      I totally agree. She has lots of great advice and speaks the truth. I see channels with bird owners doing all sorts of things wrong and they have massive followings just because (like she mentioned in the video) things look cute to people who don't know about bird behavior.

    I am Marguerite and was “not really “commissioned” to paint your bird as a wedding gift but wanted the challenge! Recently Nancy mentioned that you have a CZcams channel and so I can see and follow how much further you are with educating Bogie and letting him fly free! I am amazed! I am learning a lot and will follow your journey together! Send you many happy returns!🙊

    Bogie is so beautiful. We own a Galah too. Ours is about 5 months old (Bash/Sebastian). I am just curious, what do you feed Bogie? I do a mixture of seeds, cooked beans, peas, lentils and whatnot - as well as fresh fruits and veggies, but he won’t eat anything fresh except sprouts, asparagus, hot dried peppers and basil stems. I also give him Nutri-Berries (the balls) and he loves those.

      Caged or not caged, Bogie isn't wearing a seatbelt. HEY that's an idea... SEATBELTS FOR BIRDS. ;)

    • @Burcudiyebiri
      @Burcudiyebiri Před 3 lety +3

      Flock Life yeah even if he is in the cage he will not be protected from a sudden stop. So I drive slowly when Bidik is with me in the car. Btw I saw that u recently got a bag for bogie, so you may put him in the bag and secure the seatbelt on the bag. This way the bag wont fall off and bogie will only hit the front plastic part of the bag which is softer and probably safer that the cage metals.

    Love this video. The fort thing is interesting. I have a cockatiel and he's actually really good about allowing my hands in his forts without attacking me. By the time I learned this was supposedly a bad thing he had had forts (even one in his cage) for well over a decade lol. Since he doesn't get territorial and aggressive I just let him keep his little houses.

    Charlie the Galah went everywhere with us when I was a kid in the 60's. If we went for a drive he would pace back and forth on the parcel rack looking out the rear window of dad's beetle. He spent most of the day in a tree in the front yard, would come down around dusk and get back in his large outdoor cage by himself (he had chewed holes in the roof big enough for him to get in and out)..

    I'm thinking about getting another bird. I know a whole lot (not saying I'm perfect and I know everything though) and I think I can get just about anything (that's not considered "big") and I think I want.... well actually I have no clue. I personally know I want a big bird eventually (galahs are considered big in my house btw) but it's just not in the cards for me yet. My mom wants me to think smaller. So what do you suggest? Out of all the smaller birds like conures, poicephalus, pionus, etc. what do you think is best? I don't care if they talk, I don't care about their typical temperament (as in I'm willing to work with/through anything), I do prefer a bit of a cuddler maybe, maybe one that is funny to watch messing around, maybe one that isn't the worst screamer, and honestly cost doesn't matter. I do have sa quaker and budgie by the way though, if that matters. But basically I'm willing to work with anything really. So any advice?

    • @flocklife
      @flocklife  Před 4 lety +1

      All great questions! Firstly, I would consider whether your lifestyle fits well with a big bird. Examples: are you going to school/going to college, do you have a full time job/will you eventually get a job. Do you have the means to pay for vet bills, food, toys and damages? Are you willing to have this animal for 50+ years? Bogie is cuddly at times but does bite and attack quit a bit. I really don't recommend big birds to people because I don't want to be liable for when things don't workout 😔I usually always recommend a budgie or cockatiel to someone who wants who wants a bird, but you already have those cuties! Sounds like you are familiar with birds but getting a new bird is a really personal decision! hard for my to suggest anything when I don't know you or your particular lifestyle. Conures are adorable and sweet but extremely loud. I don't have much experience with poicephalus or pionus. Hope this helps in someway!

    • @ruthlesslistener
      @ruthlesslistener Před 3 lety +3

      I think it really varies on what you want out of a pet- for me, I don't really like to be around people, want an animal that wishes to be with me 24/7, and don't care about cuddle factor or mess, so adopting my cockatiel has been a lot of fun because I'll spend all day with her working on class and work while she hangs out with me. But if you can't provide 24/7 attention and mental stimulation, you're going to have a bad time, lol XD They'll scream and destroy everything, believe me. I see my cockatiel as a little fully-grown person without hands or a common language that also just so happens to be my best friend that likes to shit everywhere and scream at the top of their lungs, so if you're not okay with that then you're not going to enjoy owning a bird
      (I should also probs mention that I've grown up with birds tho so this is a norm for me)

    • @emilyseferovich1890
      @emilyseferovich1890 Před 3 lety +1

      Birds are the most incredible, loveable, frustrating, loud, adorable, demanding, child-like, beautiful creatures that also happen to be incredibly fragile and complex (these are not dogs or cats!!!!!). If you ever get a bird, be prepared to do your research (SO SO SO IMPORTANT). One thing I think a lot of people are unprepared for is that birds are extremely unintuitive when compared to dogs and cats, so expecting to transition seamlessly from one to the other will not bode well for owner or for the bird. It's not so much that bird owners don't recommend birds, it's that we don't recommend that unprepared people get birds. If you are willing, able, and enthusiastic about dedicating a large part of your life to these wonderful creatures, there are many out there that would love to love you :)

    My galah also loves making forts and find comfy little dents on the sofa I lay on, and he will sit there like as if he is nesting (legs flexed). But he does not get angry or aggressive or territorial at all! He even gets calmer and friendlier for some reason. It is also the same way with my friends. I just had a friend over at my place and my galah was playing nesting around her and did not bite her once for all day. He is not this calm usually. I don’t know why nesting helps him with his nerves. Although I should add that if he is let to mate with u or ur hand, he gets very aggressive.

    You and your birb seem like sweet buds. But I think the _saddest_ thing you mentioned is leaving an intelligent, social creature alone 12 hours a day. It upsets me *so much* when people get dogs or birds, and then have a 40 hr work week + commute + other, and they don't have sitters or dog walkers, etc. These creatures are like _children._ PSA: *Don't get pets if you don't have the time, money, or bandwidth.* It looks like things have changed now, luckily.
