Fun fact: On some occasions during the heist, the black panther's cage will be open and the panther will be missing. If you then leave the compound and go into the mountains (the one with the torture cage between the main port and compound), the panther will growl at you from the bushes.
this seems like an extremely specific scenario that you'd only find out about if you insist on exiting via Main dock.
