72 scale is also not for my eyes anymore. However, like you, I often cannot resist the temptation and build a small model as well.
Beautiful build Greg. The cutouts at the tail are for rear navigation lights. It looks like Airfix planned on including them in the kit; they did the cutouts but then forgot to put the lights on the clear frame. Eduard got it right in their 1/48 offering.
Beautiful silver paint job and panel washes. I built the 1/72 FROG Tempest years ago. It was a minor mystery why Airfix never issued a Tempest. Every Hawker under the sun they did! But Tempest, no!
Lovely job Greg !!!!! i have a BF 110 Eduard Kit in 1/72 and i'm stuggling to get started on it as the old eyes get a wee tad watery after a while !! looks a lovely kit though , take care ..Shaun.
Lovely build! Not sure why Airfix shown the yellow leading edges with the silver scheme as this was used only with Dark Green/OG Day Fighter Scheme. In fact they were even removed from some in camouflage in the last stages of the war due to concerns over speed reduction.
Never one to disappoint, I too don’t normally do 72nd kits for the same reason, saying that 48 is getting to be a struggle these days as well😂. Nevertheless another great subject and build. Can’t wait for the main attraction, remain intrigued 😂.
Beautiful built. I used to build a lot in 1/72 and even 1/144 in the past, but it seems my eyes are getting too old for that. Still have the vast majority of my models. Two of them are a pair of Matchbox Tempests. The reason for the transparent fuel tank racks may be simple . I guess that the transparent part is just a fairing of the actual mechanism. The fairing is for reasons of weight reduction and economy made of blown acrylic, the same material as the canopy. They had that material in the shop anyway and they had the tools and the experience to work with it. So, why not use it ...
As i just missed drilling holes on my 1/72 A /37b Dragonfly i don't feel so bad now also nice tip about the rod in the cannon bays , enjoy your weekend my old marra . Regards Gav.
This may seem pedantic...but here goes. The Sutton harness used in British fighters is unique, easily identified, and simple to make from tape. I mention this only because, it's a great idea to make a decent appearing set of belts, and google has many photos and drawings of a proper Sutton harness. All around, good job. It's a real eye catcher!
Again a very Nice build😊. I really cant see that 1/72 schould not be for you. Being 54 myself, i just put on two pairs of reading glasses when it gets 1/72 size😋. Your Channel is such a joy to Watch. Many Greetings from Denmark.
G'day Greg, I know exactly how you feel about doing 1/72 scale aircraft; where the real planes were not so big to begin with. A 1/72 C-130 or 747 model is fine... just. Over a lifetime of modelling, one reaches an age where one's dexterity, hitherto that of the hands of a surgeon; almost overnight, become the hands of a sturgeon! 😉 Honestly, I couldn't do the admirable job you did on your tiny Tempest. Luckily, I've always preferred larger scales. A 1/24 fighter model is a fantastic opportunity to go for fine details and improved accuracy. Of course, one of the reasons your little Tempest looks so go is that you put your years of experience into the build. Your mention of a "...schoolboy mistake," says it all. When we were learning the hobby 1/72 models is about all we could afford and when we, predictably, made a hash of a build now and then, that was no great loss. One can only learn properly through one's mistakes, if you take note to change them in future builds. Thanks Greg, you brought back a lot of memories of some of the 'terrible schoolboy mistakes' I made as a kid modeller. Now, when I make a mistake... it's a catastrophe! 😃 Cheers, and all the best. Bill H.
Interesting comment about the stencils Greg. I also leave most of them off except for the very largest. I’ve always believed that if you stand on an airfield a “scale” distance away from an aircraft (ie it appears the same size to you as the kit you’re building) you won’t see any of the stencils. Some kits seem to have hundreds, most of which you’d never be able to see, madness! Love your work, best, TonyS.
That’s a tidy Tempest for sure. I’ve watched he’d tons of kit build videos, they range in standard from what I’d knock out in my teens to sublime super detailing, which leaves me feeling defeated. Yours however are the best balance I’ve seen between the two. I can aspire to improve to you’re level and learn the relatively basic you employ. I’m trying to get back into the hobby and was wondering if you can recommend a website where I an get the materials you use, without shopping around to much. Cheers Greg, I’ve subscribed and am looking forward to future builds.
I build 1/72 scale and yes It's pretty much the only one I build because of low cost and I can buy multiple kits for the price of a 1/48 scale kit. I like your build.
The clear wing tanks may simply be because that frame still had the space. And because that of course makes it easier to see how much you have left and saves the readout in the cockpit.
